Very clever marketing tactics from Tudor. By opening up the doors to influencers like Adrian, their desirability, sales and thus market shares will go up.

What engineering. They are assembling watch parts that came straight from China. Who do you think makes the cases, hands, dials, and probably most of the movement . Don’t be fooled.

In the late 1800s, some Swiss watchmakers went to visit the watch factories in the US, where mass production with standardized parts was happening. They apparently were blown away by what they saw and couldn’t decide whether it was “real” watchmaking or not. I think an 1890 Waltham factory manager would look at Tudor’s operation and say, “Yep, good job!” 😊

ADRIAN! This was such an amazing, informative video. Really lifts the screen between the enthusiasts and the watchmaking process! You captured this and put it together so beautifully! 😱💕 I’ve got a small group of people saying “you have to stop saying Tudor has in-house movements! They’re made by Kenissi 😡😡” 🤣 and it’s always like… I mean, yes… but no! Yes it’s made by Kenissi but Kenissi is owned by Tudor! 🤣 Insane how automated it all is! I think I knew in my head it was, but sooo interesting to practically see it. Fantastic content Adrian!

Tudor is a great brand, this video just solidifies it further for me. Value is just off the charts. Quick story about sub-supplier network. That concept of Tudor owned companies sub-supplying components is common in industry. I thought my story might be interesting as a perspective on this. I own a painting shop that works on Aerospace and military jobs (not watch industry at all). I had an offer once to get bought out partially and we'd be part of a network of suppliers that would deliver finished goods to big companies like Raytheon, Northrup etc. I ultimately chose to turn it down. My main reason was specific to the company that was spearheading the whole thing. I was doing work for them already and they couldn't pay their bills, always lied about payments etc. When I asked them where all this money is coming from to buy into several companies at the same time, they couldn't answer or dodged the question. Sketch of course. However, I probably would have turned it down if the money was there. My company was just a few years old, and although some guaranteed contracts would have been great, I banked on myself knowing the potential growth was much higher not being capped by demand of just a few customers. I had a steady base of customers already so made sense to me. Turned out to be right. That company who made me the offer is 250 days behind on payments to all their suppliers, including me, and still pulling that lying crap. My business is steadily growing 10-15% per year. Guess I made the right call.

Great presentation and work, Adrian! I have a feeling that Rolex probably does the exact same thing as Tudor regarding highly automated assembly, but perhaps doing more in-house fabrication of component parts. A more physically integrated supply chain, but most likely the same sort of robotic assembly process. If that’s the case, then Tudor is the far more fairly priced of the two brands.
@KingPrawn666
@KingPrawn666 Жыл бұрын
Was just thinking the same. Assuming Rolex are doing the same thing, they are essentially mugging everyone off. No one will be upset with Tudor given the price point but it does make you question the gap between Rolex and other higher end brands.
@nxpj2flyers517
@nxpj2flyers517 11 ай бұрын
Rolex might have assembly automation, but everything is sourced and done in-house. It's not an assembly line there where parts ship in from different factories, and they're assembled in a sequential order in-house. Rolex makes the parts for their watches and then assembles them, which means they have full control over their product lines. But in order to pump out a million watches a year.. they're not building the parts by hand. So a Rolex is still a more special watch than Tudor, even if Tudor has a leg up being METAS certified, not just COSC certified.

Personally I’d go for a Pelagos over the Omega, but I will say this, I’d like to see Tudor start to limit their watch cycles down and start to add in more variety. Adrian, thanks so much for showing us how Tudor makes it watches. If I did not know you were in Switzerland, I would have thought the factory is in Japan. You asked if this changes our perception of the Tudor brand, and it definitely does! I wanted to buy a Rolex Daytona, but realized only a few customers are ever going to get them from the AD, so I bought the Tudor Panda Chronograph when it was first announced. I absolutely love wearing it, and am thrilled that it is a high quality product! I am wondering if you asked Tudor if there are any restrictions on developing designs that may compete against sister Rolex. Essentially, is Tudor free to design a watch without consulting Rolex for permission? If you did not ask, can you speculate from conversations you had while on tour at the factory? P.S. Absolutely brilliant comment you made at 0:24 : "it's a day after, 'yesterday'!" Simply brilliant!
