Barn Find Beetle! Will it run?//1961 VW BUG

We are pulling in the 1961 beetle into the shop and seeing if my Texas barn find purchase was worth it! After driving out to Texas to pick up this car it sat for the year and half. After looking it over only a handful of times we figured we could get it to run.
So stay tuned because we are going to dive deep into the bug!

I like the stock sound of pea shooter exhaust. It’s that VW chirp I love so much. It’s not a power set up for sure, but its own distinct sound.

You should be able to find the engine model number on the block right below the generator stand/oil filler, which you should be able to google to figure what exactly it is. A stock '61 engine should be 1200cc, while most 1600cc will be dual port, though from August '69-July '70 they were single port 1600cc. Regardless, can't wait to see how this Bug turns out for you guys!

If you're going the budget route, just throw a stinger on it.. it would be the cheapest route... If its been wrecked, go Baja.. Dont cut it up if it hasnt been wrecked... If my inheritance was finalized, id take it off your hands and do a high end restoration on it...

Drive it now but make sure the blinkers and head light works. Have Herbie belly fill with red tube and spray some oil Lubrican and tighten spark plug thread to the hole of the jug. number 53 racer had a collision and badly damaged front bumper and bonnet.

The electrons is weak differences of two posts force. The body metal of the Kafer is static but it will be grounded by touching the dirt outside with wire cable. Another way is use the magnet screwdriver and flick the point in distributor until it flick arc jump across. Then static is neutralized and not interfere with positive and negative charges.and

Yes down in gullet. This one gully is gas line and another meaning for gullet is shock coil touching up there is the round gully.

The clutch line is snap off and it probably is broken cable and where to plasma cut the underside that in the bottom pan have the expose the cable and make clutch into disengage and engage able. Plus there is hole pipe for cable going thru under rear seat and I think it is for heat pull open heater and also for emergency brake strands/ wire go into the hole/tube as loose not tight on the movement of cable.

Looks like a 36hp as the generator tower is cast on the crank case

Oil cooler have aged to the time of 1961 until 2023 ad tt hen the oil cooler seal hasn't leak yet. I think it is to see if the seal is soft like new. We don't know. Smelling gases and smoke from exhaust will tell that it is not rebuild. Cool flow of exhaust and very little hydrocarbon in tailpipe is great. Oil temperature gauge with copper tube from the sensor or ambient temperature sensor or laser thermometer will tell if the engine is not over heat.

The color red and pant in a 1961 Volkswagen 1500cc wagon bug that could it be compression of cylinders and rings go to very low PSI? yes, it usually does after wear it out and sound like very low volume of the 4 bangers. Why not add dual carburetors and EMPI Parts linkages.

Elvis Presley edition buggy with all terrain mud tires each 265mm width of tread and fiberglass is from 5051VW garage and vintage VW parts used parts storage in Pennsylvania. Too much work and so order from Western Wolfsburg for rear main seal and gasket kit for why kill the original where sand dune bug rode in California Arizona dunes is worth less than $5,000 dollars and original Kafer is worth almost $100,000.00 dollars worth of Beetle color replicas of Mother in Air Force that she drove her Army and white star on red bug on both side embalmed of the Army. Late Dad is retired second class Airman.

Pull simple to have the valve cover comes right off. The color is black soot thinning gum to the cylinder head, is it?

The wrench for oil strainer and bottom lid needs to have magnet install and oil is clean but check the oil and change oil for oil cooler needs 5W30 oil detergent. Wire brush get a loan of tools from a friend to check for trans axle and transmission look like it's leaking gear oil. The Channel heat flow in rocker panel will take some work on rebuild the press hard of the thick foil of steel gauge 27 - 28 atop the old pan buy the 6 foot x 8 foot sheet from professional garage building with where welder and California sent the USA steel of roll into wheel of tin sheet to Texas worker union at Volkswagen Camper with floor on wheels dealership of info by calling for a price of the new replacement.

It’s a 61 but I do believe it’s a 36hp engine. The guy I bought it from said he thinks the engine was swapped

Yes is definitely a 36hp from an earlier bug. VW ended the 36hp in 1960.

Also they are sought after motors now for people who have earlier bugs. People used to throw them in the trash because it was so easy to upgrade. Now everyone wants them for their original projects and the 36hp looks so classic and simple compared to the 40hp. I’d upgrade yours and sell the motor. Shit I’d buy it if I was near you, I have 3 of them. Haha.

Slot of oil leak from the engine. The transmission cannot leak compare to big leak. Only engine can do that leaking oil.This is not rebuild engine. There is research in the carburator and accelerator gas pump is very corrosion in most of the time but we'll check and see?

You can have the engine but the title will be hard to come by unless you have a good lawyer that a giveaway the Beetle color red and all I'd perfectly in order as original and the engine looks old and it is not a swap engine. Qualified you to get a new pink slip because it is inside the service of my axe returned technician and get Brake job is the highest priority for 1961 Beetle 1500.
