Barn Find CB750 - Small Jobs To Make It Look And Run Better! I tackle a lot of items in this video as it is a compellation of many clips I've created during the revival of this bike. Since it's not always possible to make full videos from everything I do I wanted to put all of these clips together as one single video to fill you in on other things I have been working on this whole time.
Parts from www.vintagecb750.com/
Cam chain tensioner gasket - 18-7009
Side cover rubber kit - 02-6538
Oil pressure sender - 73-0825
552 flasher

I spent my youth riding these motorcycles back in the 70s. All my buddies that had Honda 750-4 & Kawasaki Z1 900s. Its so nice to see younger people appreciating and taking interest in Motorcycles that made History and revolutionized the motorcycle world...

These old CB 750 Hondas are so well engineered and incredibly reliable. As I stated on a different video of yours I was a Honda mechanic back in the mid seventies and I built mine out of the crate during my lunch hour. Basically, the only reason why I bought it was my riding buddy’s all had new 750’s for long road trips and they didn’t want someone in the group breaking down ruining their trip… traded my 63 xlch chopper for a 850 Norton commando which was reliable enough to ride long distance in the pack, then moved up to a new 750 Honda. Best thing I ever did! Those things where bullet proof! BUT… the big sleeper of the day was the dohc 450 Honda… it was a 750 killer! I won every race embarrassing easy!

Cam chain tensioner is ALWAYS seized. Simplest check is while it's still mounted to back off the set bolt, and turn the engine BACKWARDS to put tension on the slack side. This forces the plunger out (you can monitor it with a small screwdriver sticking in the backside), and then you work it free and then turn forward to put all tension on the front side. Then you're set; you can tighten the bolt.

77-78 CB750 "F" SOHC models had a shallower included valve angle which caused excessive wear in valve guides. Pistons are also different. '77 & '78 "A" & "K" models used the old style head. Great, you're working on this right now. I'm a big SOHC 750 engine lover. The thing I didn't like about it was the slap happy cam chain (if it's mainly that?) idle sound. I don't how to make it in letters... maybe kkkrrrawww kkkrrrawww kkkrrrawww kkkrrrawww . I wonder if anyone has done any work on quieting the cam chain, or that sound? It never caused any problems when I had my 750. Maybe I'm asking too much? To me it's not a 'good sound' like a Ducati dry clutch, but perhaps others feel differently?
@BrickHouseBuilds

They are very noisy indeed
@preez77
@preez77 2 жыл бұрын
it's most likely clutch basket making that noise believe it or not. 76 and i think 75 had different clutch setups than the earlier models. I have same noise on my 76 and thought that was cam chain or primary chain. But they both checked out good. Honda had a field fix, where you would swap clutch plate with a goldwing double plate. This helps a little but not completely gone. noise goes away at slightly higher idle - 1500 and by pressing the clutch.

Good job on the gas tank. When you had the cam chain tensioner off did you notice a small (3mm) threaded hole in the back end of the cam chain tensioner? I recall finding one after I had removed the engine from the frame. I recall that I could screw in a small turn signal lens screw and it would act as an indicator to confirm the tensioner shaft moved. Saved me a lot of time later on!

Great work matey, i noticed some head fins brocken on the 750four, im pritty sure they can be welded and built up, i see Johnnysvintage motorcycles rebuilt broken fins on a Z900 Kawasaki, but i supose you would know they can be repaired. Great vlogs👍🏻

Motors made in the 70's era used better materials and lasted decades, also the engineering of the past was more competent in making motorbike engines, once the starter started immediately, today's motorbikes are more prone to damage because there are lots of computer accessories, gyroscopes and others, which useless ,, that's my opinion .. I like your vlog about motorbike repair as well as a solution on how to do a good service even without complete tools

@@BrickHouseBuilds it's meant to put pressure on the chain but you have to take the slop out of it. It's not a automatic chain tensioner. You need to pull all the tension out of one side and keep the slop on the other and lock it in with your tensioner.
