Barney Miller was the most accurate police show ever broadcast on television. As a Violent Crimes detective for many years, there were personalities and situations that matched real life. Brilliant show.

A Barney Miller channel is desperately needed in these trying times.

Just the fact Levitt could deliver such a serious and emotional monologue while dressed in drag illustrates just how brilliantly acted and written this show was. No other show has ever come close to its brilliance.

This show is frighteningly accurate about events that are happening now. It's like these writers had some sort of crystal ball.

One of the best intro jams of ANY show! Bass drums horns! Not to mention WTC in the background. RIP.

The scene with Levitt at the end is BRILLIANT. Really demonstrates why this was such a great show. The characters were PEOPLE, to be admired, but flawed and human all the same... and possessed of enough integrity to admit they were wrong. GREAT episode.

I remember watching this with my Dad , he loved this show. To see it now and realize just how well written it was, I now can understand why he liked it so.

Really enjoyed Barney Miller; and, continue to enjoy it every night. Every single actor contributed a large portion to the success of this nightly series. Out of all the actors, Barney and Wojo are the only surviving charactors. Oh and Barney's TV wife.

Love Barney Miller, Dietrich is my favorite character (his dry sense of humor and intelligence), followed by Wojo ! Sad that most characters have died .

I find a bit of predictive programming in this show all the time, usually brought on by WoJo. The show was ahead of its time in lots of ways.

Directors of this sitcom did their homework. They knew how to find the right people to do the parts.

Barney Miller was a very realistic vision of things to come and a hell of a funny show. The actors were incredibly believable and the writing impeccable. As a TV Freak I was able to watch all of these episodes each weak and the idea's were fresh. Observing them today I am amazed at the look into the future of our lives. The reality of events then are almost mirrored of today's screwy world. HOLY CRAP!!

Detrich : "Oh boy, yippe yiyo kiyay....too much??"--(5:10~5:15) **perfect deadpan delivery!!!**

This is a really great episode. All the casts was great but man the writers really gave Leavitt and Harris some strong character stuff here. Both characters got to show such different sides of themselves: The usually self absorbed Harris showing some genuine appreciation for Mr. Golden and the usually brown nosing and boy scout Leavitt being revealed as the "snitch" as well as standing up for himself and being so genuine with the guys. This is probably the moment the squad officially accepted him as one of their own. Where is characterization, writing and acting like this in today's sitcoms?

I remember as a kid watching this,Soap,Taxi,Benson,Eighth is Enough,ALL on ABC.Those were the good ole days of TV.And what that character was saying was true!!!---

I absolutely loved this damn show! I was just a "tween" when this show began? I just got finished watching AND sending the "brownie" episode to a friend! Even after Jack died, the show never faltered! Seems like it was always about the "guest supporting characters " that moved this show! 2021 and it STILL holds up!

I was just bored,and looking for old tv shows to watch,and didnt bother to read the discription,and got to the part where they brought the guy in and he start blowing up about the trilaterals,my jaw hit the floor,I couldnt believe it. Check for the episode where the Chinese detective is talking about David rockefeller.Boy,this is creepy.Great find.

One of my favorite episodes was when Wojo brought in hash muffins his girlfriend had made ! They all had one or more and got stoned. Nick came in and said “has anyone seen my legs? They’re about this long?”, Holding his arms out to show how long. My mother, who was a straight arrow, almost died laughing. She was a convert after that. We never missed another episode. I just love the serious and the humourous situations exhibited in each show. It keeps you on your toes to see and hear. Leavitt finally gets more dialogue other than yes sir and no sir. I really love all the characters especially the bad ones. Thanks utube.

One of the very few sitcoms my father watched when households had one TV and 4 networks (reruns on channels 36 & 48 from Boston). Living in NH, we only got ABC and PBS. I love the way this is a three-camera show but not performed in front of a live audience. It has that stagey quality but with the more polished and relaxed atmosphere of a single-camera production. Quite unique!

Florence Halop (Golden's wife) played a great bad-tempered character in another episode. Her insults when it came to Harris and Yemana were really priceless.

The opening and ending original music is the best ever!

this show was too good for the general public. honestly. Most people just didn't 'get it'. not only brilliantly acted, also brilliantly written and researched. a thinking persons program, more thoughtful and serious than comedic.. but the comedy/humour was also brilliantly placed and paced. just unforgettable.

🥲 I loved watching this show on reruns as a kid, I didn't get half of the jokes at the time, but I understood the sarcasm, the respect, and the bond co-workers develop. Watching it as an adult I can see just how good it was. The writing balance of comedy & serious emotion blended so well, the casting was so perfect and they all acted so well it's like they actually were that person, so genuine, I mean! ❤

Levitt had a point. It was better for him to be the informant while he still had some respect for the team in spite of how they treated him. At least he wasn't slimy Internal Affairs Scanlon always looking to take down the guys for nothing. My father was a sheriff's deputy, and nobody ever trusts IA officers to be evenhanded or fair.

I like Dietrich's attitude: He has a blase, detached, nonchalance matched with a keen, pithy wit.

Even the opening credits makes me laugh. My fav is Ron Harris at his typewriter thinking of the perfect word, phrase or sentence, and his smudge smirk, makes me laugh of loud every time I see that. RIP Ron.
