ABOUT BARNEY MILLER: Show synopsis: Captain Barney Miller is the patient and wise catalyst who must interact not only with his staff, but with the volatile mixture of malefactors and weirdos who stream through 12th Precinct headquarters. Barney's staff of detectives bring their own personalities to the chemistry: There's naive Wojehowicz, sophisticated and ambitious Harris, and Dietrich, given to arcane Freudian explanations. Barney and his crew face unpredictable adventures and frequently bizarre assignments with professional dedication and an essential sense of the absurd.

TV shows don't get any better than Barney Miller. Great writing leads to excellent performances. Barney Miller holds up nicely to contemporary TV without breaking a sweat. Seeing this reminds me of the great taste I had back then in the few TV shows that I watched then. Needing to do homework helped narrow the time I had to spend watching TV.

That used to be a law in many areas. It was (and still is) a public safety issue. Officers would overlook innocent stuff like Halloween, costume parties etc.

Storming the Capital building was "just a protest" or separating infants, toddlers, and young children from their immigrant parents was "unfortunate but necessary", making fun of the physically handicapped and attacking decorated war veterans and Gold Star families. I think their biggest issue would be that this guy was in the USMC and fought in the South Pacific. It seems they want to distance themselves from that mindset. Also, it's too bad Jack Soo & Ron Glass weren't in this episode. I wonder why.

I remember watching it when I was younger in the 70s, whenever Inspector Luger (James Gregory) was on I would just change channel. I couldn't stand that insufferable character (not the actor, he was great). Him and Ben (played by George Murdock), ruined many episodes for me lol
