Just ordered a custom PWR radiator for my Manual Mitsubishi Magna Ralliart in sable black. I am build number 476 and I just want to say I love Aussie cars. I also have a Manual FGX XR6 Turbo and am considering the PWR Radiator for that too. My XR6T has some minor clutch drag though which is causing issues when shifting at high RPM and may also need synchros now. I do all my own work where practicable and have done Oil Pump gears, valve springs and the IMS diff hat upgrade. The car has driven me nuts with the clutch drag but all I have to say is take the challenges for your cars as they are, a challenge of your skills and resolve. Don’t get disheartened and remember what you love the car for to push through the hard times. Love your work Sean

GOOD JOB.....!!! I did mine several years ago I paid 180 bucks the brand was 'SPOWER'- no leaks but 50mm core didn't stop it getting warm on extended idling..... Triton do a 'high flow' thermostat range 30% more flow - that didn't help either but mines a 5.4L maybe the setup is different..... don't get me wrong it did improve but the needle doesn't seem as steady as it used to be when pushing the car......... I dunno why...... I can suggest cleaning the thermofan couplings well and giving the pins a lick of dielectric grease..... I found mine didn't come on after the job and as usual the connectors needed a tweak..... to test it just flick on the A/C - they should always run while A/C is on......... Definitely a job worth doing because I am also told on the BA the tranny shares its cooling with the radiator internally and they are known to corrode and contaminate the tranny with coolant at around 200,000km - a tranny rebuild is 4 grand - so I just went ahead and did it - maybe the turbo has a separate tranny cooler - not sure mine and many others don't so for under 200 bucks its worth it on that front alone...!!!! www.ebay.com.au/itm/131655830081?fits=Plat_Gen%3ABA&epid=911738429&hash=item1ea74c8a41:g:fjQAAOSw3xJVf-uX

Another easy & great video Sean. OEM radiators only last for 10 years. Mine lasted 15 before I had to replace it. It's a pity PWR don't make radiators for VY V6 engines so I'll stick with stock for now. I would have flushed the engine out of any excess coolant & double checked the thermostat. Thermo fans have always been a bugger lol.

Annoying thing is the FG's have the following N/A 6cyl - 16mm core 6cyl turbo - 26mm/27mm core, which is a big boost in cooling efficiency for a big lump of iron that really can get toasty..... (26mm would be ample for an N/A), 16mm is just a joke haha ! I've put a factory Turbo radiator in my G6E personally, keeps much more consistent temps running an 82° thermostat.

I put an all aluminum rad in my Subaru and the snorkel needs some love with a small cutting wheel to make it fit because there's ribs in the way. Nice video mate! Keep in mind that if the cooling system is TOO efficent it can in and of itself cause an issue with running the car. For example if the car is running below its normal operating temperature due to a very efficent radiator it can cause fuel wash from running too rich, which can blow the engine due to things not getting the correct amount of lubrication. Just make sure that your operating temperature stays in normal range, or you might want to consider when you get a tune getting the cold operating part of the tune in the fueling tables moved back, so that it has its new operating temperature. Just something to look out for, a mate had the same issue when his thermostat was stuck open, and it wouldn't get up to temp at all, fuel wash ended up in ringland failure. All in all, thats a solid radiator option, they're fantastic build quality. The Spaghetti rod thing is a load of shit, they do have skinnier rods, but if you have a good quality tune, done by the right shop it will hold power no dramas, not saying it'll hold 500rwkw or anything, but they'll hold a decent amount of power when you put in your uprated valve springs to stop valve float, put in a uprated intercooler, as high IAT are a huge problem with these, and they make sure to tapper the boost correctly, and run it richer down low to protect those rods. Keep in mind after a tune go a thicker oil, as the oil temp will be higher and as your oil temp gets higher the oil viscosity gets lower. For example on most turbo's in a stock form i run a synthetic, full zinc 5W-40 like HPR5 from Penrite, and when they're tuned a bit i go to 10W-50 Tenths Racing from Penrite, the Zinc improves its overall protection, while the increase in viscosity means that when you are giving it the beans, the oil will keep it protected, as well as the shear free technolgy that Penrite puts into the Tenths Racing fluid. When it comes to the tuning side of things, the BA/BF manifold is pretty bad for turbo spool due to how they are made, you can upgrade your turbo manifold to a FG one, which improves spool, and then you can go to a FG turbo back exhaust off the shelf (venom is a great brand) and it'll bolt up. Another thing to keep in mind is with the faster boost you need to be careful of those rods still, as it can come in too fast. If you have any questions, feel free to reply and i'll answer what i can. Good job mate!

Do your radiator fans cycle on less often once it reaches operating temp. One thing I don't like about me falcon is how much noise the fans make when they cycle on. Thank you very much for your video. I changed my radiator today (BF Fairlane, 230 Barra V8 3V) with your help. I didn't remove the front bar. I replaced the rad with a Natrad OEM replacement and their instructions agree with you that stray voltage should be less than 50mV. Mine tested at 165mV engine running and 185mV engine off. Various forums say that below 300mV is acceptable. I'm a little worried and confused. Did that voltage reading (cheap DMM) cause the original radiator to deteriorate? Or am I fine?

@@lancecooper4646 Yeah, I took a radiator out of a customer's car to do a AC condenser once, and chunks of rust were falling out of the end tanks, so I replaced it for them.

Just a heads up, in the US FoMoCo has changed all their coolants to the yellow/gold standard instead of the orange/red type. They claim better water pump life, cooler temps and such but whatever. It may be worth checking out.

It's up to people to weigh up the price I guess. They're expensive, but there's a certain level of quality about it and it should last the distance. I suppose it depends how important the car is to you, and how long you're planning on keeping it.

@@MotoringBoxTV car is immaculate, I know the power is definitely worth it. I had a jayrad performance one in there but it split between the core and sidetanks after 3 years. As for the red coolant you'd be surprised to hear that ef/el had red coolant from factory but as more advanced green mixes came out ford were swapping them to the hybrid green as time went on.

@MotoringBoxTV
@MotoringBoxTV 3 жыл бұрын
It depends, radiators have a 10 year life so anything after that is borrowed time .. you either take the risk or replace it I guess. Realistically there's no reason to go bigger unless you've got overheating issues, or planning on driving it hard or modding it.

I have heard a few stories about them. Some of the listings looked alright, but you just never know what the product you receive is going to look like.. or how long it'll last. This is the third time I've had to dump the coolant (for different reasons) so I'd rather not do it again anytime soon!

@@MotoringBoxTV They're just the work of the devil. The one I tried instantly started leaking at the top tank seams.. there's so much more to them I would've given them credit for otherwise, the cheapness isn't worth that inevitable faff.

@@MotoringBoxTV Ebay stuff is decent if you know what to look for. In general, OEM quality replacements are always the go. You've done well with this XR6 Turbo, and you've done your due dilligence. Props to you mate.

@@MattExzy If its the crimped ones like im thinking they are, stay away, anything that is crimped metal to plastic is sealed with a pressure seated o-ring type thing, and generally shipping etc can make that come loose, and by the time you have to do the work to fix it, or get someone to fix it, it is immediately not worth the hassle. PWR is a fantastic brand for the coin, but for cheaper a locally sourced OEM option is the best way to go, but in general, only buy once, and only get quality, and never worry again. When major components are done, then you only have to care about your basic servicing.
