Just a couple of quick points. Firstly, he clipped into the knot. If the knot was put there to isolate a damaged part of the rope then this could be potentially dangerous. Personally I would never clip into a knot that I hadn't tied myself. It would've been better for him to tie his own alpine butterfly below the knot he is passing and clip into that instead. Secondly, in many of this guys vids he lets his ASAP get as low as his waist when he is ascending. By letting this happen he is increasing his fall factor unnecessarily. It was drilled into me to always keep your ASAP or whatever back up you are using above shoulder level. I'm not saying the guy doesn't know what he's doing, but I was taught slightly different.

Thank you buddy for this video, I have been in the Rope Access for just a few months getting use to it and I learned from an Irata lvl 1 in New Zelanad and I never learned using a cowstail straight to the alpine butterfly and it seems so efficient in time. I appreciate this material to get better and more efficient in my day by day working life . Cheers mate!

Be careful if anyone is still reading this. If a rope has damage you might find the damaged section has been looped out with a butterfly hitch -- don't clip that as you are clipping a damaged section which is not safe. If you look closely he had 2 knots with an inner loop and outer loop, clip the inner one (undamaged) or tie another to clip into. This training looks very clear. Seems like a good training centre/course!

Did your petzl chest acender come with the black fabric and the D-Ring? And another question if so, im assuming you fed the yellow fabric on your harnass thru it so it became a new chest D-Ring for that and your safety. is that correct? @tomtom4405
@tomtom4405 3 жыл бұрын
I agree. Although the instruction was excellent and this is how people do in real life, when I did my first IRATA exam (L1 about 25 years ago) the teaching was that a chest/croll ascender or hand ascender only counted as 1/2 an attachment point each and we always had to have 2 points. So climbing above a knot or rope to rope we'd tie an butterfly loop below us and clip that before taking off an ascender or we'd only have attachment of 1.5 (1 for the shunt/ASAP and 0.5 for a single ascender while one was being moved) and at that time it would have failed exam. maybe it's different now?

I was taught that the hand ascender and the chest acender are meant to work in tandem with one another, and should only be considered a 1/2 point of contact when used by themselves. When you passed the first knot, aren't you suspended on 1-1/2 points of contact for a moment when you removed your hand ascender and put it above the knot, and also when you removed the cowstail from the hand ascender and clipped into the knot?

Hi. The correct way to isolate damage in ropes is to tie 2 alpines. So any damage is isolated in the End alpine. So it is fine to clip into the none damaged knot. Why change into descent when you are ascending? If an ascender is clipped to the rope and statically loaded then it does not need a cow tail attached. Please read the heading of these videos. There are loads of ways of doing all of these manoeuvres if you have been taught a different way if doesn't make it wrong. Happy working. Access techniques.
