Hi Cameron, valid point to raise - I just wonder, would Petzl advocate a technique for a counterbalance that could / would foreseeably be used on a “live” set of ropes if they felt there was a risk of the toothed device damaging the rope? The point Ally raised about not wanting to use a piece of kit that most techs won’t have on the job is valid. Given that a toothed ascender confirming to EN567 will not damage a compatible rope below 4kN, we’re safe to re-anchor using it. Good comment though and good to have constructive debate.

I was wondering the same thing, but hadn't seen Ally's comment yet.

Hi Alex, SPRAT shouldn't have an issue with two person loads on a hand ascender as one of the techniques Petzl recommend for lifting a casualty out of a Croll is a counterbalance using a hand ascender as an anchor, this places a two person load on the ascender. Hopefully this helps.

The counter balance is not a primary point of connection though, right? It is a temporary attachment to transfer someone that is already connected to 2 anchors.

I know it is kinda randomly asking but do anyone know a good place to watch newly released tv shows online ?

I agree wirh your logic but i wonder if it would simply be better to use your dock or a red (locking secondary back up devices)

Can you do that for Sprat, two person on a tooth device rescue.

Can you use laces from your work boots as a substitute for cord if you don’t have any on site?

dropping a boot is super bad karma.

So, are you coming down with the casualty, on the hope held by the hand ascender?

Right?? Two person load on a single hand ascender blew my mind. I figured he'd just isolate the knots in a big alpine and go on.

Is it possible when you get down to the knot on the working line that you clip an extra backup ontop the descender, then clip an extra descender to where you have backup, and continue descender from there... instead of using a toothed ascender as an anchor point. Then when you reach the 2nd knot (where the former backup has been, and the descender is now), you can switch over again? Also, can you also use a non-toothed camming device (ie. Camp Goblin, Petzl Rescucender, Beal Monitor, etc.) as an anchor point in lieu of the hand ascender?

If I understand correctly the method you describe above will work if the knots are at different heights or you offset the knots yourself buy there is more issues with rope stretch. A device like the Rescucender would be ideal, the only reason I don't use it is because the people I train will not have one available to them at work.

@@independentropes4922 Great answer, I have, and use, a Rescucender for this purpose. Thank you for the clarification, Jim.
