Lisa Hedley commissioned Three Philosophies in 2005. This work consists of three movements:
1. "Essence" for contrabass flute ( • contrabass flute, "Ess... )
2. "Insight" for bass flute
3. "Compassion" for alto flute ( • alto flute, "Compassio... )

I spent about 2h yesterday searching for bass flute performances on youtube, and this is by far the most beautiful one. Congratulations to Catherine McMichael for her piece and also to Lisa Hedley for her solo. Inspiring stuff! :)

Loved this had never heard a bass flute, your playing is beautiful. I have started clarinet but would rather play the bass flute now 😁

I'm not a fan of the flute as find it too high pitched for my liking but the bass flute sounds beautiful.

So glad you liked the piece! For mics I used the Pro 35x by audio-technica (cardioid condenser). Each flute had its own mic, which plugged into my mixer board.

Lisa Hedley It's really a Tenor Flute, & yes the 3'rd octave is the easiest to do w/ lots of practice. Fun fact playing flute repritore on a C Tenor flute (Sounding down an octave) takes practice. A Low B foot joint for the C Tenor flute is now available by Yamaha & will extend the range downwards.

From the thumbnail I thought this was Erin Hannigan. (Dallas Symphony principal oboe) I thought "wow I guess she plays flute as well as oboe or something.
