I once went to a guy's house and he had like 23 guitars. I told him I only had 8. He said, "Thats a good start."

Recently sold 4 of my 8 or 9 guitars/basses. Best thing I've ever done. Really trimmed the fat. I'm down to my Fender Acoustic, P-Bass, Baja Tele and Gibson Melody Maker.

As soon as he mentioned the fretless Goya Ripper I googled "Goya Ripper," and what do you know, the first result was this same dude posting about this bass on Talkbass. Same house in the photos. Kinda funny.

Hey Dave. Love your work. I'm a 64 year old bassist still doin it. Got an older Korean made Dean that I'm about to put a Mighty Mite fretless neck on, just because I can and thats what I play. Enjoyed watching you do it to that Fender Squire. Gave me a little insight. I'll have to send you a picture when I'm done. Thanks.

Mind-boggling collection!! What you might expect if you walked into some major rock star bass player's house....but for a private collection?? Incredible!! The SBT alone is a collector's dream! Where in heaven's name did this guy find all of this stuff. I thought I was pretty good at finding deals and rare basses. HA!! This gentleman has me beat by light years!!

Hey Dave, I finally got down the list of videos to this one. I see your friend has aTraynor Speaker Stack. I went looking through my stuff and sure enough I have an Original Traynor YBA-1 Bass Master head in my basement music room! Just the head, no cabinet. Gave it away years ago to a relative, but I still have the amp! Made in Toronto just like you my friend.

Agreed. Plus, imagine what a nice collection it would be if that guy had done your way instead. All that money but only a dozen absolute killer instruments and a couple of amps. Bet he got ten grand into guitar stands and straps alone, but 100+ basses below 1k. A whole lot of dusting for a heap of semi inspiring dust collectors. Now thats a lesson for some of us. Maybe.

I have 11 (fretted and fretless Ernie Ball Music Man Sterlings, one a 4 H and one a 4 HS, fretted and fretless Warmoth Jazz bodies with EMG GZR P pickups and Japanese Fender Jazz Bass special necks, fretted and fretless pre-Fender Tacoma Thunderchiefs, a long scale and a short scale Lakland Hollowbody Gibson EB-3L slot head, a Warmoth Jazz with Ric 4001 pickups and electronics, and a German Warwick Thumb BO) and 3 amps (a G-K MB210-II, an Ampeg PF-50T/115HE, and a PJB Briefcase), use them all regularly, and I'm not a collector or a professional musician. Different instruments/amplifiers make different sounds and are suited to different uses. This guy's collection has a lot of redundancy, but it's not completely unreasonable. You should see some guitar players' collections.

wow that was a great video. looks like he did not have ny 60's era rarities like the violin headstock ampeg or any eb3's, or those clear see thru basses that were made of glass,can't remember the brand. . there are so many basses i remember from my youth. i think i did see a gibson ripper bass in there. thanks for the video it brought back a lot of memories. Peace!.

And secondly, I know Ray Ayotte personally, and I am going to ask him what he will charge to build me a new version of that phenomenal drum set!

I'm convinced the bass with the natural finish on the left in 12:03 is a Peavey T-40. I have one from '79, and I gotta say, they are amazing, and under rated (although they're pretty heavy too) If you ever see one, you should definitely pick it up :)
@TheRozeProductions9 жыл бұрын
I owned an Ampeg SBT in 1970 through '73. It was 120 watts (not 100 as stated). The full rig was two cabinets and the preamp head. On the road the power amp (mounted in the speaker cab) would fail every six months or so, and I blew out both Altec 421As over that time period. It had the same controls as the original SVT (which would come out the following year). I did like the tone of that amp. I also owned a Sunn 200S and cab at that time. They were two different animals, but I loved them both.

While this is a nice collection, I cherish my three bass well enough. I have a early 80's Fender Jazz that my dad gave me. I have a old late 60's Hoffner Violin that was given to me by an uncle who actually got it in the 60's. And I got myself a Rickenbacker as a graduation gift from university in the early 90's. I play them and I take good care of them.

This is an incredible collection. The only thing I find odd is that I didn't see a single 5 or 6-string in the entire room. I know they're not to everyone's tastes, but I'd think that surely such a prolific collector would at least have acquired one in their time. Thanks for showing us anyway Dave.

OPPPS!.. spoke to soon you played the Ric.... Have you ever tried a 4003?.. I love mine a 2011 in Midnight Blue... the pick ups have adjustable pole pieces so you can balance the volume on each string & also the necks have been redesigned & feels more like a P-Bass... & the truss rods are a lot easier to adjust
