I think they nailed it in the beginning. He is a handyman. Not a licensed plumber or a carpenter. I'm not surprised she was disappointed after trying to do this on the cheap. If you are going to use a handyman, get a list of references for similar work.

I'm in a similar situation right now. An incorrect pipe was installed not to code in my main bathroom by a licensed contractor and now he doesn't want to take responsibility for the water damage to my family room below the bathroom. This guy was recommended by my realtor at that! UGH!

I do handyman type work. Being called a handyman automatically gets you profiled into seeming like your character and work would be on this guys level. With that said I would lose every dollar I planned to make and go in the hole before I could walk out of that poor lady's house. Alot of guys see money and have a hard time admitting what work they're capable of and what they're not. That quick dollar attached to shitty work will get you the reputation you deserve. It will cost alot more then he ever planned to make on this job down the road. Also people need to realize cheap work gets you poor quality. People will expect the best product but get the guy who will work for a 12 pack and a bag of roll ups. It doesn't equate.

Douglas seems like a real nice guy and obviously he and the judge have a good working relationship. But something I always wonder…..on Judge Judy, for example, the bailiff seems to almost stand at attention, ready to intervene between the 2 parties, if necessary. In contrast, Douglas seems so relaxed, leaning on the side of the bench, laughing, very attune to the case. Just wondering if there is some sort of protocol usually.
