Excellent series Roger and the Bathroom looks first class. I reiterate other comments made that i wished i could get Skill Builder to do my loft conversion in Staffordshire as your level of detail is fantastic. By the way congratulations to your team, including your cameraman who has to film all the goings on over a period of several weeks or so whilst listening to Rogers world.

Hi. Good videos. I first watched one of your videos where you used a frame fixture that gets hidden ,for mounting the toilet. All that hidden fixtures in the wall with access to clean really puts the price up but looking at the lovely results is really helpful. Well done. It's the small poxy problems that your videos are good at clearing up . Well done. Regards Don Codman

Excellent video Roger. For Info on the space shuttle, there were 2 o rings at every segment of the Solid rocket boosters. They had already found the inner o ring gone on previous missions and only the outer had saved it. Unfortunately for the crew on the mission you mentioned both failed...Very sad. And the whole school class were there to witness it...
@SkillBuilder
@SkillBuilder 5 жыл бұрын
Arcade Dad I knew somebody would pick up on that statement so I thought I had better do some reading. It was, as you say 2 'o' rings not one but it was worse than that because they knew they were not good for the cold weather and an engineer advised on delaying the flight. The leak actually sealed itself before they took off which was in the design but side winds shook the sealing element out. There is a whole book on it and, like so many things, it could have been avoided if people had taken the warnings seriously. For the record the spacecraft was The Challenger.
@neilhuband995
@neilhuband995 3 жыл бұрын
It was even worse than an engineer just advising against it, there were massive arguments happening behind the scenes as engineers tried their best to stop this happening. But we all know the outcome unfortunately, they were overruled by some wanker in management who was intent on keeping to schedules and deadlines...

@SkillBuilder
@SkillBuilder 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for those kind words. In the U.K you can put in a socket if it is more than 3 metres from the bath or shower. As the bathroom is only 3 metres long that is tricky. I am not sure the men in suits have fully embraced RCDs. They still don't accept them as a means of protection on building sites so we have to use 110volts which is a complete pain.

Enjoying these videos Roger. I’ve recently changed two wastes where the internal threads had corroded over the years making the whole thing come loose and leak. Silicone on the top and bottom stops it leaking and also keeps the whole thing tight should the threads fail. I agree tho it’s a pain to take apart.

Excellent series of domestic works - I would have loved to see how the glass was fitted for the shower screen & the effect it has when being used to keep the water in one place & not flood all over the floor. Looks as though there is a quarter inch gap between the floor & the glass screen on completion. When siliconed in place it always goes mouldy - So a free standing glass caught my interest & how well it works.

Two O-rings weigh twice as much as one, on a vehicle that costs $60,000 per kilo to launch. The problem was the ring experienced conditions it wasn't designed to encounter; a better analogy would be using plasterboard backing behind shower tiles. Two boards isn't going to fix a leak problem, you need better material... Beautiful bathroom though!

Great video. Some first class trade skills here. I was touched by your comment on the “O” rings it was a terribly tragedy back in ‘86’ When the O rings failed due to them becoming hardened by the low temperatures. Maybe more O rings could have helped but I think they should have delayed the launch until the temperatures were up to the correct level. Your illustration made the point very well that doubling up makes for a more reliable result.

Excellent craftsmanship! Roger is clearly very experienced, I hope to find a plumber like him when I need to renovate. However as an architectural designer I think the bathroom doesn't look aesthetically pleasing. The colour scheme doesn't look good and the tiles texture and sizes don't work well together. The curved bathtub doesn't look good with the boxy shower. But this is the designer's problem, not the plumber.
