In this update on the AMT Batwing I show how to airbrush paint the weathering on the wings of the model. Also a look at some details I added to match the original filming miniature.

Yes the close up filming model had all the markings and they are actually pretty accurate, its marking you see on real planes and fighter jets ect... I did alot of research and watched the movie and paused it to make sure decals location were accurate to what the instructions showed and they were pretty spot on.

That shading and paneling really makes the model pop out. It's a nice shape. They have a variant of this in the Batman animated series (1992-1995) that's a bit less round and sharper like a switchblade/knife. This Batwing is smoother, less likely to slice you.

Ah, you've inspired me. I ordered this kit. While I won't be lighting mine, I look forward to building it and the panel weathering should be fun. Weathering is my favorite part of model building.

Hey Boyd you should have used Warm White for the Wing Lights like it looked on the Filming Model and used Orange SMD's for the Gun Firing I've learned that orange color give off a more real look for guns firing or Fighter Jet Engines.

Odd that those decals for the markings were included in the kit if they weren't actually on the filming miniature. I wonder if the miniature was repainted at some later time and that's why they're not visible now.

Boyd, I just love your videos! I had a question, I'm work on the 89 Batmobile and was wonder on what lighting kit you recommend. Again, I love your videos, it brings back memories of working on model kits with my dad.

I'm not sure if there is a specific lighting kit for the '89 batmobile. There is one for the '66 version from Tenacontrols. I did my own lighting on mine. I'm going to show it along with the batwing when I finish it so I'll try to explain the lighting on the batmobile then.

Mount it on the wall like the B36 and put the moon behind it like the in the film

What's the resistor value you usually put in your lighting rigs? Absolutely love your projects and they inspired me to take mine to the next level.

Mostly a 1/4 watt 470 ohm resister. Those work for 90% of all LED's and allow them to operate safely between 9-12 volts dc. The SMD's I use mostly come pre wired with the correct resister for 9-12 volts dc as well.

Excellent build Boyd! I was thinking of building this next on my bench and I have been looking for some references but haven't been able to find good sources. Where did you get your reference photos of the studio model? Thanks Boyd and keep up the good work!

@@TrekWorks Worked great! Got more research material. Also, I really want to light this but I have never lit a model and was wondering where do you go to get your supplies. I have taken notes on the size and types of smds / leds that you used but is there anything else that I will need. I am totally in the dark when lighting models...just FYI. Thanks Boyd!

Boyd i have a model on a Custom Display Base i made from a Round Shadow Box Picture Frame you could use that if you like to get some idea's for displaying your Batwing or other Plain if you'd like to see it let me know and i'll post some picture on The Model Shop Facebook page !
