I can remember traveling from Kent up to the Victoria train station on the train and marveling at this iconic building back in the 70s. I'm in my 50s now and live in New Zealand. This building is an icon and should be kept.

Yeah say goodbye to that, the city sold the land to Chines condo developers, the new concept looks horrible they gonna turn the area into some neo liberal paradise with cheep condos everywhere, u can't even see the power station anymore.

They used to build electricity generating stations very differently many years ago. The British made Battersea Power Station look like a work of art. Power stations built in more recent years are completely utilitarian with nothing fancy or artistic in their appearance.

As an American, I'm coming to understand the Battersea Power Station is a London icon, something expected and familiar in your skyline. However......does anybody else see the image of the building as ominous? To me, there's something eerie and intimidating about those four chimneys. Perhaps because the building is so huge, and the chimneys incredibly tall. Or perhaps it's the peculiar intensity of the afternoon sun on.Pink Floyd's album cover.....Do any of you English folks agree..

When they say "became inefficent" did they mean that the Turbines wore out and leaked steam?? Or was coal an inefficent fuel?
@buckmclean83913 жыл бұрын
It is most often accurate to say that it is less efficient than newer designs. Although some efficiency is lost over time to things like plugged or scaled boiler tubes, it is actually just less efficient by comparison.

What a ironic building, Soon be no coal fired power stations left then what?
