Heya Stewart....just thought I'd let you know about some good news on my BOFA front. I had been following several complete boxed sets on Ebay, but the prices were averaging about $300-$400 so I just couldn't swing that much. However, I also found a fellow in the U.K. who was selling just the rulebook from the box for $30. So I grabbed that immediately, figured the book was most important part of the box as far as being able to play the game. And there are so many great manufacturers of 10mm fantasy minis. and terrain, won't be hard getting some armies together!

That’s awesome, they come up so rarely, I still find it strange that there’s not a pdf of one knocking around the internet. You’re totally right about alternative miniatures, so many alternatives out there to play the game.

@@MiniatureRealms Yeah, I'm surprised about the absence of a PDF as well. Oh, I'm also getting caught up on your last several ES Waterloo videos. The Prussian stuff is looking fantastic! Your work with the Contrasts keeps getting better and better.

It’s a nice palette cleanser from Naps! Good, bright paint jobs! I’m into 10mm fantasy too. I’m currently working on building towards eventually re-fighting the battle of the monastery of Maisontaal from the 1986 citadel journal. It was a three way battle between the Skaven, Undead and Bretonnians. Two armies down and one to go. I’m working on terrain and rules next though, before I start the last and most difficult army - bretonnians! Very interested in seeing how your fantasy project goes.

That sounds like an awesome project, I must admit the pull towards doing old hammer in this scale is there for me too. What miniatures have you been using for your project?

@@MiniatureRealms mixture of old GW Warmaster and the more modern Forest Dragon range (bought from the ‘printing in detail’ and ‘excellent miniatures’ web shops).

Very cool, great to see you delving into this boxed set and getting some of them painted up! I've had my eye on several sealed copies of this set on Ebay, but it's going on average for about $300-$400. It's going to be hard justifying paying that much for it. But it's such a great, iconic battle in the perfect scale! Also, I had never heard of Toshach Miniatures before. Their 10mm castles look great for fantasy!

Cheers Mike. It’s certainly super expensive, I’ve been very lucky to get hold of my set, look out for a competition to win a set of the rules and miniatures coming later in April.

Oh yes the hype is real. Defos inspired me to get some of the cobblestone stuff for the channel. Very excited to get my order in! That helms deep looks incredible man. Also loving the minis ofc

@@MiniatureRealms I'm having real trouble deciding which army to get. Do you know of any elven 10mm stuff at all? I know there's some warmaster stuff but not sure if that fits the lotr theme.

Have you looked at the Pendraken range, they have 10-12mm High and Wood elves?

Looks great. I'm still annoyed that I sold my box off for a pittance years ago. I still kept all my Warmaster stuff though.

I’ve done that and regretted it many times with models, I have a feeling this might spur on a Warmaster project in the future too.

@@MiniatureRealms I dropped out of the hobby for a goodly while like many of us have, but seem to have spent the last few years buying it all back at 5 times what I sold it for. Apparently my hobby-clock is set to the turn of the millennium because it all seems to be Warmaster, Warhammer (6th edition), 40k (3rd edition) and BFG on the sci-fi and fantasy front.

Haha yes been there myself, I didn’t game much for most of the 2000s, and I did spend a lot replacing things I once owned when I returned.

If you know someone with an MSF laser cutter could you not send the print of the castle to be converted into an MDF template? Then print the castle onto high quality photo paper and stick it to to the MDF? Still some work but much more robust than just card and far less work than a full DIY job with foam.

That’s not a bad idea at all, I might have to ask around. A couple of years back I knew someone that worked for a company that made colour printed mdf terrain, that would have saved even more time, sadly they no longer do. One advantage of foam card is that I may well make some adjustments to make it slightly more film like, and foam board will be easy to cut.

I never got round to it, but Copplestone, looking at Kragenvale Keep, it looks like you are going down the path I only started I did get that one I did also used to have a 28mm Card Help's deep set up using another company's files, and it did work OK, at least with the GW Plastic Rohirrim

Those wargs and riders look great! 👍 I like the look of the card Helm’s Deep from a distance but not so sure it would look so good close up. Perhaps a combination of the card with foam board ? I think your paint work would be even better than the card stock.

You might be right, I think I’m just concerned about the time with a scratch build, as much as it would be fun to do. Ideally there would be something I could buy/get 3d printed to work from, but we shall see I guess.

If all this comes to pass: 'I will be like soooooooo happy'. As for the Copplestone stuff: Yeah! I bought some way back when, just after launch of the range if I recall aright. They're grrrrrrreat! Some codes are a little repetitive with almost zero variation, yet with a bit of mix and match (some individuals being clip-able from the five fig. base.(I did a bit of this without too much hassle )), and with a bit of light conversion (such as giving Uruk spear/pikes a pole weapon style head) etc. Bob's your mixed horde! The 'Dwarfs' especially are very Tolkeinesque and less the movies styled! I mean I like the Peter Jaskson stuff in many ways buuuuuuuuuuuuut (Uruks and most of the coooool stuff aside, thanks John Howe)! , it wasn't entirely Tolkien's Middle Earth enough for me and too many showy tweaks and gimmicks. Anyhow great stuff Miniature Realms. I'm going to be watching this space! Cheery pip holes and happy painting!! :)

Cheers Paul. I’m looking forward to having a close look at the Copplestone miniatures, they arrived just as I was leaving the house for two weeks so couldn’t open my new toys 😂. I really like the PJ movie aesthetics, but I totally get you, I like the more ‘traditional’ look as well, and hoping for a nice mix of looks for the project.

if you have someone with a 3d printer, cromarty makes a amazing castle that is 10mm scaled.

GW released Battle of Five Armies as a one off release in 2005, there were a few metal miniatures that supported the release, but nothing after that. It’s based on Warmaster.

Copplestone are the way to go for Rohan. I hate to break it to you but when you get back and open the evil characters pack the Nazgûl is not going to wow you - by far the weakest miniature in the entire range. The Eaglemoss chess set has a nice alternative though - if you can live with your Ringwraiths being 6½ foot tall?

I mostly use a size 1, but a 2 and a 0 get used quite a bit too.

...ooh ooh! Also using different makes of 10mm orc could be a great way to represent different tribes. Differentiating say Misty Mountain from Gundabad orcs or the soldiery odf Dol Guldor. I agree I think the Gw and Copplestone should blend real nice like! Okay now I'm finished! Got a bit excited for this project. Soz! I can bang on a bit when having a spod moment! :)

Bang on as much as you like, that’s a really good shout, if I find sculpts l like I’m very happy to mix manufacturers.
