Can you do the 1285 Mongol Invasion of Hungary? That's rather fascinating!

People forget a few factors of this battle. 1, The Mongols tactics often avoided direct combat and rather relied on raging supplies. So Bela have no option but to get the Mongols, in order to protect the country. Swaping bridgeheads would be a loss for him as well. 2, Most of the mongols are light cavalry, which are units that are more mobile than any of Bela's units. On open ground Bela's troops would get surrounded, outflanked. The Mondgols know they have the advantage on open terrain so they advance on the plains of Hungary. Falling back is not a good option for Bela at any time since it will mean him tremendous casualties. 3, Bela has no better strategic point to stop the mongols but the Muhi bridge. Elsewhere it is just as plain with no river for the next river almost 120 miles. Stone fortifications would be effective against Mongol tactics, but there is non within a radius of more than 100 miles at the time. 4. Bela decides to make "carriage" fortifications because that is the best he can do against arrows, cavalry charges and swift moving units. He probably has no knowledge of catapults or canons, which can easily deal with such a weak barrier. Having these in mind, even tough Bela is superior in numbers he has very bad odds at the beginning of the battle. At the point when the Mongols find places to cross the river they can convert the battlefield to a more opened one which means they have victory in their hands. Since mongols have war machines, Bela's "safe plan" the carriage camp is ineffective as well. In my view as soon as Mongols found places to cross the river elswhere the bridge the outcome was inevitable.

Pincer movement. They didn't stand a chance. Flank on both sides and thats the end of it. The only time i can see a pincer not working is on hilly turrain because they can see it comeing.

The key move here was Subedei and Sejiban crossing the river. That shouldn't have happened. Having to cross a river was a big disadvantage for the Mongols and it would have given the Hungarians the upper hand.

Lets put it in correct perspective. I am claiming there are 1,000 Hungarians vs 100,000 Mongols. So the defeat is not so shameful, right? Com'on, let be real. There isn't any home ground advantages? There isn't any reinforcement from allies? They don't draft every able man to fight, especially given the reputation of the Mongol?

Many sources state that although the Hungarians were defeated, the number of casualties taken by the Mongols were close to that of the Hungarians.

Modern estimates put the armies at around the same size, rather then the Hungarians having a larger army. However the size of the Hungarian army was smaller then this video claims, not the Mongolian army being larger.
