As an Australian that just started living in NZ im surprised by the amount of people that mock me and belittle Australia as if its some kind of competition. Over in Australia we dont even think about NZ much at all. Makes me think Kiwis are insecure and have an inferiority complex

Australians would be lucky to think of NZ or Kiwis once in any given year. As a reasonably frequent visitor to NZ, their obsession with Australia I find amusing. It is bizarre given that the average Aussie couldn’t give two flying f’ks about NZ.

As an Aussie I have travelled around NZ a lot and also worked with lots of kiwis both here in Australia and on project teams around the worrld. I cant say that I have ever run into any that were intentionally nasty towards me. Of course there is always plenty of banter between us but its usually just a bit of fun. The only time I ever been in a situation that could have turned nasty was in a pub in Palmerston when the Super 12 rugby was being shown on the big screen. A couple of Maori girls who had been loud walked up to our table and asked who we were following when I said that we dont actually follow rugby union they started yelling and abusing us so we left. I didnt put that down to being nasty towards Australians I put it down to 2 bogans who had had too much to drink and that can happen wherever you are.. One thing I have learnt over the years is when you get into a banter session with kiwis be preapared because they are usually quick witted and funny.. I would also suggest that there are bogans on both sides of the ditch who probaby get a kick from trying to bait people. All you can do is ignore them hopefully they get bored and go away to look for someone else to annoy.. We went on a lake cruise on the SS Earnslaw in Queenstown on the way back there was a group of well oiled Speights beer reps who I verbally spared with all the way to the town wharf I have never laughed so much in my life.

You believe Auckland has better nature than Sydney. That is puzzling, I cant think of any major world city that has as much nature as Sydney, You are surtounded by it, the Blue mounatins are 2 hours aemway and the becahes in Sydney are much nicer than Aucklands. NZ beaches arent that nice on the whole and the weather is usually awful. And you cant compare Auckland to a city like Sydney.

Born in Auckland lived there till I was 15. Been living in Sydney since then and Im now 40. You cant really come a city of 5.1 million to a city of just only 1.6 million. Auckland is more comparable to a city like Adelaide. My take on Auckland-its an 'underdevelop' version of Sydney as in Auckland has potential to build more infrastructure as its population grows like high rises, expansive train network, bridges, stadiums and a 'night life. In Auckland its mostly houses outside the city area wheres as in Sydney is just full of tall high rise aoartments every where including the shoreline to the outer suburbs. There seems to be a lot un used or under used green spaces in Auckland where in Sydney there very little land to develop on because its all used up making rents more expensive.

Unfortunately it's a loosing battle comparing these cities to each other. In terms of scale, population economy and diversity, I'd say any of the major cities in Australia would win on many fronts. You can maybe do a comparison of Adelaide or Perth to Auckland. That might be a fairer scale but not sure Auckland would still win.

It depends where you live in Sydney or Auckland. If you live by the beach in either city life is great. I would not want to live in west Sydney with flys, leeches, biting ants and the bin chickens. I would not want to live in West Auckland either with the ram raids and crime. So both have awful places and beautiful areas.

Nice opinion but comparing Sydney and Auckland is not a fair fight Sydney is a city with a population bigger than NZ obviously you will have more of everything and a greater variety. The cost of living is not as simple as just comparing dollars you need to take into account how much you are earning then work out the % against that. Sydney is bordered by the world heritage Blue Mountains to the west, the Royal National Park to the South and the Karingai Chase NP to the north there are plenty of waterfalls, dense forrest, waterways, hiking trails etc, and as a bonus some incredible wild life. You can do coastal walks like the Bondi to Coogee or inner harbour walks. Sydney has far more variety of bars, pubs, restarants, cafes with different cusines and places like China town or Spice Alley if you like Asian food. Sydneys beaches are world famous for their golden sand and surf some are well freqented by both tourists and locals others isolated with no one else around. Pies and sausage rolls have been in Aistralia a lot longer than NZ the meat pie arrived here in 1788 with the first fleet and was part of the menu for the first banquet. Pies and other pastries became popular in Sydney when pie carts started roaming the streets after the first flour mill opened in the very early 1800s, Ever since then you have been able to get them just about in any town in Australiai.. You can get good fish and chips at any water front but if you really want a treat go to the Sydney Seafood markets, Sydney also has an incrediblic public transport system so its relatively cheap and easy to get around this includes buses; trains, harbour ferries, river cats and light rail. You also missed the fact that Sydbey probably has the most beautiful harbour in the world and people like to spend their time both on and around it., there is also the added bonus of 2 world famous buildings (bridge and opera house) as a backdrop. I would argue that Melbourne,, Perth, Brisbane, Adelaide, Gold Coast all have as much if not more to offer than Auckland. .Sorry I know its just your opinion I have been to Auckland a few times and I loved it but in my opinion when compared to a city like Sydney it doesnt just get pipped at the post the gap is a fair bit larger than that. Get a few 40deg. days in Sydney and you might want to go back to NZ or Britain and you are correct they dont have any volcanoes in Sydney.

@@gracedagostino5231Sydney CBD itself is very small and easily can be seen within a day. Or a few days if you also plan to visit all the free museums and Art galleries. Greater Sydney however includes all the suburbs around the CBD, each is as big if not bigger than CBD, has its own attractions or scenes to explore. You don’t have to visit all of those though I highly recommend Blue Mountain Katoomba and Leura, Manly Beach, Chatswood and Newton for different vibes.

@@gracedagostino5231 I respect your view but if you have never been to either country you are relying only on someone elses opinion. i have been to both Sydney and Auckland many times I currently dont live in either. I can tell you as cities you are comparing apples with oranges. The only thing that Auckland has over Sydney is thst its nowhere near as busy so the traffic isnt as bad. If you prefer somewhere that is quieter Auckland is going to be your choice. I have also been to LA and a lot of other US cities. Both Sydney (4) and Auckland (10) are ranked in the top 10 most liveable cities in the world and lots of people want to live in them so its no surprise that buying or renting property is expensive. Melbourne sits at 3 and its the same thing there. Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth are also ranked in the top 20 so the reality is that living in a big city in Australia is expensive.. The highest ranked city in the US was Atlanta which according to Forbes came in at 26,

@@gracedagostino5231 Karen the reason Aussie actors live in LA is because of the film industry not because of the brilliant scenery or the beaches. The sports you mentioned maybe really popular in the US but not necessarily in other parts of the world probably why you guys have a world series with only teams from your country playing in it. You know why low class Brits and Asians move to Australia its mainly because they like to know that when they send their kids to school there is a good chance that they will come home. According to google in 2022 there were 96,000 Aussies living in the US both on temporary visas or with PR there were 101,.000 US born people living in Australia, I have flown into LAX twice both times I was greeted with a blanket of smog hanging over the city. You say that you would prefer to live in LA to Melbourne, Brisbane Perth or Adelaide thats your choice but as you have never been to any one of them its also only based on your assumption of what they are like...My wife and I have actually been out to the Santa Monica Pier and Venice Beach and to tell you the truth I was a little concerned about our welfare with some of the people that were hanging around out there. Having said that as tourists we really enjoyed LA, San Francisco, Carmel, Sacramento, Napa Valley, San Diego, Tijuana etc. I personally wouldnt want to live in any of them (maybe Carmel) but we did have a great time.

I'm Australian and i honestly don't think this is a fair competition. Of course Sydney's going to win. Auckland is better off being compared with the likes of Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide. Unfortunately for Auckland, (and even with weather aside) I'm not even sure if it would beat both Brisbane or Perth either. Auckland could possibly beat out Adelaide at a pinch since it's atleast managed to fully electrify its rail network before Adelaide has done with its own. Australia simply has a more robust economy to New Zealand's so it natarally has more money to spend on infrastructure for all its main cities. Not trying to sound neither boastful or humble. Just stating the way things are. And I'm sure many Kiwis would agree with me. That's why so many of them come over here.

Auckland "beaches" are overrated ... mostly mudflats. The eastern beaches/bay area are awful. There is no surf beach, Albany and Devonport are weather and tide dependant. And orewa is 50 min away without traffic but not consistent surf ... never uniform. Piha which is arguably Akl best beach is black sand, windy, and rugged waves, usually not pleasant. In saying this, Bondi isn't great either ... far too overcrowded and raked everyday for needles. Sydney harbour water is by far cleaner. In summa Akl has sewage overflow problems due to poor infrastructure... storm and sewage are connected, how third world is that!!! 😮😮😂
