BMW have reduced the UK prices of the i3 to under £35,000 so that they qualify for the £2,500 Grant after the changes made by the Government on the 18th March 2021. Just proof that BMW were just chancers with their pricing as are other Manufacturers just because up to £50,000 people could get £3,000 off. Now the cap is at £35,000.

@@georgewalker7061 wow?! That’s an enormous reduction! I didn’t think many of them fit below 40K before? Makes the i3 a lot more worth it now. I guess with the bigger electric BMWs on the way, they needed something to fit under 35K

@@AutoSocialUK the price will go down, classic supply and demand. Its not new tech so probably a convenient time to pass on the savings. Personally it's just a shame they didn't fit in a bigger battery in the MINI which is what creates a few of its limitations :( a custom MINI battery instead of reworking the packs from an i3 would be better. Personally I do think for everyday the Corsa is best as a way to get normal people into an electric car that isn't too small or "futuristic".

Not in the UK. I can still spec it in South Africa, even with the 120 aH i3.

Little difficult for the girls (Claire & Hannah) as they work at the dealerships and therefore charge points at the dealership which will be their main way for ‘free’ (to them) charging. HOWEVER, perhaps not a month but I have 2 electric cars coming up (back-to-back) for 2 weeks, so I will be documenting how I get on 😁 I’m going to try charging a few ways

The e-Corsa can be the same as the e-208 but then there are the specs and the cheapest of the range are lighter and go further, then you need to look at the actual kerb weights and the e-Corsa on 16" wheels and 295 tyres or 17" & 205's. Same with the e-208. Bother are the lightest of the PSA EV cars, DS, 2008, C4 etc. The WLTP is kidology with pinches of salt needed.

Just trying to completely clear this up Michael, everything online reads that you are correct but the girls (both work at BMW) have sold i3’s (even non i3 REX) have had £465 tax but we’re going to investigate even further on this to clear it up completely.

It does seemed to me that it was scrapped from April 1st 2020

@@AutoSocialUK luxury tax is only the i3 rex is payable if it was first registered between April 17 and April 2020 and had a retail price of over £40,000(road tax fees still payable at £135 per year because it's classed as a hybrid) as we are talking new cars any EV that has less than £60,000 does not pay luxury car tax.

I believe the i3 has been updated for 2021 but I don’t think the shape has changed. @hannahscartorque is this true?

I think the the BMW i3 is the probably the most advanced car under £200,000 so light quick for its size. Just try and beat one off the traffic lights.

Not sure how the i3 is outdated. An older design yes. However, a newer design does not guarantee that it is better. I think most would consider the tech (i.e. screens) dated in the i3, but as for the engineering, the i3 is still ahead of the other contenders in many respects. E.g. carbon tub, double wishbone suspension, dedicated EV platform. It is a shame that BMW haven't pursued the CFRP route and so no 'update' to the i3 design philosophy is going to happen.

One thing of note with the i3 is that it charges at 50kW across its full capacity. The peak charge rate can be a bit misleading if you're trying to charge to 100% since most EVs slow right down as they get past 85% full. So a car with 100kW can be slower to charge fully, than an i3.

I’m not sure if that is sarcasm but you’re correct. No range extenders available anymore and they’re also tax exempt. Sorry fell into the trap of miss information online.

@@AutoSocialUK good from a smaller capacity battery. It would be good to know if that was with both starting with 100% charge. And good if you called Rapid chargers just that if they are 50 or 100kW ones. Level 1,2 or 3 and fast charge rather odd terms.

Yes apologies, someone else mentioned that figures on the screen would have helped. The mini trim types are levels 1,2 & 3. The chargers also come in 1,2,3 1=3 prong, 2=fast charger, 3=super charger.... even I don’t know the KW linked to all those. 1=bloody ages, 2= a few hours, 3=pretty damn fast

I agree, if it has the latest i3 technology and did closer to 200/200+ it would have been absolutely spot on!

The question is who would won't to do 200 miles regularly in any kind mini anyway? None of them are really a traveling reps car. The thing is though if you have a long commute it is saving you hundreds of pounds a mouth. Eg a 10k car on hp equals about 250 in repayments plus fuel now you might be looking at 500 a month if you do 100 mile a day to work and maybe more for your monthly cost of motoring. Now go check PCP deal on an electric car. What would you rather have a £10,000 fiesta at 3-year old or BMW i3 / mini E/ Vauxhall Corsa E

@@AutoSocialUK But the Mini has the exact same drivetrain and battery as the i3S. The Mini in the USA is only $19k after tax incentives.. I am not sure what i3 technologies the Mini lacks? The i3 has no major tech no other EV is lacking.. These car city cars meant to be driven in an urban environment where there are numerous charging options, these are not long distances EVs and those complaining about the range should know these cars are purposely built with smaller batteries..
