Welcome to the second Battle of the Ports Remastered series. Today we are revisited Final Fight. The original video released on 30th August 2013 only covered 11 versions of the game and ran at 30fps 720p without any voice-over.
This remastered video runs at 60fps 1080p with voice-over and includes 14 unique versions of Final Fight and that doesn't include emulations of the arcade rom running on other platforms such as that found on the PS2's Final Fight Street Wise or compilation packs and virtual consoles.
Please think about supporting the show by subscribing to the channel or becoming my patron. Thank you so much!

That X68000 port is stunning. I was always fascinated by near-arcade perfect ports as a kid and had no idea about this one. For me, the Sega CD/MegaDrive CD was as close as it got until MAME came along.

Living in foster care my mom came one Christmas, I had told her about this great arcade game that was possible to play on my Amiga 500. My foster parents drove us to a shop called space world. Up until then, all my games were copies so this was my first original amiga game costing 60$. I remember living in denial about how bad the port was because my mom bought it. When my friends began to share the copy in the schoolyard, I felt I wasted my dear mom's money. May she rest in peace

I always adored Capcom's CPS1 music. It was harsh, sure, but in a tasteful way. In a way that doesn't sound tinny, or like straight up noise (unlike, ahem. GEMS.) It sounds loud, punchy, and even quite impressive in some regards (That FM brass in particular is very well made). In my opinion, CPS1 has the best soundtrack, with Double Impact just behind it.

These remasters are f'ing brilliant thanks Mark! What a game this was in the arcades, my favourite setup was a sit-down cab in a awesome arcade in Hull city centre called Sunspot. They got all the decent releases and was very competitive for the hi scores. Another great remastered BotP! Man, I used to absolutely adore Final Fight. I still love it, but I have to admit that I don't play it nearly as often these days as Streets of Rage, Double Dragon, TMNT, etc. Still, I played the arcade version every time I got a chance, and a friend got the SNES game just after its release (I didn't get a SNES until later). Even being slightly irked at having to take turns, we played so much of that version too. The SNES original release was not perfect but was still fun. Final Fight 3 was by far my favorite of the series on the SNES, but I don't dislike the SNES port of FF 1. Final Fight CD on the other hand was a system seller in my opinion: it's just simply an all around great port. It did so many things right: good graphics, sound, music, speed, and lovely 2-player action. And, Pyron's color hack is great too. Makes me wish Punisher had got this kind of love. I also picked up Final Fight One on GBA on its release. I remember having a lot of fun with that at the time, but, to be honest, I haven't played the GBA version in a looong time. I've never played any of the other ports. No matter the quality of any of the ports, Final Fight, along with Phoenix, Street Fighter 2 and Alpha 2, Virtua Fighter 1&2, Ms. Pac Man, Operation Wolf, Double Dragon 1, X-Men, and a few others are arcade cabinets that I simply do not have enough will power to walk by and not drop a few credits in and play.

Nice vidéo. X68000 is the best version for me but it is not arcade perfect thought, and this should have been mentioned I think. - Less ennemies on the screen - The light does not flickering in the 1st stage (while it does on Mega-CD) - No other train passing by when you are yourself in the train (it is in the mega-cd) - Some sounds effects were removed (no crowd noise against Sodom, no fire noise in stage 4) Etc, etc. It is still better than Mega-cd that is coming close second since it gives the closest arcade feeling in my opinion...
@arioca
@arioca 4 жыл бұрын
Correct, the X68000 port is really impressive but it isn't arcade perfect. I'm glad you pointed all the differences out. Regarding the X360 / PS3 ports, they are by far the most arcade accurate ones and those "achievement" pop-ups that were mentioned only show up once each time you obtain them. Once you complete all these challenges, they go away for good so they're no longer visible.

Retro Core It's not even underpowered hardware. It's piss poor programming. Double Dragon apparently uses similar (but weaker) specs to the Namco System 1 (even having a same CPU), which gave us games like Splatterhouse, which had huge sprites that can fill up the screen at times. Double Dragon is just a half assed effort that just somehow got popular in the end.

Thanks for not being too hard on the SFC ports, I’ve always rather liked Final Fight Guy. I’ve always felt it had the potential to be pretty good if Capcom had spent a bit more time and hadn’t cheaped out on a smaller cartridge. Like you mentioned, there’s loads of unfinished stuff in the ROM including the basics of a two-player mode and the missing factory level. I’m not totally surprised the 360 game isn’t a port. I’m pretty sure when Capcom made the classics collection for the PSP they built easily portable versions of the game, as the same versions of SFII and Final Fight from that collection ended up on iOS. So it could well be the same code used again for the Xbox.

Wow, this is a big coincidence. I've had the Belt Action Collection for a while now sitting sealed, because my slim ps4 does not like to provide audio to my tv, so I ordered an hdmi audio extractor, which I installed today. It works luckily. So literally today one hour ago I opened up the collection with the 7 poster and ran the disc in my ps4. I played a few second of Final Fight too and now a remastered edition of Final Fight BOTP. I love these remastered versions of your videos! Amiga version is running in 50hz, should be 60hz. The music is way too slow. Not that it would be much better. All games should run in 60hz. All those computers ports were done always by one guy in maybe 2 weeks. So they're most likely always crap. They were never meant to be any good. Just trying to make some profit. Focus was on nice arcade artwork on the box, heck perhaps even put on some arcade screenshots. The Amiga was just the worst, the only arcade ports that were ever decent were one screen games like Rod.Land. The music on the Amiga though was usually excellent. Wow, the GBA port sounds horrible, some notes seem to be off key. I don't understand what is going on, but it's really rubbish Cool that you put the BOR Dreamcast version in there and the pyron color hack of the mega cd version I was jamming out to the outro! What a wonderful video! There's also a 3 player hack in the works for real hardware! kzfaq.info/get/bejne/e8p9nLBiptypZo0.html

I really liked the SNES port. The graphics looked great thanks to the large color palette. I didn't care too much about the lack of 2 player mode since my brother didn't care about beat em ups, so I always played those single player. The censorship amused me. The "Oh my car" is still one of my favorite game samples. I'm not sure I get the console port battle between the Sega CD (Mega CD) & SNES (SFC) though. Sure the Sega CD port had 2 player, and Redbook audio, but you had to take a few things into consideration: 1. It required a Genesis AND a $400 Sega CD. 2. You had to wait another 2 years after the SNES Final Fight release. 3. The colors are extremely dithered and garish looking when compared to the SNES color palette. Of course there would be even better options later on, such as the Capcom collections. Final Fight Double Impact on the PS3 is one of my favorite ways to play it now. With it's remixed OST option, drop in/drop out online co-op, and more.

you obviously try to downplay the mega-CD version but you forget many points: 1° the SNES hardware and its games were more expensive than mega drive 2° the mega-CD port has 2 player co-op and redbook audio, yes, BUT also all the three selectable characters + all the stages + better gameplay + many better visual details + higher resolution + fullscreen (SNES has black borders) + exclusive content... I mean, LOL, it's just much better ^^ as for the colors, they are perfectly fine for a 4th gen video game, especially since these systems are meant to be displayed on CRT screen or on emulator with scanline filter. this just goes to show that sega chosen more wisely their priorities (CPU; resolution; etc.). and then there's also a color hack for those who want... And SNES colors have their downfall as well. The sprites look too pink for instance and some other assets look darker than the arcade.
@ryzmaker11
@ryzmaker11 4 жыл бұрын
one thing I agree though is the release date. final fight CD should have been released earlier indeed, preferrably as a launch title for the mega-CD in 1991 or, at least, released the following year in 1992 and not 1993
@videogameobsession
@videogameobsession 4 жыл бұрын
@@ryzmaker11 I didn't forget anything. 1. The Genesis was $180 (included 1 controller and Altered Beast) SNES was $199 (included 2 controllers, and Super Mario World). So for $19 more you were getting another controller and a much better launch game. 2. There is no question that the SNES graphics look MUCH better than that of the Sega CD port. Even the biggest Sega fan has to admit that. If your SNES sprites look too pink I would suggest outputting a clean RGB signal using a quality cable. They should look perfect. Use 240p Test Suite's SMPTE color bars to verify. I don't want to come across as hating the Genesis. I LOVE that system. I bought it on launch day, and still own my original system (in box) from August 1989. I still love it, and while I didn't buy the Sega CD at launch, I bought a model 1 a few years later, as well as most of the good games. I even bought 2 copies of Final Fight CD, one of them I kept factory sealed. It's a good game. I just hate to see people unfairly compare it with the SNES. And of course the SNES was capable of 2 player co-op as demonstrated with Final Fight 2 and 3. It just took Capcom some time to optimize their SNES developing.

@HUB GOBLIN Both Capcom and Konomi struggled with the SNES development at first. Look at Super Ghouls N Ghosts.. a fan would later optimize it and remove all of the slowdown, which was VERY prevalent. Capcom would also get better with their SNES programming and add 2 player co-op to both Final Fight 2 and 3. I do really like what Pyron was able to do with his Final Fight CD color optimizations. They look nearly as good as the SNES in some levels!

Always thought the GBA version was fun with the option to unlock the Street Fighter incarnations of Cody and Guy. Well that was excellent. Final Fight has always been near and dear to my heart and a rather sensitive issue haha I never played or had seen the arcade version of the game so the SNES was my very first experience with it and it was a jaw dropping experience for someone like me. As years went by I learned how scaled back it actually was. In the mid 2000s I acquired a model 2 Sega Genesis+SCD and a little while later I scored a CIB North American version of FFCD. It has with out a doubt, the BEST sounding music of ANY VERSION. Played through a 5 channel stereo sound system with a subwoofer is stunning to hear. My hope is that someone or even Capcom themselves would make a new and proper port of the original SNES/SFC game utilizing an enhancement chip for better speed and fluid animation and of course cooperative play.

And I disagree with all of you. Arcade is FANTASTIC. It's so crisp and rockin, but the SNES port is yet another lazy SNES Capcom OST that doesn't push the amazing SNES SPC-700 to its limits. (This goes for most Capcom SNES OSTs too, which originally gave me the impression the SPC-700 sucked a year ago. It doesn't. Capcom sure as hell gave me a good reason to originally hate the SPC-700 when people would praise their soundtracks non-stop even if they aren't any good, which I think is why most MD fanboys also hate the SPC-700.)
