Sean and I go head to head in 500 points reconnoitre with my Harad list going up against his Minas Tirith. I dont want to give anything away but this game was super close! Music by Emily - RollForFantasy.com

Great batrep. I really liked this format. It is not just that it is shorter, but that we get the running commentary which can help people really get into the game and maybe even learn something new.

Working through the batreps on the channel - great one here. I'm a big fan of Gandalf the White in Minas Tirith (more flexible approach to dealing with a variety of different models), though he can be really tricky to use well. Pairing him with Faramir is a bit pricey in a small game, could use Madril/Ingold (both pretty cheap) if you want to keep your Might high or you could use Denethor if you wanted more numbers.

The Minas Tirith list wasn't particularly competitive but Sean still did really well with it. I have played with Gandalf quite a bit now and absolutely love running him with Aragorn King Ellesar at 750 points. Its super elite but the two of them together can kill nearly anything! Madril is one of the better cheap hero's he offers a lot of control is maelstrom and is a solid 3 might for 55 points Thanks for the comments, mate it helps a lot! Keep going on the battle reports!

Slight correction on the recon end-game rules: the game ends when your army is reduced to 25% of its starting size, but models who have escaped off the board edge don't count as casualties. This means that if more than 25% of your force escapes, your remaining units can be killed and the game continues playing until you hit the time limit (assuming you have a time limit)...
@ConquestCreations4 жыл бұрын
I think its a bit ambiguous, I think they do count as casualties. In the rule book on the scenario it specifically states that models that have moved off the board do not count as casualties for the purpose of determining if the force is broken. Meaning that the default assumption would be that models that move off the board count as casualties in all other situations. I checked the Errata and FAQ and didn't find anything. Although I am definitely up to hearing your interpretation If it were the way that you said there could be situations where I have no models remaining on the board because they have all escaped and the game keeps going which seems strange

@@ConquestCreations The rules for Reconnoitre (p. 143 of the main rulebook, no idea what page it is in the Matched Play guide - need to get that book) states under the "Objectives" section that "Models that have escaped off the board count as being on the board for the purposes of determining if a force is Broken", which would appear to mean that the force has more than 25% of its models on the board and hence are not quartered yet. The Designer Commentaries for the Main Rulebook reiterates this as well (as of now, that's on p. 7). Personally, I think this scenario works best if you have a time limit, but since most casual games aren't played to a time limit, I think it would be reasonable to not count models who have escaped as being on the board for a casual game. Nit-picking aside, I think the batrep was great - keep up the good work!

What is a good list for making Gandalf the White work competitively?
@ConquestCreations Жыл бұрын
Gandalf the white is super strong but he is very expensive so you really want to make sure you get the most out of him. I think he works best at bigger points around 750. He can fit into any Minas Tirith army at that size. My favourite list with him was at 750. King Ellesar on horse, Gandalf on Shadowfax, beregond on horse, and as many warriors of Minas Tirith as possible. It's the only army that ever killed my Balrog.

Crazy how much more troops Harad gets. Gandalf must eat up a huge portion of the points. Do you think he’s worth it??
@ConquestCreations2 жыл бұрын
Gandalf is super expensive and is worth it most of the time. He is great at countering big heroes, monsters, and shooting armies so if your opponent is missing them its going to be tough to get full value out of him
