The amount of people that didn't even know Battlefield 2142 exists makes me kind of sad since it was such a fantastic game. 2142 was the Battlefield that redefined how later titles would work, such as kit customization and dropping the number of classes from 7 to 4.

BF3 and BF4 are connected, Dima appears in both games, same for Hawkings (The character we play in the Jet mission in BF3 and then the Helicopter pilot in BF4), plus it's easy to connect both wars if you look carefully at the multiplayer story line, and I believe there's a connection to BF 2142 too because of the Final Stand DLC in BF4

BF 1, 2, 3, 4 and 2142 are certainly in the same universe. There may be a possibility that BC2 is in this universe too(I never played BC1 tho), but throughout the others there is no mention of the Black Weapon. If so, until 2006(I think, the events of BF2) it is the same timeline as ours,when things change with the story of 2, 3 and 4 follow up, then the Final Stand DLC from BF4 in which are many references to the future and to 2142. I can bet that in the future, not necessarily the next battlefield, but one of the next to come will be a futuristic marvel, set after 2142. Besides this, I really really liked the plot of BC2, and it kinda felt like another timeline, so different from 3 and 4. I really hope we get the timeline to continue, and maybe the timeline of BC as well, if it is indeed not the same as the one aforementioned.
