Hello everyone and a Happy New Year to you! Today I'm releasing the first of a four-part mini-series on some untold stories from the Age of War. I've wanted to revisit this era for a while as there were a number of events I never included in my original history. I did a writeup of the twin tyrants a couple years ago. One interesting thing I noticed while putting it together was the difference in how their mother is depicted in different sources. The Davion House book, a ComStar work, depicts Marion as ambitious but a good decision-maker whose elimination of the other First Families as a power in government was welcomed by the people at large. Handbook: House Davion, a product of the FS government, just paints her as power-hungry.

That's an interesting observation. I do like that they try to frame sourcebooks from a specific POV in the setting.

The sad part is that the Federated Suns learned nothing when centuries later another ruling council plunged the Federated Suns into Civil War until Alexander Davion ended it and gave the Federated Suns the final change to it's today's form.

Considering how much we've heard of the leadership of House Davion and the Federated Suns as the "First Prince" in more well-traveled Battletech lore, it's rather jarring here to hear of the head of Federated Suns leadership referred to as "President".

They had a rotten foundation from the start, turning the federation part of the state's name into a joke by successive power grabbing into an absolute monarchy.

How do we know that Simon didn’t make deals with the Capellan Confederation in helping him rise to the top for unknown promises? These are the questions we need answers too.

The Capellan Chancellor refused to acknowledge Simon Davion after he took power so it's not likely. Obviously that's a tactic the Capellans would end up using a few centuries later.

@@SvenVanDerPlank this always felt like one of those open secrets where everyone knew something happened that no one was talking about, but it was more convenient for everyone to no dig deeper. That said I'm sure the fact that Simon went on to claim almost absolute power would help with encouraging people not to ask questions.
