I was hoping you would start talking about the years between the first and second succession war next. This seems like a weird reversal to suddenly go backwards 3 hundred years. It's a little disjointed with the narrative of the series

The reason I'm doing these mini-episodes is because it's gonna be another two weeks at least until the 2ndSW is ready. Thought I'd cover some minor events from the past to fill in the gap. I didn't cover the Age of War in as much detail as later eras so there were a handful of events that I had never gone over. Alternative was just a long silence on the channel.

@@SvenVanDerPlank Maybe then you could show a timeline in the beginng that makes it easier to identify at what point of history we are at the moment. Just name the year does not really help unless you are super deep into the history.

Thanks for the suggestion. I do actually plan to make a new intro once I reach 3025 with an overview of the entire project, how they fit together into the timeline and what order to watch them in. I just need to reach that point first as obviously I don't want to have to redo it with every new series.

@@Thyleinhe does almost always say the year in the first 45-90 seconds of every episode, but I guess when YTube is recommending this again in 2-3 years it will be helpful

Episode 3/4 in this mini-series. Finale is already up for tomorrow. When I first thought of revisiting the Age of War, this was the first place my mind went to for something new to include. It's a fairly major event in the Lyran timeline and of the era and I sometimes wonder if I left it out by accident. Maybe the Von Rohr Rebellion which is going on concurrently took me past this end-point and I didn't want to go back and do something so similar to the upcoming Davion Civil War.

I'm really liking these little interludes in your Grand Telling of the history of the inner sphere. Moments that could get lost in the larger conflicts that let us commoners see behind the velvet curtain & give intriguing insights into this world of the Great Houses and their (oftain less-than-savory) characters.

I regret not telling them sooner. The reception to these short vids has me wondering if I should change up my format entirely going forwards. That does limit me in certain ways so I'll have to give it some thought.

After tomorrow I think I've covered pretty much every major event from all eras between 2000-2821. I might do some other random vids but they might not be history focused.

I've always felt this was an overlooked component in the trouble Skye and Tamar have with Donegal and the central government. The day of rage may be the big flashy event, but it wasn't the first time the two sides had come to blows.
@SvenVanDerPlank
@SvenVanDerPlank 6 ай бұрын
I think the original founding families of McQuiston and Tamar had only recently died out, and the new Dukes of Skye and Tamar were relative upstarts. I don't think there was much ill-will between the provinces after the civil war was over but perhaps I'm wrong.

Like a lot of political situations, the tensions ebb and flow depending on circumstances. It seems like relationships were much better immediately before the dark years, when the Archon was marrying the sister of the Duke of Skye.

Can i just say, although i love what your doing for the mechwarrior community and the way we view our beloved passtime, it cant come at the cost of your health, i .. aswell as afew others have noticed you tend to upload quite abit, and god knows i respect you for it but there is such a thing as burnout and it can hit hard and fast, i hope your taking that into account when you upload every day If i may be so bold, learn to take time for yourself, it will do you wonders in the future
@SvenVanDerPlank

I appreciate your concern. It's definitely a valid one. I would say first that the growth in the channel this last year and support on Patreon has allowed me to reduce my work hours which in turn allows me to put more time into video production, hence the increased output. Secondly, burnout for me occurs every so often regardless of whether I invest my time being creative or not. I could spend half the time I do working on this series and still grow tired of it at the same regular intervals. As such when I've got that drive to work and create things I always want to take full advantage of it as I know it'll get me to my goal sooner while also being confident that the inevitable fatigue will pass and I'll be back to it in a few months. It's just how I've learned to balance things but if it stops working for me I'll switch things up.

I don't think it was just that Robert "lacked the drive" to depose his aunt. I've always thought it was more personal than that. As an infant he was taken in by his uncles, and then Michael died when he was a baby, so Steven and Margaret would have been his parental figures. Even without the extra baggage of his parentage, that's a hard decision for most people to undertake.

I love getting even a little BT lore, but I'm a big fan of the 5 hr marathons (compilations, I guess). I too would like to move through the succession wars. I'm wondering if, in the distant future, you'll be tackling Operations Bulldog and Serpent, and what led to them post-Tukayyid. Maybe it's a bit light on source material though, since it's more recent stuf. I've read the novels, but there's little else I can find, particularly in the format you, Tex and a few others use. Great content, thank you much.

Only one more in this mini-series. I'm literally writing the scripts for the Second Succession War at this moment. I'm hoping to get them finished soon, after which we'll return to the longform content you're after. I will absolutely cover BULLDOG and SERPANT (MechCommander was my introduction to the series so expect needlessly thorough coverage on Port Arthur) but it's still a ways away. If you want to do your own reading, the Twilight of the Clans series and sourcebook is your obvious go-to, but also check out "The Dragon Roars" sourcebook if you can.

Your not wrong, but I'd argue the Lyrans aren't really any worse than any other faction in that regard. I mean, how many times have the Cappellans screwed themselves over either from incompetence or madness? The Freeworlds League is always just a couple of steps away from a good civil war, The Sun's have certainly had their political backstabbings, and the Combine's honor tactics and their alarming tendency to assassinate their Cordinator's have certainly shot themselves in the foot many a time. I'd say it's all balanced.

As Frederick Steiner said to Victor Steiner-Davion: Steiners have the tendency to throw their siblings of the throne and it is something fully developed in your sister." Though to be fair almost every realm has seen some form of civil war. Except perhaps the Outworlds Alliance
