one thing I particularly like about the battletech unit names is how you can tell what the different nation's philosophy for creating battlemech units is. The Fed Suns and Cap Con name them like cavalry/armor units, the Lyrans name them as elite guards units, the Combine treats them as a more normal part of their armed forces, and the league has more philosophies than it has provinces.
@SvenVanDerPlank

That's an interesting observation. I hadn't noticed how much their character carries over into the naming of their brigades.

That’s actually part of the reason why the Fed Suns are my favorite inner sphere faction, I have a mild obsession with cavalry and I just think the names of their units are so cool! But your spot on about how all the different name schemes work and it certainly gives some clues to their mindsets.

Those graphs really make you understand how necessary merc units were to "close the gap" between nearly equal (but not quite) powers. And it doesn't even count all the battalion-level and below mercs serving individual lords, corps, planetary governments, even cities, etc.

There are so many thousands of names from so many more languages in BT, it's inevitable that people get some wrong. The old Succession Wars boardgame? I've used some of the character art but most of the insignias originate from the Housebooks that came out over '87-'88. @SvenVanDerPlank
@SvenVanDerPlank 4 ай бұрын
Yeah, there is a bit of contradiction between how bad we're told the first war was and how much they were supposedly able to reconstruct. Their industry was operating at full force in 2821 of course (what hadn't been destroyed anyway), unlike the more gradual buildup leading into the war, and it never stopped spitting out weapons over the next eight years of relative peace. However it was the second conflict where things really started to decline and a large part of that is Operation HOLY SHROUD, which also ensured there would be no recovery afterwards, but we'll get to that in a few more chapters.

Mere units is not an indicator of Kuritas overall power (which it wasted) thousands of Jenner were expended in one way missions against random systems.. these would have outfitted 30 or more regiments alone if not so wasted and although they served to cause much destruction, especially to unarmed people, they also served as a useful training tool for davion hunter killer units which were not expended at such a rate and therefore gained significant experience...

I could share it in theory but I adjust the timing in the editing process alongside the visuals and animations. If I shared the audio file it would be full of long pauses and alternate takes because it's pointless to edit that stuff out first. That's why I upload an audio only version at the end of the project once the entire script has been properly paced out and corrected.

So something im seeming to notice is that the regiments listed are what appear to only be battlemech regiments. Which hundreds of regiments is a lot, but for the expanse of the universe, not enough numbers. Id be curious about the numbers of combat vehicle, aerospace and just conventional forces regiments there are
@SvenVanDerPlank
@SvenVanDerPlank 4 ай бұрын
I did briefly show them before the detailed breakdown began, but since the basis of the game is in the 'Mechs, that's naturally what gets all the focus in the sourcebooks. We only know ratios relative to the number of 'Mech regiments each faction has, so no accurate breakdown or deployment map is available. As a general rule, for every 'Mech unit each Successor State and periphery realm has three armour, five infantry, an artillery battalion and two Aerospace wings. That's the low estimate though, the Lyrans have an increased number of conventional forces for example.

Every now and again one will be named, but it's just offhand by whatever author is currently telling the story and not done with any consistency. But in the Successor States, a brigade is a loosely defined grouping of regiments that share similar origins, training organisation. Some of these are far larger than even an SLDF division. I talk more about it in the second chapter of the Star League Civil War series.

I went into more detail when I did the First Succession War. Episodes 2&3 were a Political & Military Overview that covered more than just the areas they were deployed. When I get to 3025 I'll probably do a series of videos covering each in detail again.

While I think the video came out good, if it was such a pain to make it probably wasn't worth it. maybe keeping the larger maps but eliminating the panning?

Well it was just this particular episode that was really labour intensive to have to do. I'm sure someone better trained could make use of features I don't know exist to do it so much quicker, but for me it was a very repetitive process of setting up hundreds of keyframes. Anyway, we're past it now.

@SvenVanDerPlank Most of us don't recognise anything past End Game.. and even a lot of that was Ham.... what you get when your best writer isn't paid and leaves and you let several people paint VSD as some sort of utter moron... also regents don't have the authority to hand over an entire state to someone else.. their powers are very much limited against any such eventuality.. etc etc

Being from Ireland I very much appreciate your pronunciation of Donegal. Beautiful part of the world if you ever get a chance to visit. 😊 Also I can imagine the thinking among many civilians around the subject of rearming being "the other states are rearming so we must too." Looking forward to the rest of the series.

You're exactly right. The state media was no doubt hyping up just how much the other nations were building their militaries, true or not, so that likely helped drum up support. As for Donegal, I've said it differently in the past (and still have to regularly correct myself). But I'm slightly confused about the name. If you've ever seen the series Sharpe, I'm 90% sure that Harper (who is Irish and supposedly his character is from Donegal) does not say it Dun-nee-gawl, but Do-neh-gal.

@@SvenVanDerPlank Yeah Irish place names can be odd sometimes when spoken in English, like "Dun-ee-gawl" is anglicised from the county's name in Irish "Dhún na nGall" meaning "Fort of the Foreigners" a reference to a old Viking settlement.

And I trough that Kerensky would have brought some resemblance of peace in his exile, whatever he had gone, but his son become a hierarchical fanatic, creating a rigid social cast system, everything that his father was against, in the end the Clans had become no better than the Nobles Houses that they left behind, and the rigid cast system only become a source for conflict.

Kerensky died in the middle of the SLDF in exile Civil War. It had already gone to hell. As for Nicholas, in the old FASA Lore, the caste system is no where near as brutal as it is now. When CGL took over, they re-wrote him as the second coming of Hitler. I like that CGL is keeping the setting alive, but their politics are, shall we say, a little left of center?

@@gregdomenico1891 I think that this has Worshop is trying to copy the other more successful setting, Warhammer 40K, if the Exiles reached peace and had go well and dandy they wouldn't have continue the grimm tone of war, and if you not known, Warhammer 40k is a parody of hardcore right-wing ideology, Battletech may be a parody of the hierarchical nature of nobility, and have no issues killing thousands of billions of civilians, for power and status, and how delusional they are, in case of Richard Cameron, and of course now, Nicholas, that mirror how close the British monarchy were with the NAZI, for much they didn't want to admit it, Battletech basically is continuing the tone of Warhammer 40k but without the space elves, seeing that to date we already have Four Succession Wars, a Clan Invasion, and then the Clans fight each other and become separate entities.

@TheKeyser94 You do know that Battletech came out in 1984, and 40K came out in 1987? So a good chunk of the early lore was already written. As for 40K, I have all but 1 of the HH series, so I do know a little about the setting. TT wise, 40K is the King, true. However, more people know Battletech from its spin off video game series, Mechwarrior. As for the real world politics part, that all changed in the mid 2010's, when CGL took over. During the IlClan era, you can see the changes in the writing style. And yes, some 40K authors have been doing the same thing. Sorry, I just don't like it when Companies and Authors start pushing a political agenda in my Sci-fi setting. Leave the real world out of it.

@@gregdomenico1891 Yeah, I began to known the lore of Battletech because the Paradox game of the same name and Mechwarrior 5 Mercenaries, I only began to understand the lore of Battletech a year ago, and I like it, is more than giant robots shooting each other, and mostly because is a post-post-post-post apocalyptic setting in a galactic scale, even that I like the setting of Warhammer 40K not have the same appeal, is basically medieval galaxy with orcs and elves, with their elder gods on a whim decided to colonise a random planet and plant the seeds of what later become Warhammer Fantasy, is a shame that you can find like hundreds of wallpapers in the internet about Warhammer, but nothing on Battletech, seeing the hundreds of mech designs, planets and factions.
