I never considered using a satellite view. Maybe I did years ago when the game first came out. But ultimately, the only way I could finish this mission was to pilot a lone bomber to just south of the spaceship, then tell the armory to keep sending me ammo so I could take out the thrusters myself. If I tried to lead a squad there, we would encounter Furies on the way, and I'd lose most of my ships in the chaos. But you didn't encounter any at all on the way - curious. Also, in the Redux, there was a problem where while I was trying to attack the spaceship, Furies were almost constantly attacking my southern base, so I had to surround it with powered up turrets to quickly dispatch them. Eventually, the Furies would crack my defense and destroy my Recycler. It was annoying enough for me to not care about trying anymore.
