Having started being a student at Baylor when Scott Drew started as a coach, he definitely built the program back up. Happy for the team, well deserved!

Back up...., he IS the program. Even when they were allowed to play non-conference games before the incident in 2003, Baylor was a 20+ point win for every other team on their schedule.

I remember when this happened back in my hometown I was a senior in high school in 2003 with the Patrick Dehenny scandal, and Dave Bliss was the coach it was a sad case for the program I didnt see how it was going to get back up. There was a guy on the team named Robert Guinn I got to know through his dad, but man I am proud of what Scott Drew did with the program.

Great game, played with "precision" by Baylor from tip-off to the W & their 1st National Championship. Something tells me Scott Drew and the Baylor "TEAM" will be back! Congratulations Baylor University and Gonzaga on a 31-1 year!

It is an incredible story! Not like rebuilding a blue blood that is underperforming like Saban did with Alabama or Roy Williams did with North Carolina. Most programs will eventually have a down couple of years. USC football is going through it now. Nobody cared about Baylor basketball. The Bliss story was as bad as it gets. Just phenomenal what Drew accomplished. Probably will be a movie written on it.

20 years ago, even without the Dave Bliss disaster, Baylor was one of the worst power-conference basketball programs. Think teams like Boston College, DePaul, Northwestern, Nebraska, Washington State nowadays who are always at the bottom. The thought was there was no way Baylor could ever compete consistently in the Big 12. To think they could be national champions was not feasible in any way.

Not even close to correct. Few JUST GOT A 5 START RECRUIT!! GONZAGA HAS 5000 students it's a small Catholic University!! 2017 When the ZAGS lost to North Carolina, Carolina had all 5 starters being 5 STAR RECRUITS. You don't know Basketball at all or at least anything about Gonzaga. Mark Few will get his title he's young yet...

I'm so glad Gonzaga lost they play in a trash conference against trash competition and get a easy path to the NCAA tournament every season. Oh I'm so glad that Gonzaga lost not only did they lose they got demolished. Hay Mark few remember late in the USC game when you were up by 30 with like 3 minutes ago and you still had your starters in running up the score? how does it taste now. I Can't believe people really thought this team was some unbeatable Juggernaut. They were only were undefeated because they play in a garbage competition in the WCC. I'm surprised they even made it to the title game this team is not athletic at all and their slow. Gonzaga will never win a national championship and beating up on Pepperdine, LMU, Portland, Pacific, St Mary's, San Francisco, San Diego and any other trash teams in that conference doesn't mean anything.

No disrespect to Baylor or their coach but the rebuild took over a decade... idk if I would classify that as biggest in the history of the sport.

You understand that they were "this close" to not even having a team. The NCAA talked about giving them the death penalty. They got about as close as you could without actually giving it out. Baylor was a bottom tier big 12 team to begin with. In their first 2 years after coach drew took over they had walk ons playing legit minutes in their rotation. In their 3rd year they could only play in their conference games. In his 4th year they won 21 games. In 2010 they made it all the way to the elite 8. 7 years removed from not even hardly having a basketball program. The fact that they are even competitive much less just won a natty says everything about this rebuild. Who cares if it took 18 years. Some coaches never even make a final 4, and have way more than what Scott drew started with.

BAYLOR stating 5 was average age 22.5 years of age. Older than Chicago Bulls NBA starting 5!! Two Baylor players were 24.5 years old... Gonzaga JUST THIS SEASON got a 5 star recruit in SUGGS. CAN YOU IMAGINE ADDING the 2 5 star recruits coming to Gonzaga next year along with Sabonis and Jack Collins 22 year olds?? I hope the age of Baylor players does not become the NORM. If older players becomes the norm, WE MAY AS WELL STOP WATCHING COLLEGE BASKETBALL and just watch the adults play in the NBA!!
