As a foreigner, I understand very little about the tradition surrounding the Grand National, but from the few races I've watched here on YT, I see you have some very old-fashioned procedures, to my view. 1. Lifting an almost invisible tape in front of 40 horses to start a race? What? 2. Flailing an almost invisible red flag to signal a false start? I know, there must be course officials all over the track, but when you're in a horse running at 35 mph, how are you going to notice?

Richard Pitman still reports for At the Races, but since the BBC chucked most of its racing coverage I haven't seen much of him; however, I don't think much of his style. It would have been better to have interviewed Julian Wilson or Peter O'Sullevan. There was no-one person to blame, but lessons were learned and the course is constantly being upgraded and maintained.

They could not have re-run the race because those horses who ran the 41/2 miles would have been at a distinct disadvantage. When would they have managed to reschedule - very hard to do. Lessons were learned that day and it was just one of those things that sometimes happens. Get over it. At least no horse got killed unlike other years. The people whingeing over their lost bets were pathetic , shows you just how awful people can be when things don't work out.
