I was impressed by the realism of this series within the first 10 minutes, watched it through in about 4 days. Been away from it for about a month now, and ready to watch it again. Perfectly cast, well acted, and lots of surprises in the story line. Battle scenes are good, the scenery is breathtaking. Looking forward to season two!

The guy who plays Uthred is German but pretty much all the others are Danish, Norwegian or Swedish and don't speak with German accents.

Just Uthred and Gisela are Germans, the other not. And for Uthreds role would be this special accent created which should the shown also this danish side. And Gisela ist not in this in this video.

He become a Christian and rules East Anglia. He has little interest in conquest and spends the rest of his life enjoying what he's won for himself. In the books he's mentioned a few times but takes no further part in the story.

Books vs show on guthrum is night and day. In the show, guthrum is kind of a place holder for several danish leaders that didn’t make it into the show so he comes off as very complex. I really really prefer show guthrum to book guthrum. Can’t say the same for much else though, definitely recommend the books. If you aren’t hooked by book two then idk what to say. Sword storm has my favorite fight in literature ever. Ever. Compared to GOT, compared to everything. At least do yourself the favor of reading that far.

as deeply religious Guthrum was to the Norse gods, its crazy to know his deep belief in daith and the divine that he truly believed God truly might have been stronger than Odin and the Aesir

No but he was one of the leaders of the great heathen army that attacked England to avenge Ragnar's death. Guthrum was the leader of the Summer army

If you notice, Guthrum, the Dane leader, didn't laugh. In fact, after his battles with Alfred he actually converts to Christianity.

In viking belief, as far as I know, the power that was supposedly given to christians was just a fantasy. They believed that a man was strong because he had the fortune and capability to be strong. Their spirituality and religious expression was totally different.
