"Why do Tories think pensioners matter more than young people?" There is a very simple answer to this question, that I hope is stated in the debate (haven't watched yet). Pensioners go out and vote. Its that simple, pensioners have always been very reliable voters and as such parties can create good policies that target the older generation with the knowledge that those pensioners will on election get off their arses and vote. Young people are notoriously unpredictable during elections, and most of the time have a very low turn out, iirc during the 2015 election the turnout rate among younger voters was around 30%. Even at the 2017 election in which Labour managed to invigorate the youth vote, the turnout was still around 60 - 70%. Since young people aren't reliable voters the Tories dont create many policies aimed at improving life for younger voters.

The answer is simple, pensioners are more likely to vote

McDonald's gives every new starter a 0 hour contract, and it's one of the most well known companies in the world but the stat is 2.3%, clearly.

The answers simple; look at the voter turn out of young people in comparison to pensioners. Many political parties know that they stand a far better chance of winning an election by keeping the pensioners sweet. This will only change once more young people take an active role caring about politics and how it effects them, once they do, I'm hopeful the voting turn out of young people will increase and more generational equality will ineffectively follow.

Pensioners in the main have a fixed income. My income now is half what I had when working. My pension increase this year has gone on energy costs. Those on pension now earned very low wages when they were young they had to pay to rebuild Britain After WW2 and pay for the war itself and The NHS. We worked a 48 hour week under hardly any safety standards. Jobs were not so cushy. In other countries in Europe they look after their old people much better. Anyway 45 years in the EU didn't help.

Youth and general employment problems will not be fixed untill the root cause is addressed which are minimum wage and central banking. The irony is that the youth in this debate is partially right, but their solutions are wrong. Current employment could be better and much of the current labor marlet is most likely misalocated, but labor party will not solve this problem either. This problem cannot be solved untill you allow prices to work and interest rates to naturalize.
