Awesome video and thanks for the great info! Like you, my heart belongs to the 7.62x39 and my Mk.47 is my favorite rifle, but if something were to truly happen, there's no denying that the AR-15 and 5.56 is the most accessible/plentiful/abundant/handiest platform to have in America. I'm currently building out my first AR (in 5.56 at least) and it's truly a fun process. There's a reason I bought a 3-pack of stripped lowers 😁

Planning on getting a BCM MK2 but just can’t stop flip-flopping between yhe 16” & the 14.5”. Typical length, weight, modularity freedom, wishes for suppression considerations plus… They STILL don’t have the peanut butter upper + hand guard combo that looks so tasty!! 😜 Great info, sir. Thank you!

@IkfNorCalChamp
@IkfNorCalChamp Ай бұрын
@@FitnFire I feel the difference. It’s 2 inches on the rail. 13 vs 15. The 14.5 noticeably feels better doing low/high ready drills. It’s less weight out front than the 16. Just be very sure on the muzzle device you want and even if you have to change it, it’s like 60 bucks.

I call myself "old school". Maybe I'm unprepared in the unlikely event of a worst case scenario or maybe I've been dumb, but I've always gone out of my way to _not_ dress my rifles up with a bunch of accessories. At most, I add an optic and, depending on the firearm, maybe an AFG or something similar. That said, I _like_ this setup. It kind of makes me want to buy a new rifle just to add the gear to. I'll still have my old school Colt AR, my AK and my Bullpup etc. I'd have one concern though: You've got a rifle that weighs approximately 7.5 pounds. I wonder how much weight all that gear adds. I likely wouldn't be marching cross country with it, but weight is always a consideration when you have weak, arthritic, 68 year old hands and arms.

Optics are objectively BETTER then irons. Lights & slings are essential. You MUST carry the rifle & IDENTIFY the targets.

IMO the minimalistic setup for a fighting rifle is optics, white light, and sling. Those are all force multipliers in most instances and if you need to go bigger, I’d look at doing a light weight build and add on the night vision stuff.
@DaveSmith-cp5kj
@DaveSmith-cp5kj Ай бұрын
Optics aren't necessary (a BZO will set you for 300 yards by default) but a weapon light is. Even decades ago during the cold war, any infantryman working at night would have a maglite hose clamped to his rifle or a general purpose light strapped to his shoulder because he isn't just going to be shooting at noises without identifying his target. For home defense a light becomes even more critical. My rifle is "fully set up", 9x fixed power scope (lighter than variable) or thermal, top mounted micro red dot, flashlight, IR illuminator, silencer, backup irons and sling. In the grip I have a spare bolt, stuck case extractor, packet of lube, and hex key. To me this along with night vision and armor and blowout kit, radio, and marking tools is bare essentials if you seriously expect to get in a fight. But at the same time to make this level of gear effective you need to be in a group so there are other factors that roll into that as well. Most people who just need self defense a handgun and light is good enough. You really don't need a rifle.

Only a nit wit would run a muzzle brake at night or one on any defense AR for that matter! Do you not see the big flash come out the front??? Have you ever heard of flash signature??? Your suppressor shoots out a big flame at night as well and is totally useless! You might as well just run a cheap A2 flash hider on it. Plus zip tie your light cords down!
