12:55 - I think this is exactly 100% correct but I'd add something to it. Which is that decisions like who is put in charge of what are always made by executives. Executives want one thing, they want as certain a return on investment as possible. But creativity is fueled more than anything by ephemeral things and risk. Executives try to come up with some formula for art, but that simply doesn't exist. There is an inherent conflict here between what the decision-makers want and what makes for good art.

Good to hear from you again man, incredibly insightful as always I personally blamed nepotism for why incompetent people were finding their way into creative roles But it seems to be a mix of both as most cases usual are.
@Xtrendence7 ай бұрын
The issue's even bigger, because a lot of managers who would be in charge of hiring people also got their positions through nepotism. So not only do you have incompetent people getting jobs because of their family, but you have managers who have no idea how to spot actual talent hiring whoever the smoothest talker is.

watch his video that he made a year ago, it touches on that topic - basically the reason these companies try and appeal to everyone is because as wealth inequality gets larger, companies are forced to cater to either the rich or the poor with no in between and since funds have been limited by the lower class, these companies need a larger pool of people to get funds from in the namesake of funding products. The same quality movie / game we played a decade ago would cost twice / three times as much today because of production costs and since common folk are less willing to spend time and money in the entertainment industry, they have to kind of "sell their souls" to get more people to engage with their product to maintain the same kind of cashflow Not defending it, just giving a tldw of the last video that explains why media seems more souless today

Always great to see you back man. But I'll actually disagree with you on the conclusion of this one. Brilliant creativity has always been rare. There's a reason we still know Da Vinci and Mozart but many painters and composers from their eras have been forgotten. Mediocre art has always been a thing and, in a age when "art" is produced as basically "content", we are bound to see mediocre works pop up even more. There's just too much stuff being produced. And this problem is always worsened in the case of adaptations since it's very rare a talented creative person wants to adapt something that is basically done and leaves little space for meddling like Halo. It's mostly out fault really for creating a demand for these useless tv/movie adaptations. If you want to witness brilliant creative minds making art you should look for it in original content. Like, well, like halo, you know, the videogame.
@duffelpuffelmcduff11817 ай бұрын
I'm right there with you, man. The back half of the video drew some conclusions that I don't think were warranted through the arguments presented. I've always felt that things generally just got worse they higher up the food chain you go when it comes creative Industry and production. I'm honestly kind of surprised he took up as combative a stance he did against the people he chose.
@AllTimeScary6 ай бұрын
@@duffelpuffelmcduff1181I agree with both of you. I’m glad he’s back and I enjoyed this video but the conclusion of screw college seemed kind of off. The issue of student loan debt, massive barriers of entry to college, test scores being the most important thing in k-12 and nepotism are serious problems that need to be addressed. I don’t think ending or blaming college is the answer.
@alexschneider84946 ай бұрын
I mean it’s also because the people in Hollywood are Narcissists that almost all adaptations of other forms of media turn out to be dogshit. Why do they veer so far from source material all the time? Because they want to make the project their own and think they can make it better than the beloved, original material. They think they’re more talented than they actually are. They don’t care that the IPs they are adapting are successful for a reason, BECAUSE PEOPLE ALREADY LIKE THE STORIES THE WAY THEY ARE. Oh and let’s not forget most of them have been taught that to be in Hollywood you have to be an activist for the progressive left so you’ll inevitably end up with things like black Captain Keyes or Kwan Ha to fill out “muh diversity.” Not to mention that most Hollywood award shows have diversity quotas to even have your material considered for awards which also sways them.

@SuspiciousPufferfish7 ай бұрын
I would agree that the use of the word "woke" in the title was kind of strange and ambiguous, but BDobbins has not unironically used the word "woke" once throughout this entire video to describe dissatisfaction or dislike for anything. In fact, the majority of the video appears to come from a place of observational and objective criticism, and has essentially nothing to do with party politics with the exception of one part in the latter half of the video where he takes a potshot at the Democratic party, however that seems to be a tangent reference to a larger criticism of the party which has little to nothing to do with this video. I don't know BDobbins personally, but the impressions of him that I have gathered after watching some of his videos over a considerable amount of time are that of a person, while abrasive and blunt, does not unironically pander to petty party politics in attempt to "own" one side.
@cheesecake73847 ай бұрын
@@SuspiciousPufferfish no, he just complains about college campuses and talks about a plot to 'cancel' the UNSC. lol. the language he uses is textbook, even down to the 'childish narcissism' drop. the halo tv show was shitty because it was made by a corporation that wanted to make a cash grab streaming exclusive from existing IP instead of writers voluntarily setting out to tell a specific story in the halo universe; it's literally just a generic sci-fi show wearing halo skin. the writers are doing a job they were hired for, not fans trying to tell or adapt a story. it has jack shit to do with progressive politics but somehow there are people who will always tie it back to this vague concept of 'wokeness'. 'woke' doesn't even mean anything. dude unironically thinks a child soldier eugenics program was a 'necessary evil' and that halsey is a good person even though if the covenant hadn't rolled around spartans would still be putting down human colonists seeking independence, the thing they were *actually made for*, because he fetishizes militarism and trauma, thinks that ignoring suffering is actually manly and heroic, and that the original trilogy was making this kind of social commentary instead of the chief deliberately being a non-character vehicle for players to self-insert for a power fantasy. i'm pretty sure most first-time players of the original trilogy wouldn't even know the chief was a child soldier, or anything about the spartan program because it isn't really mentioned. there's no 'knowing you were done dirty as a child but ignoring it and moving on because you have a job to do' BS because it literally never comes up. some serious projection.

Sorry but the UNSC were already cartoon villains. They didn’t train child super soldiers to fight aliens. It wasn’t necessary. The Spartans were made to fight other humans, not to save humanity. They just happened to be made just in time for the covenant conflict. That’s what makes it morally grey. The UNSC was a military super power for the means of subjugating human colonies. But this coincidently prepared humanity for the Human covenant war. And to add more to the greyness of it all. Halsey didn’t see the Spartans as military hardware. She a trans humanists who see them as the next step in humanity. She just uses the military as a means of achieving her ambition. Of course all of this is really subtle and isn’t thrown in your face I the halo story. And almost none of his is event mentioned during the games, just subtle hints at most. The games rightly places the war first and foremost and not some hamfisted moral question. Kinda like in real life. No one is asking about the scientist who got us to the moon and operation paper clip. Instead we focus on the fact that us, humanity, just made it to the moon.
