Grandma passed down the same type of sheet cake to me and every year dad asks me to make him this sheet cake for his birthday since it’s his favorite cake from childhood. The icing is SO rich (especially when leaving out the nuts). Something fun you should try is starting to make the icing 5 min before the cakes done so that as soon as the cake is out of the oven you can pour the icing on top of it. The cake almost absorbs some of the icing and it’s fantastic 😊
@janadean2103Ай бұрын
I just commented about poking holes in the cake and prepping the icing right before the cake is done. That's how my mom used to do it. My mom's recipe had a bit of cinnamon.

I make a powdered sugar icing with vanilla and put it on my 2-Great-Aunt Ediths' Applesauce Loaf made as a 13x9" cake instead. By putting the icing on the cake it absorbs into the cake ¼-½ inch. My husband sat one morning and ate the whole cake!!! He had never had an applesauce cake before. Because it is meant to be a loaf it makes for a shallower cake....he was 22 at the time, and now that he's 66 he can't do that anymore. Lol between then and now he had to compete with 2 boys, so he learned how to do with less. Lol

I live right near the Nueces river which is named for all the pecan trees that grow along its banks. (Nueces is Spanish for “walnuts”, but when the first Spaniards got here, they didn’t know what to call these nuts. So, they called them the closest thing they were familiar with: walnuts/nueces. At some point someone learned that the Algonquin tribes called them “paccan”. So, in French it became “pacane”; in Spanish “pacana”; and of course in English “pecan”. Still have no idea where the “pee-can” pronunciation came from since it’s so different from the others. Lol!
