There is a reason that silk ribbon bookmarks were used in yesteryear's books. Fabric is the way to go, but as with a book itself, proper storage is need for fabric bm as well. While I find it fun to read lost to time newspaper bm, they do cause damage. This is something to look out for prior to buying any book for resale or future investment. The metal book clips are very bad for pages.
