Rob and Ashley discus things that brain injury survivors hate to hear. With a brain injury survivor, you should always be patient and mindful that we may look the same, but our communication and understanding has been altered.

Way to go Rob and Ashley, well done! Just to share, when I was first injured in my car accident, I was in a wheelchair for quite some time as I learned to walk, recover, etc. I was directing a criminal justice program and struggling to function each day. One of my co-workers, who was struggling with her own mental health issue (depression I think), but she said to me, "You should be thankful you are in that chair!" I didn't understand what I thought was her cruelty that day, I thought to myself, I should be thankful to be so seriously injured? What? Who would say something so cruel. I felt absolutely robbed of my life and she thinks I should be grateful? Then, my body healed a bit more and I learned to walk again and got out of the wheelchair (months later). Then, what she really meant started to make more sense - her hidden pain and suffering. It became more evident to me as time went by and I accepted more of my own TBI injury - I learned more about the "invisibility" of a brain injury. How little people understand not only TBI, but mental health concerns in general. I hated when I went through this with her, but after time passed and I learned more, I fully understood it and appreciate the experience of going through that with her. Again, good job on this work and putting yourselves out there to educate others. I could follow-up on a lot more of what you 'all had to say, but enough boring you for now, smiles. Keep up the good work.

Thank you for the kind words, this has been such a blessing to do as much as it has been blessing others as well. My prayers is that it really goes far and above what I would even dream.

This is a great video. This is why I asked to join the support group, which is awesome. But, I would change the name to something like "this is my new daily life" or something better worded. I've shared this with a few family and friends and they all say they understand better now what I go thru. Thank you.

Thank you so much. My hopes in doing this video was more geared towards family who discount our symptoms or think we are faking it. I’m so glad this video helped

You mention rest is important. I get on average 6 hours of sleep at night. Do you think thaat this is hindering my recovery?

There’s so many factors that play into our recovery. Sleep is very important, but it’s not going to necessarily heal all your symptoms. I get about 6 hours myself. My neurologist told me that typically where you are in your recovery after 3 years is about where you will be. It’s not to say you won’t ever get better, but that’s not uncommon.

@@liferewiredpodcast I'm 11 years out so I definitely plateued lol. I'm just more interesssted in WHY I need so little sleep. My family + friends all get >8. My running theory is that I need less sleep because I am less active (I am wheelchair bound). I used this same idea to lose weight while in a wheelchair! I'm less active, so I don't need quite as much food.
