I think I have the simple solution for this. You are what you pursue. You can say bee don’t give a crap, they just do their business, and it’s the same for us. We follow society’s standards and we also don’t give a crap that we do it, and that is also the authentic us. Doesn’t matter what we do, we are always authentic because we are the result of nature. And so is nature authentic? Nature functions the way nature does and so nature is what it is. So how can we be what we truly are, we already are and so what matters is pursuing what we want to pursue without worrying about authenticity. If you’re having a speech and put authenticity on your top priority then the speech will become “trying to be authentic”. If you have a speech because u enjoy talking, and there’s nothing more important than that and your speech will become “The speech” and only that.

I'd like to Politely disagree, and maybe if someone has different thoughts I'd be happy to read it too. I've been thinking about this for a while and how we seem to be just finding out that "be yourself" is a bad advice. But, strangely, I came to the opposite conclusion. I think when people tell you to "be yourself" they are expecting you to "act naturally", hoping that you'll find authenticity by instinct. They are telling you to trust your own ideas, your own taste, and do what you feel like. But I think that, as a species that rely so much on community and empathy, it would be impossible to not be inspired by, or even mimic, someone else. And what you would end up doing is, as you said, copying the styles, the ideas and morals that are popular without question. So the ideal, I find, is to try to listen to various different perspectives. Instead of looking within, to find a "tennis ball" you don't even know if exists, to look outside and then compare your notes with other people's. Not to find the "superior" one, but to try to understand how one comes to those conclusions, what motivates other people, how their past has changed their views, and then use that as a frame to better understand yourself, and use the inspiration you will get from them as a map. I'm not completely sure I believe each one of us has a "natural self", an unique tennis ball we must Find and cultivate, protecting it from outside influences as to not corrupt it. I think of "self" as something you develop subconsciously as a kid, and that you can change and improve when you become old enough to know how. But the process of "finding" versus "creating" seems kinda alike sometimes, so maybe it's just a different way of seeing the same thing ? And either way, even of you try to be someone else you can only be your own perception of them, filtered by your own personality and views that will, in some way, be unique. And the product of that could be something we might even call authentic.

Hey there! I appreciate your comment. It inspired me to share a bit of my feelings as well. I don't know how many people are going to see this, but that doesn't matter. Basically, I've been gathering different ideas, philosophies, song lyrics and ideas that come from different people. I've been watching videos on stuff like this. I've heard quite a few times already that we are always connected, that nothing is separate, that the "tennis ball" is not a real thing and that we affect each other more than we realize. Yet we still feel the need to create a personality. I've also heard people talk about letting go of this programming/ego/personality/ fictional sense of self, maybe in order to become truly authentic, but I'm not sure if it's actually possible. I haven't tried it for myself yet, so I don't know. We are affected by our past, social and cultural backgrounds, the shows we watched as kids, the ways the people around us talked to us etc. We can't tell what others are really like, we don't even know what we are truly like. But in fact, personality is not fixed. I like to think about it as a collection of data, experiences, feelings, thoughts and memories, as a programming or as rules that we live by. And, as i said, this programming is affected by everything that has happened in our lives so far. These things form us and our personal truths and these truths, these subjective worldviews, may make us unique in a way. For example, when I imagine a house, it probably looks nothing like the house you imagine. My mental picture of a house is definitely affected by the way I drew houses when I was very little. It looks very similar to those drawings. It's affected by my past. You know, my blue is not your blue. But this doesn't make me feel superior or better than others, it only makes me realize that we are still slightly different, and that's just fine! I really like that part of your comment where you talk about "comparing our notes to other people's instead of trying to find the superior one." :) Or maybe, it makes us incredibly unoriginal. We stand on the shoulders of giants, we need to get inspired by others, we learn from them. But those people learnt from other people who learnt from other people who learnt from other people and so on. All these thoughts and ideas in this comment are not REALLY mine. I've heard them many times from other people and decided to "marry" and believe them. Nothing we create is fully original, yet some of us feel the need to be different from others. To be honest, I felt kinda frustrated and lost when I realized that I'm just a product of the past, that I only consume what others say and don't express myself enough. I gotta mention that I'm still trying to get to know myself better, so I'm just trying to find a good place to start. So, if you feel lost or anything, you definitely aren't weird and there's nothing wrong with you. You're not alone in this. We're all on a journey. Now it's up to you to decide whether these things make unique individuals out of us, or if they connect us/take an amount of originality away from us. It's only up to you. A wonderful thing about humans is that they change all the time and make up their little fictional worlds. Life is just a dream within a dream. A beautiful illusion. I think it's amazing how we all grow, get lost, fall and rise. Everything is just fine. I'd like to apologize if this comment makes zero sense or if it's all over the place. It definitely helped me realize some things though. Keep in mind that these are just my opinions and it's totally fine if your beliefs are different. Also, English is not my first language, so feel free to correct any mistakes! And wow, if you actually took time to read this... just wow. Have a nice day y'all! Hello @Natacha Hyuuga, Well when you say to look outside instead of inside I think its wrong because how will you find Real authentic self in the outside, You might find something that the You likes in the outside and will identify with the thing that it likes, but will it still be you if its identified with something found outside? I think your looking outside was a conscious decision of yours (probably based by your experience, looking inside not finding anything and going to look outside) I am just guessing this. So I would say to look inside, but first what is inside? Outside is your body, and the other (people, books, etc.). The mind, thoughts are outside too, here's why, Can you think of something that is new and not seen on the outside (not synthesizing old ideas into new one), an unique new thing that hasn't been thought by others? So everything that is in your mind (what you call inside, but it actualy isn't) is actualy just information from the outside, the movies you play in your mind, the thoughts you think, the music you listen to, is actually things from the outside. So the mind is made out outside things, therefore its still outside. By my understanding (opinion) inside is the foundation of the mind. Something that is You is manifesting your body, and your mind. By mind I dont mean the content of it. Its is someone who recognizes the content. Little jump of thought - when you are you, the you starts making the content of you mind, but also there will still be some other external things that you get from the outside. So in order to reconnect with the REAL YOU, AUTHENTIC SELF, you have to put all things that you know aside, all thoughts everything, not identify with your likes and dislikes, ideas about yourself, who you are, what is your past and etc (you could say past is important because it made you, past was the you, but the You isn't' static and it changes, its fluid). Famous Bruce Lee words - "empty your cup" - how will you taste new tea when you have the old one inside? How will you know "You" when you have ideas of you. And you actually are just identifying with the idea of you, but not being you and thats not authentic. So my opinion you should look inside, but first know what is the inside. By looking inside I say just pay attention, to experience, thoughts and all but don't identify with it, don't hold on it, just let it come and go. I think when you will empty your cup, not identify with things, ideas, etc, you will start to recognize, understand and be yourself. If you look to nature for example you see a flower you see its beauty, you see its uniqueness. The flower is not identifying with idea of the flower its just being, and then you see an authentic flower. Why I say that my opinion is valid. As I tried this practice, letting go of ideas of myself, of my plans, of what are my likes, of what are my activities, I just started to be observe and pay attention. I just letted myself to be nothing in some sense, just being empty, when I achieved that state of being empty, a curiosity in me appeared. It was an impulse (to do a certain thing) a spontaneous action (acting without actualy thinking to do that or not, just gone with the flow). It felt like I wasn't trying to achieve it it just happened, I didn't make the action I just experienced it (it felt really strange) But that action led me to a certain activit that led to one of most profound life experiences - the realization of the self. As I understand it now I would say my subconscious mind putted me in that place without my conscious interference. In that experience I felt like me, I felt bliss, everything started to make sense, what should I do next and what should I pursue, I started too see the wide horizons of possibility. It is one othe most amazing feelings I have ever felt. But do not get me wrong I haven't fully discovered my self yet, I just discovered parts of me. Its an ongoing process. After this experience I had many others, discoveries of self its not onetime experience, because you self is always changing, evolving its not fixated. You need to stay in harmony with that process of becoming and changing, and not identify with wrong things, and learn just to be, let everything come out naturaly don't overthink it, just be. Its tricky cause you can't force it, you need to learn just to be, for it to happen. What led me to this practice of just "being" was philosophy of Alan Watts.

Experience relies on perception and cognitive faculties. So does the ego. If the ego is an illusion so can be the experience. As always there's something intrinsic beyond those limited definitions. Trying to generalise one's own biases always fails. I suspect his ego was speaking when he uttered that statement :D

Taoism solves this problem quite readily. It would argue that the ego and the "self" are simply illusions. There is no self. Humans tend to think of themselves separate from the world, for example man attempting to control nature. Man sees nature as something to harness and control; man does not see nature as something to live with harmoniously.. By considering ourselves as "separate," we create problems. The ego is one of these problems. If man simply sees himself as part of nature, and drops the ego, many of these problems simply vanish.

Very interesting, how does one live harmoniously with nature? is it like how the stoics view the world?
@PP-mb2ky
@PP-mb2ky 3 жыл бұрын
@@yeid44 Humans tend to view themselves as "separate" from nature. But when it comes down to it, we all deeply know (and likely don't want to admit) that we are simply a product of nature. To admit that nature controls us would be a direct confrontation with our egos (In Dostoevsky's Notes from Underground, this is one of the main themes - man vs. nature and is a good psychological analysis). Humans don't want to admit that nature controls us; that's terrifying. So our egos make up the idea that we are in control, but this is obviously an illusion. We can't control earthquakes. We can't control our height. We can't control other humans. We can barely control our own personal thoughts and actions. So, to answer your question, Taoism would argue that WE ARE NATURE; we are not "outside looking in." View yourself as a part of nature, and not as separate or at odds with it; this is the best way to curb the ego. Don't harness the ocean; bathe in the ocean. Don't control the flow of the river; ride with the river. If you want an introductory read to this I recommend Alan Watts' short book "The Book on the Taboo Against Knowing Who You Are." Watts studied eastern religion and philosophy and wrote about it for westerners.

@@depressedteadepressoespres186 Hi Depressed tea. This is an interesting point; I am not an expert, but I have read a bit. I think a Taoist would respond by saying that society creates structures and laws which are unnatural. In the Tao Te Ching by Lao Tzu, he consistently repeats the phrase "wei wu wei." This can be translated into: "Do not do. Doing not-doing. To act without acting. Action by inaction. You do nothing... yet it gets done." (Translation by Ursula K. Le Guin in her version of the Tao Te Ching) The idea of wei wu wei is precisely the opposite of society. Society by definition has structure and law, which is a form of action. Taoism would argue this goes against nature. There are no laws in nature. Laws are simply man-made ideas that exist simply to force people to conform. Nature follows the wind, she does follow the will of humans. The sun sustains life on Earth: no one asks it to. Humans prefer structure and conformity because it is very difficult for us to create our own. People say they want to be "free," but the paradox is they don't TRULY want to be free. If humans were TRULY free, there would be no laws, there would be no government, there would be no money. Since we are not truly free, we need a way to navigate the structures of society. This is where the ego comes in. The ego allows us to separate ourselves from the world. This is where the ego says "I am different." This is where the ego makes its mistake. Taoism would argue that humans ARE nature, and since humans are nature, humans cannot control nature. It would be like a baseball trying to control its own curve. The ocean trying to control its tide. The heart creating its own rhythm. Nothing is separate. Everything is one interconnected entity. The ego is an illusion.

Imitation is a key part of these social animals called humans. When you pick up on the mannerisms of a close friend you are not losing your authenticity, you are mirroring, which helps in traditional social interactions. Just because we can't interact with a celebrity, the instinct won't turn itself off. Don't overthink it it to be a dystopian "cult of personality", party because that's not really what the expression means. The portrayal of purchasable happiness is a problem for sure, but I have a feeling you are washing things together in questionable ways. Advertisers may use our ancient social instincts to maximize profit, but that does not mean that it's bad for me to pick up the sense of humor of my favorite comedian. You will pick up patterns from around you, that does not make you less you. Humans don't exist in a vacuum, expecting everyone to invent themselves from scratch is unrealistic.

I definitely agree, the notion of being authentic is actually related to grandiose goals of leaving footprints behind once we are gone, which is understandable but trying to reinvent the wheel everytime seems to me like the wrong way to go about it. I do think however, that looking inside to find out if the things you are doing are really bringing you joy, ease, and wellbeing in general, or are you regurgitating and repeating patterns that are actually harmful for yourself without you realizing it. I'll give you an example: it has come to me in recent months that I do not like tight clothes. This is seems like a rather vain or superfitial thing to begin with but its actually something deeper. I wore those clothes because as a I embraced the fitness lifestyle I wanted to look leaner or more muscular (having being myself really overweight for most of my teen years) so these clothes that are actually really uncomfortable to me, were just another way that I use to seek validation in a non so healthy way. I actually even downplayed how uncomfortable they were because I wanted to believe I liked them. That little epiphany could not have been possible havent I really tried to dig within myself and "look inside" to see how are my actions reflecting how I feel.

If you have a speech because u enjoy talking, and there’s nothing more important than that and your speech will become “The speech” and only that.

you’re right, my mind is a mess of different forces, swaying my perceptions back and forth. my sense of self identity seems unstable at times. i’m constantly trying to discover different parts of myself and which one is the most “real” or “authentic”. I fell into what i feel like was a bad habit of over analyzing every part of my mind, cultivating my own self instead of letting it flow through and out of me effortlessly. and this is because i was scared and not ready to accept/become aware of/face all of the flaws and “undesireable” parts of me. what helped me and my authenticity is to accept that I am a flawed human being and i don’t know everything. authenticity is something that just exists, it forms itself and is fluid as we change and grow, but we shouldn’t formulate ourselves. this is a really interesting topic that i will definitely think abt more

I really love this video. But, I'm not really sure about the word 'authenticity'. Authenticity is the opposite of illusion, self-deciete, when you say and act what you don't believe, when you are on a path that is not yours. The idea of 'Be yourself' is bad in mainstream since it is used in a context of ignorance and loss to tell: "Just reside on this emptiness". One should in this case try to discover themselves, but this isn't opposite to authenticity; it is anything but. The first step towards self-discovery is to know this path is indeed an individual path, a path of independency, of individuation. As such, it starts with authenticity, of being honest with yourself, of saying that you truly believe and acting what you deem good.

Some concrete advice that I myself have written down after I stopped basing myself upon the general public’s hierachies: 1. Don’t be overtly emotionally attached to celebs (Kpop idols, politicians, Jpop idols, pop artists, etc) 2. Analyze what you like and dissect it into smaller pieces to see what you like THE MOST (I like these songs; let’s find out the similarities and differences: the lead synth? the vocals? chord progression?) 3. Befriend with people who like the same things/are knowledegeable about that thing, so you all can sit down and dissect even more 4. Don’t waste your time on social medias Hope this helps in one way or another! This is such an inspirational video and I hope it reaches more people :)

Robin this was one of the best videos I have seen so far on the subject of authenticity - and you did it WITHOUT resorting to jargon or trying to confuse people. You are right, this matter takes a long time to develop. As I get older, I can appreciate so many different perspectives (even from people whom I usually disagree with). I thnk that the human "self" is not unitary, we are full of multiple contradictions and viewpoints - we can be deconstructed on so many levels. I also agree with you about the danger of falling into the trap of celebrity culture or "herd mentality". Anyway, thanks for your great work.

Very interesting and perceptive. I was doing some research into this not that long ago, so this is really timely. It seems that most psychologists agree that a person is his most authentic between the ages of 9 and 12. Then you have the problem of the brain not fully developing until a person is in their twenties!🤔 Good grief! I personally found that the activities I enjoyed at that young age are the ones that bring me the most joy today. They may be a little more developed (my art has improved and I have branched out into pastels, which I truly adore.) Really enjoyed your video. Thanks so much!👍

I think everyone needs to stop thinking too much and just do it. You'll never learn who you are. You'll never learn why do you do this, but you do. You are an artist. You create art. You are what you do. Creative Process is not logical, but intuitive. No one artist knows why do they create art, but they know it's art, it's music or whatever. Everyone is an artist. Just like Everyone is a Mathematician or a Firefighter. We just need to adapt and proceed the path the way we can, because we can do everything. And we have opinions. Odd or equal, we have it. We need to express and say by ourselves what do we think, even if it's odd or equal.

Similar to this, I’ve never liked the advice of “finding yourself” like what does that even mean. you’re already here right now. I think you have to create the person you want to be not just sit and wait (tried that nothing happened 😂) I also don’t think there’s anything wrong with “borrowing” parts of other ppl and trying them on for size. After all, no one is truly unique we all have our influences. It’s about refining those influences so it’s in line with our values that’ll change over time. If we are a painting then i guess it’s about taking the canvas that has been painted on by our external factors e.g. Society, family friends and trying to mix some new colours new shapes that we can borrow from other artists to create our own beautiful masterpiece. 🖼 I think that overall process perhaps may be how one creates/finds their “authentic self” the way you interpret, refine and filter these external influences is after all unique in and of itself 😊

Summary: the you today doesn’t know what the you tomorrow wants. ===================== Practical tips on how to discover the best version of you: 1. Unplug: do a deep digital detox - this is part of the unlearning process 2. Build relationships: Surround yourself with a close-knit circle of friends who have good habits, similar values, and live well-balanced life - this is part of the learning process 3. Record: Journal, events in your life, habits you currently have, projects you are working on - this is part of objectively knowing who you are right now 4. Post-mortum: evaluate the current habits, time audit, and projects you’ve accomplished - ask, do you like what you are doing, who you are right now? Is is moving you forward in life? Or are there things you would like to change? 5. Re-iterate: Stop the habits, activities, projects you don’t want to do. Re-allot your time to things that would make you a better person, or on things you truly want to do. RINSE & REPEAT

I’ve also found that accepting yourself also means accepting the parts you don’t like. For instance, although I’m not sure if it is actually social anxiety (since I haven’t gone to a mental health professional to get my noggin checked), I have a considerable amount of anxiety when I go out into public. I constantly fear that everyone is looking at me and hates me or pities me for something I’m not even aware of. And while this is not an aspect of myself that I like, I have to accept that it is a part of me. Just like any other emotion, this feeling begs to be expressed. The best I can do at this juncture in time is to express it in a healthy way (i.e. creative writing) rather than let it drive my being.

R.C.Waldin, I am writing without reading the comments so that I am not yet influenced by them. Be-yourself is a quote to not do something just because everyone else is doing it. You are correct in pointing out that to Be-oneself, one must know who he is. Know-thyself is a philosophical quote by Socrates. And yes, being philosophical, it takes years to know-oneself. In contrast, Be-yourself is more of an action-quote rather than a philosophical one. Should I buy a Tesla car because most of my peer group have one? Not necessarily, I have to evaluate my finances, if finances okay, then electricity costs in my area, charging stations, gas prices in my area(don't understand why middle-easterns with cheap gas prices would buy a Tesla), etc. In other words, don't try to keep up with the Jones. In summary, Be-yourself is a practical quote, in contrast to know-thyself which is a philosophical one.

I think the purest form of identity we can get is through examining and representing our relationships within structures, whether that be family, friends, institutions, etc. Looking for material markings of identity- hobbies, music taste, etc- is too contingent on time and place and is subject to gradual shift and erosion over time.

And the only comment i got was "💀" And i panicked and tried to validate why my comment was ok and that i am someone who deserves love just like anybody else even if i have anxiety and don't present like I'm expected to. I'm 20 years old, so the general assumption is I'm a weirdo who lives in a fantasy, and i should get a life. So knowing that is the assumption, the skull translates to social rejection, and that triggers my fight or flight and i get really tense and overanalyze why my life is how it is and why I'm not actually a loser, because I'm too anxious to just take it as a joke. I love myself externally, but internally I'm a mental wreck.

Also, I absolutely need to say this. It's perfectly ok to admire someone and want to be like them. Just so long as the person you're trying to be like, isn't guiding you into a destructive way of living. Emulating someone we respect, whether that person is a celebrity or someone in our community, can teach us skills, values and insight that we wouldn't of known otherwise. Learning from others isn't bad, but it does require us to be responsible for ourselves. Learning information, questioning if it's honest and how it effects us and then using it or putting it aside; has always been our own responsibility. Information and experience are both important parts, of how we build that thing we call identity and neither should be ignored or given more significance than the other. Just as this video teaches us, so can our favorite celebrities or even politicians, if we take the time to question what we're being taught and if that information makes us into better people. Don't cast aside a source of information out of arrogance or pride, because sometimes what looks simple on the outside, can change our lives when looked at closer.

I feel like "no one is truly a self made man". In a sense we all go through series of events that shapes our morals, thoughts and in turn, our personalities. Culture, literature, discoveries, etc. have been passed on to posterity/progeny meaning these future generations really didn't generate anything so much authentic....BUT there's potential for distinction of self that no matter how young or old you are. I feel like we expose oursleves to many perspectives that the world has to offer and use that to synthesize something that's meaningful to us. We also cannot assume that everyone would have the same perception as each other. That in itself is (I think) unique to you.

I'm not sure if I'm being "authentic" to myself, but to be honest, I don't care. This "identity crisis" is too romanticized for me. I'm in a process of self-discovery, and I want to constantly be aware of what I like, what I don't like, and what I do, but I think this is something that will never end because we're always changing. I just do the things that make me happy, I follow celebrities since I'm a really big fan of BTS, of course I'm aware of all the influence they've had in myself, in my behavior, in my way of thinking, and the way I view the world, but as long as I feel I'm happy, I don't think this thing of "authenticity" is a problem to me, in the end, I'm always changing and I'm always in this process of self-discovery. I also stopped comparing myself with society, and this process of self-discovery is something I do for me, to have a better relationship with myself, and not for society. I don't care about showing a real "identity". If you're always looking for something specific, you will never find it, I think is more like a process of mindfulness and learning to be aware, how do I feel? does this really make me happy? and always learn new things and listen (and be open) to new perspectives

Actually I used to be quite stuck overthinking "authenticity", but ever since I quite unexpectedly found a love for BTS (and Kpop in general) I kind of stopped caring wether "my true self was supposed to like a certain thing". BTS are the best and taught me + the world so much! I am really thrilled to find Army under this video and reflecting about the topic. I actually think, that if one doesn't specifically try to be authentic, one is authentic. One should try to develop organically rather than try to find the roots of oneself. And by doing that( kind of "Plant Metaphorically") your roots also develop, and even though you can't see them they make you stronger.

This video reminds me about the philosophy investigation of “being”. As we cannot fully comprehend the “being” of anything, we are just living based on our ignorance and fantasies. As Martin Heidegger mentioned in his book “being and time”, we are just “thrown” into this world with nothing and most people just “fall” into the “everydayness” as we grow up and start to follow the culture and the rules without even thinking about the truth meaning and value. As Heidegger said our true nature is to be authentic, to rise above the “everydayness” and to investigate the meaning of “being” in your life.

I'm glad I found your channel. I feel like I should have learned this from my parents, and even if they tell me a similar message ik it's just hollow and they don't really mean it.

It's like quantum mechanics. As you delve deeper into the microscopic parts of what constitutes your identity as a human being, you will find that the best you can capture about the state of "something" is a probability distribution. In the very same way that you cannot just reach out your hand into some arbitrary quantum system, pull out a particle and be confident in saying: "Here is particle A, caught at position x, with momentum p, at this precise time t." Everything we do in quantum mechanics is ruled by probability. It's not like classical mechanics, which at the heart of it is often dubbed to be deterministic. Continuing with the quantum mechanics analogy, our "wavefunctions" will change and fluctuate and evolve over time.

For some people comparing themselves to others helps them to improve (sort of boost, kick in the butt), so this is not a fit-for-all solution. Generally, speaking for my own search of 'authenticity' I've discovered two things, that help immensely: 1) isolation from your usual environment (family/friends/etc) for an extended period and in best case scenario - change of location. This doesn't mean isolation as in being alone - you can have experiences with new people, but limiting communicating with the people you usually do. I realize this is not a possibility for everyone, but was very helpful to realize which thoughts and ideas were my own and which - from people around me. 2) realizing, that everyone's focused on their own faults and mostly don't notice yours. This, of course, doesn't work very well, if you're a public person, but for the usual commoner - works wonderfully.

You shouldn't stop being yourself in order to please other people, because neither them or yourself will respect you for it. You should only compromise being yourself in order to meer your own needs or morals.

I wish I could like this twice. I've been thinking for about 2 years all by myself and this video aligns very closely with my own conclusions. Except you're so much more well spoken. I was thinking about talking about my findings immediately but I think I should live out my findings for a few years before I do... although I'll be nearly 30 by then. Yeesh! :Z

Bro I’m legit a stitched up version of other people their styles, ideals, interests etc. That doesn’t make me non authentic- it actually makes me authentic because I was brave enough to set out and indulge in cultures and different perspectives to create something new. Like art or literature, your shit always derives from something else, you yourself is a giant bibliography of referenced sources, but the end product is always different- that’s how we become unique: we don’t break the chain or the image of anything in our society, we don’t innovate (because it’s harder with time passing and it’s scary because of social norms) but we create unique works of art within ourselves

You have to take some time to realize all of your emotions and where they stem from, from the best you can understand, and then think about which ones are stemming from opinions or perceived opinions of you. This doesn't mean you know who you are and what you need to do, it's a process of discovery and experimentation. So where are your emotions and why? Think and consider what you should so and synthesize that with what you want to do.

Dude I hope you're not biased against hedonism. When I was younger, in "the heat of the moment" I did a LOT of "higher, more worthwhile" goal pursuits. I'm now 35. I quit my career 5 years ago. The longer I did everything you mentioned in this video, I find out more and more, I'm just a hedonist. Or let me rephrase, I AM a hedonist. It feels very freeing embracing it than ignoring my authentic self. I love being one, and I've tied my new career to being as close to hedonism as I can possibly get. By the way I love your videos. You've earned a subscriber here. This is cliche but I mean it: You should write a book. I'll seriously buy it. Can't wait for it to come out. :)
