Hi guys. This vid's about how to develop a passive/bait & punish playstyle to deal with ridiculous hitboxes. Hope it's not awful!

Unreasonable hitboxes are the source of a lot of suffering in the world, maybe all of it. The next thing about irl Smash, aka boxing or combat sports, is that if someone throws a fist at you, you're not going to suddenly end up behind them flying in the opposite direction of the punch, especially if the punch is still 5 feet away from you. In "Smash" Smash though, we unfortunately didn't have God, who is apparently a pretty good fighting game designer, no, we had Masahiro Sakauri. Faced with this reality, most of accept that Smash hitboxes can be a little stupid. This had me rolling. Great humor, absolutely love this

Things go as you say : since we don't have the tools to impose our playstyle on the opponents, we have to rely on roundabout ways to exhibit some inherently flawed approaches (either by simply reading the opponent patterns at lower level, or conciously lead the opponent to those approaches) then counterplay accordingly. This requires a rough discipline, even at lower levels (where I am myself). That is why I think I am much stronger at games 2 and 3, where my plannings finally get into place yet my opponent still didn't have the time to adapt back. However, what makes Ganon so satisfying is that he will gain a ton from any hit, and can rapidly turn the tide of the battle. The feeling I have when I am finally able to put the game plan I built during the whole set in place, and take a stock / the match, is so wonderful. Maybe even more than wining (at least in matches with no stake). As I tend to focus a bit too much on my mistakes and blame myself for doing them, those micro accomplishment are very helpful for the mental. It shows me that I am capable of growing, even if it doesn't translate into any result. Much more than a victory, which is good because I don't think that self esteem should come from the fact that you are better than someone else.

hey I'd love to spar with you sometime. I tend to be really inconsistent with my skill, don't really have anyone to play with regularly.

@@kfauzi109 Sorry for my late reply. It would be a pleasure, but I am currently not playing the game at all. I don't feel that the reward of playing the game is sufficient compared to the amount of efforts (be it mentally or training) I would have to put into the game to get better. However, you can still get in touch with me (via discord for instance, I am on the french Ganoncord with a very similar nickname). I can still play occasionally if you want. Just be aware that my level at the game is kinda low ^^

A friend of mine who plays Young Link recently pointed out to me that he would preemptively throw out a grab, tilt or shield because he knew I would immediately chase him down with a dash attack (as greninja) and that I could bait and punish these habits with my movement. As soon as I integrated empty hops and dashing forward and back, I would catch him committing to a move much more often and we went more even in our matches. There's so much to this game it's a little dizzying!

Wow....idk if you're into armwrestling but you're 100% the "Devon Larrat" of the Smash Bros world. If you're not into armwrestling and dont know wtf I'm talking about, it's a very big compliment, big'n. 💪

Thanks for the video Vermanubis; great content as usual. I was wondering, does passive play suffer from online settings, because the lag makes it difficult to react to better hitboxes, or is it completely independent?
