#AD | Today we’ve got an epic Beat the Chef Mystery Box Challenge for you, as James and Jamie celebrate the ancient ingredient that is wheat! With an ingredients box full of surprise items, we’ve challenged the guys to create something special to celebrate wheat. But before they get cooking, they’ve got to learn more from the experts about this classic ingredient to really show off what it can do in the kitchen.
They’re cooking up 2 very different dishes, but who will be the winner? Watch and decide for yourself!
You can also check us out Behind the Scenes with the experts here:

It's frequently the issue on these Beat The Chef battles : the normals tend to be simpler (the dishes, not the normals themselves) and more like the dish a regular viewer would have a go at, whilst the chef dishes would be more like something you'd order at a restaurant.

@@dedjderaladin298 Ngl, I have made a lot of the chefs dishes. This one just doesn't appeal to me flavor wise? Has to be good if you go by the reactions, the flavor profile of Jamie's dish is just more my thing. (Also, aren't all recipes by the chefs' hand?)

Ben's puns pair well with James' "rye" sense of humour. Coming up with puns is probably ingrained into Ben's personality. You know James was concerned with the swheatness of the dessert in the overall flavour profile. I apologize if the attempts in this comment are too chaffing. :)

James’ dessert reminds me a lot of a very traditional cake in the US called a Kentucky jam cake. It’s a spice cake with blackberry jam and pecans mixed in topped with a caramel icing and traditionally served at Christmas. This was because historically the only fruits available at Christmas were either preserved in jams or dried and there would often be a plentiful amount of nuts gathered in the fall. I find it very interesting that someone came up with essentially this combination independently.

I somehow celebrate Jamie every time he does so well. If he knows what to do and how to do it he is very organized and his food looks so good. Just from the visuals I would vote for Jamie because his food looks very good and I know what I can expect from his dishes. James recipe sounds really interesting and I really wonder how it tastes. It is relly difficult to imagne from Bens discription how the dish really tastes like (and that is in no way his fault or anything). In the future I would love to see more recipes from around europe. Traditional dishes from all around europe in a three-way battle or something. And not just the usual 5 countries but also the smaller ones or lesser known cuisines. Iceland vs. Estonia vs. Austria or something like that.

I really would like another pass it on episode.... And i know I have been commenting with the idea for a trifle episode, each three layers with minimum height in a big glass bowl, sweet or savory as a pass it on challenge for you..... But I really would like a fun episode, not that I don’t like the educational aspects , but I could really use a laugh.....

I think James’ dish was a great new dish, but with all of the different ways it was used, I think Jamie’s was a better celebration of wheat with the different uses, from a thickening agent, to a pastry, in the beer, and the whisk(e)y.

Spelt flour in the cake (a variety of wheat). Both white and whole wheat in the flatbread. Wheat beer in the caramel. What other grains? Btw Jamie used slightly less flour-he dredged his meat, added some to thicken the gravy, made pastry and rolled his potatoes in semolina. Both dishes looked great, though.

Lance Lindle Lee, okay. Jaime used 2 types of flour and two wheat beverages. James used 3 types of flour and one wheat beverage. Pretty even and 2 great dishes. I'm still not getting the "wide variety of grains" other than wheat referred to by the OP. Because there aren't any.
