Many of the comments really miss the point of this vdo. He is in no way of saying the X100VI is bad (As I can tell from many defensive comments like they are Fuji shareholder). If you watch around 8:00 of the vdo you will know that he is suggesting that the camera is for certain type of people with specific needs. He suggests an alternative which are clearly comparable to the X100VI as they can provide similar results with more flexibility.

Sort of. Only the top two current models have the same high resolution sensor and IBIS. The fixed lens has enough resolution to exploit this. The shutter and inbuilt (tiny) flash are incredibly useful for taking people. It’s very light to carry. Many pros use the X series as their family and friends plus travel camera as it has superb skin tone accuracy out of the box, then it has vast depth of adjustment should it be needed. I’ve shot Canon for decades, own a range of pro film and digital bodies, pro lenses many of which are amazing, as are most canon normal lenses. I also own a Fuji 6x9 film camera and Bronica. Both of those were very expensive to shoot on so the whole experience of composition, when to use a tripod, film stock for the lighting and subject are important. Net result is typically 80% excellent quality - all on Fuji film stock for decades. Hence the VI has many attractions for me. Leaf shutter, lightness, flash sync, film sims, weather proofing and a very sharp lens are the main ones. For the record, I discussed my needs for a forthcoming bucket list trip with a top London dealer, in their shop, the day before the VI came out. He had a very good V in stock at a fair price but advised me to get up first thing and order the VI to ensure I had one, then instead of diving in, not to open the box but have a full system assessment. Then if I want to go another direction, send it back before the end of March for a full refund. That’s service for you. So yes I have one and no I have not used it yet. It’s a difficult decision as the Canon UI is the best there is, far better than Sony, Nikon and Fuji. My little EOSM5 travel system is still excellent and that camera with the 22mm lens technically as good as all the V series up to the V including IBIS for video. However, flash sync, AI face detection, film sims, 6/4k and weather proofing are all absent. If ii was just for travel, there is one superb system that rarely gets mentioned. Olympus has made the best small weatherproof cameras for a long time. Their glass is excellent too as is their VFM. Their new OM1 mk 2 is a brilliant tool and using AI and a tripod can render huge images. I guess for me to go that way with two pro lenses and one fixed is about £4K. That’s twice as much as an X100VI with all the necessary add ons (filters, hoods, batteries, charger, case et al). Which, of course, is back in the Canon Pro mirrorless zone. I guess as a ‘boomer’ who’s into photography since I was a kid in the 1960s there is a real attraction of the simplicity and quality of the VI. Like the 6x9 focus the the image and not the over complex and heavy kits.

I've been shooting a (special edition) XT30 since launch 2019. The only thing missing is weather sealing; the reason why I was having a hard choice between the XT3 and XT30. I decided to go with XT30 because of smaller size and lower weight. I have the Fuji 18mm f/2, the Fuji 27mm f/2.8 and the Samyang 12mm f/2. This pack is extremely small and weighs almost nothing and lets me do what I want. (Or else I adapt vintage lenses for specific purposes and/or looks.) You can pick up an used XT30 in good to perfect state between 500-600 Euros. The cheapest used, modern Fuji camera you can buy. For the XT3 you still have to fork out 800-900 Euros in good state! Used Fuji prices are extremely inflated since their popularity rose.

Delighted to have discovered your channel, Mark. Your presentations are down-to-earth, yet polished, and free of the hype so often encountered in photography videos (and of the stumbly speech patterns and dreadful mic quality or technique that also mar too much of this category). While I've been a Canon EOS user since film days, I've not yet bought into the mirrorless realm, and still shooting as many (non-Canon) film SLRs as I do, the Fuji "traditional" control layouts on such as the XT-1-4 series is a powerful tactile draw should I ever take the step into mirrorless. So, doubly glad to find realistic reports on Fuji's dizzying array of models. Speaking of your presentation and technical quality, curious which mic you are using here. Really nice quality. Thanks!

Another great video Mark. I get why people talk size. I like rangefinder styles because a bump often won’t let you slide other cameras into a lens pocket. It’s also what defines this look for me as well. People buying this probably aren’t even using a camera bag, and perhaps it’s sometimes the Leica rangefinder look rather than a Fuji look that they actually dig. I’m a Sony person, but really like the styling of all these cameras you’ve featured. I love “Eterna” when I see it as well lol.

Unfortunately, I balked on buying the V just before the hype and missed out. Now it looks like the VI is going to be backordered for months as well due to the continued hype. Too bad many/most of these X100 cameras would sound up with users who won't be taking advantage of the camera's full capabilities beyond the look and form factor, while doing snappy snaps. Yes, sour grapes indeed. Looks like I'll have to wait for the X100 Lucky 7, and carry my ND 16/32/64 filters meantime. Happy shooting everyone, regardless of your gear.

I would recommend an x-e series camera or an x-pro series camera. I prefer the viewfinder on the side so that is why I never purchased an xs or xt line camera while searching for an x100v. I wound up buying an x-e4 and an x-pro3 and now have an x100vI. Loving the x100vI but I will always have an interchangeable lens Fujifilm camera for my Viltrox 75mm and 27mm lenses. The OVF on the x-pro and x100 series is fantastic. I totally agree that if you want to get into photography, the x100 series is not the best starting point. I found this channel while searching for lenses for my x-e4 and it’s crazy how different the shooting experience is when changing lenses. I realized that I prefer the 85mm and 35mm focal ranges more so than 50mm but I wouldn’t have realized that with a fixed lens camera. Did I mention that I am a Sony shooter? Beware the GAS.

You always have a great way of explaining these decisions Mark. Nice job with this video. As someone like you with several cameras I often take my Fuji X-E3 with the 27mm 2.8 over my X100v, because the X-E3 is much lighter and smaller than the x100v. I find myself using the x100v as a family snapshot camera it seems to excel at this, especially with the built-in flash. I find 23mm very boring for creative uses. If the XT bodies I feel the X-T3 has the best build quality and feel in the hand. The textures and feel of the dials is better than my other XT bodies. So I would vote X-T3 as the best budget XT to get.

Taking most of the latest videos on the X100VI at face value is missing the point. Most are simply riding the wave of current X100 hype hoping to cash in on the monetization of having X100VI in the title without giving any really useful information. It is a ridiculous size comparison to use the pancake 27mm on body and not the 23mm 2.0 which matches the X100 lens and say both cameras are about the same size. (Note that the 23mm f2.0 is actually inferior to the x100V/VI lens because it gets soft and blurry in macro closeups whereas the X100V+ does not). The devil is in the details and a 40mm field of view from the 27mm is VERY different from a 35 fov from the 23mm. They are not interchangable!
@j2thebee
@j2thebee 3 ай бұрын
@@yohan2437 totally agree with this point, I shoot with the xt20 and the 27mm a lot and the size is great but that 40mm field of view is not great, I would definitely prefer a 23mm pancake, as you say the 23mm 2.0 is way bigger!
@annekedebruyn7797
@annekedebruyn7797 3 ай бұрын
@@andib1712 I don't think that's the case. You can just buy a pancake prime lens and be done with it. Actually, many people just buy one or two primes and just let it live on the camera. It has never been about the amount of choice or carrying gear. People like the x100 series because it's a compact point and shoot that handles like a film camera. It just makes for a better EDC experience which isn't the case for most mirrorless cameras which are too big especially if you want to add in a flash and ND filters.

I believe the retro appeal of the X100 series is based on it's visual similarity to the Leica M series and other cool-looking rangefinder cameras of the past. And it's a fraction of the price of a Leica. The other cameras you mentioned don't share those looks but resemble the newer generation (SLR's) that made rangefinders obosolete.

Not about Hype, what makes the x100vi interesting is the better autofocus (which to me is not a minor issue) and the built in ND Filter, which the xt30 neither the xs20 have. The x100 normally is for people which already have cameras, and wanna have a run and gun system. I shoot canon, but for on the go without bringing anything else, I am fine with the x100xi. So yes, you are right, you can get more lenses and better screens (xs20), but to have one run and gun I do see still some advantages for the X100, as you as well pointed out. And there’s not too much competition out there, actually. Would love to see a canon g1x mark iv, or a Sony zv-1 mark iii with apsc. That would be exciting. Thanks for your thoughts, cheers

I never really understand fixed focal length cameras. If you want fixed focal length then just go out with a single lens. Then the next day you can go out with a different lens and have a whole different experience. For myself I sometimes do that but mostly set out with a fast 50 mounted and carry a compact 20 and 85 in pockets or on a belt. Is the fixed lens idea coming from some sort of ideological purity drive?

Dial in film simulation, put settings to auto and you're good to go. Much to your point, I have several Nikons and a Ricoh GRIIIx yet I still picked up the X100VI. My Nikon’s suit the more professional aspect and while the Zf is a retro powerhouse, it’s still a bit larger and even more so depending on the lens choice. The Fuji really surprised me and after running it through just a simple street shoot to get a feel for it side by side to my Ricoh… I love it all the more. I bought the Nikon Zf because I missed the simple old school shooting experience sans film. The Fuji delivers the same in a more compact and yet still very capable form factor. iPhones are ~26mm equivalent, so moving to 35mm is quite the adjustment. I had an X-T5 that was stollen, and am now using an X-T30II. The X-T5 was amazing. IBIS and the 40MP sensors were magic. I miss it a lot. I like smaller cameras, so stuck with the XT30II. What is great about the X100VI is that it is a smallish fixed lens camera with OVF, IBIS, and a faster processor that allows "clarity" and other image adjustment to be used and not slow down the camera a lot between shots. It is quite the game changer from the V and significant jump from the XT30II I'm using.

Very good video. Personally I love the creative film simulations in Fuji and the X Mount Lens System has many great user friendly cameras. Personally I prefer interchangeable the lens options but generall prefer to travel light. Choose a prime for the day or travel and enjoy the travel experience. You might also consider travel zoom if you ok with the extra 1/2 lbs plus of weight and size. The other important feature for me is IBIS. The XS20 is a phenomenal camera as was the predecessor XS10. YOU CANNOT FIX A BLURRY IMAGE. Some compositions have slower shutter speeds especially when you’re stopping down the aperture. This is why of the choices you highlighted the XS20 has all the features for me. IBIS is important especially if your using a heavier zoom. Additionally you have a deep grip for comfort when using a wrist strap for walking around or stabilization. The X 100VI is too limiting for me the Sony RX100VII is a much better alternative. Buy the interchangeable lens options from Fuji either new or used there are some great mirrorless options. The last comment is regarding buying inexpensive 3rd party lenses is the issue that they do not Auto-Focus. That for me is a deal breaker. My eyesight does not allow me to focus well thru the viewfinder or screen and therefore I am dependent on auto focus lens options.

I’m looking to get deeper into photography and want something better than my current iPhone 14 Pro Max. Don’t want to carry all the different lenses around when traveling and heavily considering the X100VI. I also need something to record long video (15-30min) of indoor racket sport clips to trim for highlights, and currently use my phone for that. The phone does a good job in terms of battery and quality for the video recordings but I’m wondering if there is a camera that can fulfill my specific need for easy point and shoot travel shots AND some video recording (without much editing). Current thoughts are: keep the iPhone for video recording, get the X100vi for the photos and some short video clips. Another option is to get something like a ZV-e1 for video and photo, and learn to properly edit but would need to get a better laptop + lenses (more costly and time consuming). It is anything but a point and shoot, and people who use it that way are not taking full advantage of it. It's completely wrong to call it a point and shoot. But I think you're right about having an extra camera. My main is an X-H1, I love it but it's huge. I got lots of spare batteries, and I need IBIS for my shaky hands. It's a perfect pair for me now. Also my first camera I spent my own money on brand new was the X100t, and this was my upgrade to that one. The IBIS was huge for me, but it all comes back to just how nice and useable the camera is.

The XT30 II has No IBIS, No Weather Sealing, Half the resolution, Older sensor (4th Gen), No built-in ND filter, No unlimited video length. X100VI adds all these. @richardhale9664
@richardhale9664 3 ай бұрын
It's not half the resolution, more like 75 to 80%. You need to calculate resolution on a linear basis to get the true difference. That's the way our eyes work. The manufacturers highlight the MP numbers to boost the marketing. As you can get excellent 18"X12" prints even from old 12MP sensors the resolution argument is a bit weak for any modern camera comparison. You do loose a bit of DR with the newer sensor, but not a lot, due to its higher MP count. So it's all a bit swings and roundabouts as far as the sensor capabilities are concerned. Is $600 bucks extra for the OVF, IBIS, leaf shutter and dubious benefit of weather sealing worth it when set against the lens limitation? Debatable. If one considers what the camera is likely to be used for most - street and travel, where IQ is not the most important feature - one can look outside of the Fujifilm system to M4/3 and options expand quite a bit.

I typically divide additional MP by two as they are spread across 2-dimensions@@richardhale9664 . For the X100VI the extra MPs are put to use using in-camera cropping to give the user different FOVs. I've a couple of Lumix M43 cameras but we having nothing like the X100V/VI currently being sold by Panasonic. M43 are typically feature-rich, button-rich and provide bang-for-buck.
