This pair of Red Wing boots were worn out! The leather was dried out and cracking, and the original soft soles were wearing down. In this video, we take these boots completely apart and give them the works...new insoles, welts, different Vibram rubber soles, and we condition these with Huberd's Oil. After we finished, these Red Wing boots are ready for years of wear!

So just some feedback on the Huberd’s that I forgot to mention in the video. I applied 2 coats of it, allowing the first coat to dry for 24 hours per the instructions on the can. The oil did not darken the leather as much as the Huberd’s Grease does. The uppers, as you can see in the video, were still brown, and some of the very worn spots on the leather accepted the oil but didn’t darken at all.

That is a red wing supersole. It is a direct attach foam injection process with a hook welt. It absolutely can be resoled by Red Wing at the factory on the same machines that put the original sole on the boot when built. In my 11 years working with a red Wing I have had literally thousands of these boots factory resoled. My own boots have gone through the process multiple times. You guys do great work and I’d be happy to have you work on my boots. I respect the craft and art. Stay Gold.

Redwing 2233’s! These are an example of their USA made work boots, they used to have multiple options of these, insulated, unlined, steel toe, soft toe, etc. now they have sort of limited their USA made work boots but there’s still a few gems out there, these have a version of the super soles on them, they’re almost like direct mold injected type soles, sort of like the old Vietnam era jungle boots but with softer polyurethane type material. I’ve had a few pairs of these and I’ll tell ya those supersoles ain’t no joke, I had a pair last 3 years of almost everyday wear, I had redwing resole them and got about 3 more years out of the boots, after that they were trash. I have been wearing the redwing model 953 for about 6 months now, sort of like these in the video but with a smoother sole and soft toes. I may send them into these guys for a rebuild when needed, But idk, those darn supersoles are surprisingly durable and slip resistant. Great rebuild video.

I have a pair of redwing work boots. The sole was falling off. I took it back to redwing and they said something was broken and they could not fix it. This was 5 or 6 years ago. I took them to a shoe fixer place in Murfreesboro and they put new soles on them. I hope they did as good a job as you all did. I wonder if I ever bought another pair of work boots what a good quality brand would be.

Had this exact pair of boots left behind by my late grandfather. They were still brand new and in the box. I was the only one that wore his size. Ended up building several houses wearing them and starting my own different business. They were completely falling apart by then. Good boots. Weren't my favorite just had a lot of sentimental value.

I've never used the oil! Huberd's Shoe Grease, as well as Havana Gold and Black Gold, are absolute staples though and probably my favorite conditioner to use. Love the smell, love the color it puts back into old leather, love how hungrily the leather soaks it in, just fantastic. As a bunch of folks have already said, you *do* need to be careful with it darkening leather; I only use it with black boots, work boots, or whenever potential darkening is not an issue for the client.

Shoe oil is awesome. I leave the leather on a hot hot hot place (front porch, closed up vehicle, shed, or garage) before applying it, put it back so it soaks, leave it overnight, and do a second application the next day to really soak it in. It’ll change color, but it’ll last! (Edit) just seen y’all’s comment. Ha! I guess I’ve been doing it right all these years.

Nice job. That type of Redwing construction has a problem that is sometimes irritating and embarrassing. They squeak. It doesn’t matter if you dry them on a boot dryer, and keep them clean and oiled, they squeak. Sometimes one, sometimes both. Of coarse you know the old saw that goes “if your boots squeak, you haven’t paid for them”. Hopefully, your rebuild will be squeak free. Thanks for the video. Take care.

I haven’t ever used the oil, and can’t safely say I would, however I swear by the grease for my pair of nicks builder pros, I generally just apply one coat as they’re a rough out leather, but I do put it on fairly thick, and the only issue I’ve ever had with them leaking is the one time I got caught in the rain after a clean, and before the next coat of grease
