In this video, we take a pair of Made in America Origin boots, and we give them a makeover. Origin boots is partially owned by former Navy Seal, author and podcaster, Jocko Willink. We take this pair of boots apart and give our opinion on the quality of this brand. These particular boots are used to travel the world by the KZfaqr JD Huitt from The History Underground. He wanted a little more comfort on explorations, so that's what we tried to give him. Time for another restoration!

My dad always used sno seal on his boots. He'd place them in a warm oven, cracked open, for about 15 minutes. Take them out and apply sno seal. I used it yesterday on a leather laptop briefcase, using a heat gun to warm the leather. Soaks right in. I prefer it over most other products. You can even apply it to axe handles, if they're bare wood. I use 3 that I've done that to. The wood soaks it up when heated.

WOW!! Talk about flashback! 60+ years ago, while in high school, one of our hangouts was a local cobbler. I can't count the number of shoes I watched him rebuild. Here in New England, shoe manufacture was a prime industry. Watching you use the tools to rebuild those boots was amazing! The company that built those boots has facilities about 20 miles from me. Thanks for the trip down memory lane!!

I bought my Origins around the time they started, had a lead time for the Covid stuff so I waited a bit. They are a heavy boot , I got their whiskey logger and I work heavy construction in Hawaii, so lots of lava work , Hawaii tends to tear boots to shreds. These boots are very comfortable, provide a bunch of ankle support, waterproof, haven’t had a wet sock once and I live in tropical rain forest conditions. They squeak a bit when I walk, it’s likely the vibram sole, only notice it when in the store on a slow day, otherwise, highly recommend these to guys who want a boot to last at about $400

Good to see them holding up quite well, so far for him! I'm glad you guys specified at the end whether he was using the insert or not, because my biggest question was going to be how well the Poron insole was holding up. I guess I'll be a good use case scenario for mine as they wear to see how well the Poron holds up, since I had to remove my inserts and am rocking just the Poron because my feet are so wide. It was the only way I could personally do to get these boots to fit comfortably for my own foot shape. Now that they're nearly fully broken in, I'd probably be able to go back to the insert as far as the width is concerned, but it just ends up putting my heel up too high too, so it really doesn't seat in the heel counter properly when inserted. Even just with just the Poron insole, they're extremely comfortable. I'd estimate I only have about 20-25 miles on mine so far in the couple months I've owned them, but the Christy outsole is wearing even better than I thought too. I think for the money, they're really tough to beat, which is exactly why I purchased them! Thanks for highlighting them, dudes!!!

@TrentonHeath
@TrentonHeath 8 ай бұрын
We see this comment A LOT on every single video, and I think what most people in todays world don’t understand is that really good shoe cobblers in today’s society are like classic car restoration specialists. Most people are not driving old classic cars, and most people would ask “WHY would anyone want to spend tens of thousands of dollars on an old beat up car when they can go buy a new one?!” Well, it’s because the owners of those cars, or shoes/boots in this case, LOVE that particular pair and don’t want to throw them away and get a new pair. That’s what the world tells you to do nowadays. What Heath and I do in our videos is often times above and beyond what most cobblers would do to a shoe. It’s the little intricate things that make the difference, and that’s why shoe aficionados want to send their stuff to us and some others. I have a 65 Mustang that is a straight six cylinder and wouldn’t be worth 20k if it was brand new, but I’ve had that car for 30 years and would gladly drop 30k into it one day if needed so that I could hold on to it and pass it along. Long answer but that’s why people often pay to have them resoled. I think this question deserves a video. 😁

The ability of having a boot re-crafted is exactly why I picked up my first pair of RW Mock toe boots. I understand that there are many good boot manufacturers out there, I was just tired of throwing money and shoes away and wanted a quality boot to last for years. The Mrs. even found a pair of Thorogood work boots at a local flea market for nearly nothing and I recently had those re-crafted and Ive reconditioned the uppers. This has lead me to get a pair of Alden 405's, so I am using these boots as intended, work boots. Clean, condition, rinse and repeat. Sustainability and longevity is my new motto, so thank you Trent and Heath!! @@TrentonHeath
