The Beating Retreat Ceremony signifies the end of the military working day.
It involves parading and mounting the guard, an inspection, musical troop, an advance and review order, firing of rifle volleys, an evening hymn, drum beatings, and music playing as the New Zealand flag is lowered.\
The guard is formed from the ranks of the New Zealand Army and RNZAF Base Ohakea, commanded by Major Chris Wilson, Royal New Zealand Engineers. The band is the New Zealand Army Band; Director of Music, Major Graham Hickman; Drum major, Staff Sergeant Tristan Mitchell.
