That's wonderful such beautiful playing. I used to play trombone and euphonium at school (up to grade 5 level). Wished I still played. The consolation is that I can watch and listen to the beautiful playing of the military bands on KZfaq.

You don't want to see what has become of the German armed forces... our defense minister now addresses his soldiers as "soldieresses and soldiers", and they use broomsticks for vehicle-mounted machine barrels during exercises, because there aren't enough real barrels to go around. I was in the audience as well , 21 years old and on holidays visiting the old country and relatives , It was unforgettable and incomparable.

They died like most traditions are dying nowadays.

I was seated in the front row at the North end. I was with the RAF & had an Army buddy who invited me to this magnificent once in a life time extravaganza.

Do you know the name of the man leading this band? He was ahead of all & commanded the band. ?

Well that’s over 40 years ago. Some in their 20’s & 30’s are hopefully enjoying their Golden years. In their 70’s or about 80.

I have to agree. I've been in marching bands and I just love watching them. The beating retreat video from 2018 of the Royal Marines is probably the best.

Also three canadian bands were there.That's why we can see the canadian flag.

I am a former Artillery Corporal of the Chilean Army and at home I have a several records with British marches, and the ones that sound in this video are very familiar to me Greetings from Chile !

True, but amalgamation & disbandment has been going on for centuries. Still a sad event.

But not to the extent that it has in recent years, the army is the smallest its been since Napoleon times.

Back in '81, it was even different because some Regiments had bands at the level of the Battalion, while most of the Corps had several bands each. I have watched the above many times since the '80s but from the perspective of 2024 it just looks like a different world. A gigantic band like the above is almost like a super-organism. The way that sound sways and rocks backwards and forwards! Presumably the sound in the centre was truly deafening. But in general what we see is awesome in the truest sense ... and it's easy to wonder if they are doing it as much for themselves as for us!

@@sidpheasant7585 Yes it was deafening in the centre and no musicians were wearing ear plugs! As you say a different world, the army bands of 1961 or 1951 could have not fitted into Wembley Stadium. Many don't realise that when talking about the past, but not you

@@Joe-fe4xi It's now the Corps of Army Music whose members wear different uniforms of certain regiments. When they take off the dress uniform of say a guards regiment, they put on their corps beret and stable belt, so not quite the same but, still talented lads and lasses.

lee Adams Well, only the regular bands are under CAMUS, every regiment still has a regimental band (some have multiple) within their reserve component.

Unfortunately all gone now.

Splendidly performed no other than the HM Forces are committed to such a brilliant Precision.

I am American and I have never seen so many bands play together like this since the Queen's 50th Jubilee. Not then did they play all together. Wonderful. All America loves Wembly Stadium the biggest holding something like 80 thousand people. Incredible. My fav. was Queen @ Wembly filled that place up to overflowing. Yes they did. Over twenty minutes for the opening?? Come on. WoW

Love military music..my girl was 1st girl in NzArmy band. Now I find a chap called Godfrey was well know as a military music arranger..must be in the genes. Who can resist. Music with uch a beat. I was Blower of tenor horn in a Navy band. Love this clip..thank you so much

The regimental badges on that field represent a lot of history sadly swept away by a vile politicians pen a few years later .

I spend most of my life determined not to be captured by nostalgia. We need to live for the present. But knowing that virtually all of these bands have now gone (including even such "basics" as Royal Engineers, Paras, Royal Signals, RCT, and even Royal Artillery - the oldest of all) makes what was once a thrilling spectacle just plain sad.

Wembley was always an Army show although the RAF and Royal Marines took part in 1977 , Silver jubilee year.

@@alvindurochermtl I hadn't realised that! At first, I thought it was the tri-service event that the Marines and RAF were involved in too but can't see any sign of the other services.

@@ronyoung26 Unless you have served in the Canadian Forces it would be hard to tell. Our full dress No.1 uniforms are basically the same as you have in the British Army as our regiments are all affiliated with UK regiments.

Just to correct you, three military bands from Canada were included in this spectacular show...and we Canadians are so very proud.
