Beaumaris Castle, located on the Isle of Anglesey in Wales, is one of the most outstanding examples of medieval military architecture, often considered the pinnacle of Edward I's campaign to conquer Wales.
The castle is renowned for its symmetrical concentric design, featuring a sophisticated "walls within walls" structure. This layout includes an outer wall with numerous defensive towers and an inner wall with even more formidable fortifications, creating multiple layers of defense. The castle's entrance is protected by a substantial gatehouse, a fortified dock for supply ships, and extensive water-filled moats.
Despite its impressive design and advanced defensive features, Beaumaris Castle was never completed due to financial constraints and changing political priorities. Nevertheless, the existing structures remain remarkably well-preserved.

This is probably one of the best and ultimate castles to visit that Ive seen, it shows what a castle is meant to be a truly well designed layout. Thanks for the tour!

You have a knack of binging the 'ruins' back to life with your amazingly professional and informative commentary. A very pleasant voice to listen to. I am in awe of the size of this castle, the walls and size of the rooms. Never hear about the architects of these monstrous large creations. How absolutely fascinating. Hi Alessa & Brett! Another magnificent Welsh castle. A castle within a castle - wow! Invaders would have found it quite a task to penetrate all those defensive obstacles. Alessa and Brett amazing premiere today...this is one impressive castle and your research as always is amazing. It's mammoth size taken from above makes you wonder what it must have been in it's heyday...seeing it today I wonder what it would be like living next-door to such a historic place and wonder what ghosts linger in the walls and grounds...Outstanding is what comes to mind in what you have done here today...thank you for all your hard work, it's always appreciated and makes my Sunday's worth getting up for!

What an incredible place. Been to many castles in Wales but don’t think I’ve ever been to that one. I can understand why it wasn’t finished when you hear of the amount of stone mason and building materials needed. What a shame though it wasn’t finished because at its full height it would’ve been massive and so impressive which it already is

Hi guys! Really enjoyed your Welsh series so sad this is the last! What a shame this wasn’t finished! Nice design but looks quite short and stumpy compared to some 😂 As always superbly narrated with fantastic history! Your brain must be a sponge Alessa! We have a question? Thanks so much for this wonderful tour! We are headed to Wales later this week, first north and then south. We know we are going to Conwy Castle 🏰 but aren't sure which other ones to visit. This definitely has piqued my interest in Beaumaris. Well done!👍 XX Dara

Hiya Dara, If you're heading up North, I'd honestly recommend Beaumaris 1000x over the castle and the town is exceptional! but also along the North Coast, a trip to Caernarfon and Harlech has to be on the list ( Both Edward 1st's excellent castles ) some other spots we think are Llandudno for the wonderful Great Orme and seaside (near to Conwy) and through Snowdonia they have some beautiful villages like the Cotswolds, one called Beddgelert and Capel Curig that I would recommend as I know you love your villages. As for the South, I know you've been to a few sites already but Castle Coch has to be on your list, I think you will LOVE the place, it's very fairytale like and beautiful. Other places I'd say are worth visiting would be Raglan Castle near Caldicot Castle too and Carreg Cannen. I hope that helps a little bit... and of course we cant wait to see it, but we've done quite alot of the South to be honest, with Wales we have a real soft spot for the place! @@MagentaOtterTravels This is true! South Wales has so much wildlife! I believe they toured towards Penmon Point lighthouse that was were the majority of Puffins were, but they also saw various birds and seals! 🦭When we revisit Anglesey we're doing the boat tour! :)
