Played my husband's most favorite song for him at his funeral in 2013, Simple Man. A conversation between a son and his mother. Her being so much older and not into southern rock at all, I gave her the background to the song before it played. His brothers knew what they were about to hear, them being close in age. My husband requested this be played at his funeral and I gave him his request. A lot of the older generation did not know the band or the song, however, I pray they got the message. My husband died of stage 4 small cell lung cancer at 53 yrs young. 2013. I still and will continue to miss him. Thank you. Bhip.

The band is Lynyrd Skynard. The named themselves after a high school gym teacher they had in Jacksonville, FL. Ronnie Van Zant, he was killed in a plane crash in 1977 with other members.

My favorite band, bar none. Ronnie Van Zant is the lead singer. There is no Lynyrd Skynyrd, per se, but they had a gym coach in school named, Leonard Skinner. This coach enforced the no long hair school policy, and was getting these guys sent to the principals office. They would get expelled frequently, and Gary Rossington finally just quit school. The band name is kind of a “finger in the air” to Coach Skinner.

One of the best southern rock bands of the 70's. They will forever be iconic for their guitar solo in "Free Bird" And it really should have been your introduction to their music, I would suggest their live performance "Lynyrd Skynyrd - Free Bird - 7/2/1977 - Oakland Coliseum Stadium (Official)" two of the reasons this concert is so iconic is first because of this legendary guitar solo. I believe this solo is ranked number 3 on Guitar World Hit List of the 100 Greatest Guitar Solos of All Time. And secondly, this concert was on July 2, 1977 and this was only three months before their tragic plane crash that took the lives of Ronnie Van Zant, Stevie Gaines & backup singer Cassie Gaines RIP:💔🔥U R Missed I'm so glad your enjoying these wonderful songs. Yeah man that is pretty fucking interesting. Ronnie just shows so much soul on this. It's amazing. Man I grew up with this shit but I'm old man. I remember people even that in bands that I played with which I played in bands my whole life mostly. Their kids would suddenly get into this. In fact it became a phenomenon and when they went to like band camp and stuff like that that we never had growing up? This was a common one that a lot of kids want it. And surprising I would also say the ramones. How weird is that? It's so strange to see a jump Generations just means that it must have meant something at some point thank you for your actions man I think they're great.
