Multiple beautiful, extremely photogenic tornadoes documented crazy close on May 4th, 2022 in North Texas. For almost 4 hours and a lone supercell spawned tornadoes and dazzled chasers from Southwest of Paducah to Crowell to near Vernon TX along a snaky 81 mile track.

**NOT FOR REBROADCAST**
The horrible road network over big country didn’t prevent chasers from capturing beautiful images as the low precipitation, high based storm offered spectacular views from even miles away. But later that evening as the storm tapped into an even more volatile atmosphere downstream,
chasing conditions abruptly became extremely dangerous as tornadoes swallowed wind turbines. The town of Lockett along with several chasers were impacted by a large rain wrapped EF3 tornado. This is my account of this incredible storm.
Watching this video, you might be amazed at the wind turbine’s strength and durability while taking direct hits from an EF1 tornado. If you look closely you can even see the blades bending and flexing in the strong winds. Also to prevent damage, wind turbines automatically cut-off when wind speeds exceed 55 or 65 mph depending on the unit.

I absolutely agree but would like to add weather & tornado scientist & teacher, & post-tornado provider of assistance & comfort to those traumatized physically, mentally, emotionally , or fiscally by the storms & tornados effects. Pecos Hank’s been my hero ever since I discovered him storm chasing on KZfaq when he was not much more than a teenager & I hadn’t received my first Social Security check. It’s great to know that even after I’ve been rewarded w/ a Walker, IV standard to haul behind me, & a C-PAP machine, I can still go Storm Chasing w/ Pecos Hank. Thank you for being you & using your many gifts to inform & teach others!!!

I love this guy for his laid back, but very professional approach to his chosen vocation. I love his empathy with the local wild life and his concerns for the impact of these storms on not just the local population, but also the local infrastructure and I would have loved to have been on a storm chase with him. Unfortunately I’m a bit creaky for that now but I still have the love of observing wild weather, having spent most of my working life in the Merchant Navy I have experienced much of what is on offer out there, from China Sea Typhoons, Caribbean Hurricanes, Winter round Cape Horn, any old time round Cape of Good Hope, North Pacific Winter and not forgetting the close to home North Sea in Winter. However Tornadoes are so dynamic and dramatic they are visually and viscerally something else entirely. More power to your elbow Hank. Keep on tracking and following your life philosophy.

That’s normal actually that windpower plants shutdown when the windspeed exceeds a definied limit. This mainly due to constrains in physics like centrifugal force acting on blade hub (blades get ripped apart and flung away). There are some videos on yt where one can see what happens when a turbine overspends.

There is a lot to love about Pecos Hank. As already mentioned his style of story telling, he has a big heart ❤️, always on the look out for anyone injured by the tornado he just chased. He loves all kinds of critters, Turtles 🐢, Frogs 🐸 and even snakes🐍. He's funny, kind & a good storm chaser. I should mention he's pretty good at playing guitar, what more could anyone ask for?, Pecos Hank is the Best!

The way that tornado at 5:46 looks like it doubled back is what makes me extremely nervous when I watch some of these other storm chasers on youtube, who seem to disregard just how dangerous and unpredictable these things can be. I love how you always respect the beauty & danger and keep your distance. He's also learned a thing or two about getting too close to them, too. I think it was the Dodge City, Kansas tornadoes that had twins then triplets that he got too close to one day. Just the sound alone of those tornadoes was absolutely hypnotic. I think that was May 24, 2016.
