You're exactly right, and that's really valid point. Sure, some people do tan drastically, but this clearly isnt a tan because it changes from day to day. She switches to a deeper skin tone when it suits her, or she thinks it looks fashionable. That's not ok.

I’m from Saudi Arabia where our sun is really strong I don’t get THAT dark yes we get reddish tanned skin or brownish tan but not darker than that. Nikita is really dark when it comes to her tan spray.
