🙋🏼 ABOUT ME: Hi guys! My name is Alyona. I was born in Russia. I'm a musician. And I love art, makeup, fashion, style and beautiful environments. I love playing with makeup and fashion, but at the same time, I’m quite a minimalistic person. I don't like the idea of being fixated on the body too much. More like pretentious. Nothing she has said is correct, really. Obviously people wear different things today then they did before. But so what? The beautiful women of the 1950's, or the 1970's would still be considered beautiful today, and so would the ugly ones be considered ugly. Look at Audrey Hepburn; Still beautiful by todays standard. Look at farrah Fawcett; Still beautiful by today's standard. Beauty is not a social structure, but a product of evolution.

She is talking about beauty standards in different times, and trying to make the case that completely different things were considered beautiful in different times, but the truth is that what we consider beautiful comes from evolution and nature. Not society. Ayudrey Hepburn, Marilyn Monroe, Farah Fawcett would be considered beautiful at any time, and no one would think they were out of style or any nonsense like that. And remember, Marylin Monroe was very slender in the waist, and certainly was not what people call curvy today. She is simply wrong. If Marylin Monroe was twenty years old today she could be an actress just like she was in 1950.

ONe thing she has done for me (thank you) is she has made my 38-30-40 inch body feel terrific to me. I have a basic hourglass but my hips I always felt looked huge when I was younger ..hah hah hah....I now have SMALL hips thanks to Kim and all the silly women getting hip and butt implants...now I feel perfect so thanks to silly them!

I have exactly the same story. I always felt that my hips are too wide (hourglass, but maybe slightly leaning to pear). Now I feel that my hips are just fine

Random I was referring to a definate problem we had in the 1980s. And yes the statement was “you can’t be to thin or too rich” anorexia and bulima were rampant, as a way for young women to control their worlds. It was a look. You knew who was because of their wrists and clavicles. And the deep blackness under the eyes no matter how much makeup they wore. I almost lost my sister and my wife went through it. We were in high school together. The statement wasn’t meant to be taken as insulting. Edit: our hair was way big too!

@@mariasmith2198 I think a good point was the protesting group. Really what it tells us is that, rather unfortunately, our bodies are loudly trends in beauty. Some clothing trends are better on some than others to accentuate your best features. But don't fret! Your fabulous finds may come in handy again when you're older. Edit: If you stay true to yourself and exude confidence you'll be much more accepted than chasing a trend you don't feel yourself in.

Girl please don’t give in into that! You don’t need to look exactly the same as them instagram girls or ‘models’, with duck lips and no uniqueness, they look all like some kinda factory dolls with those artificial features. Embrace your natural beauty instead! Find a way to enhance it and to highlight it, trust me you will feel much better about yourself then and it would create uniqueness.

Don't do it hun. First of all, their lips make them look like clowns. If any of you watched Glee in your childhood, remember Santana's Trouty Mouth? Even that song would be too embarassed to be associated with such huge lips, and we're talking about Glee. Secondly, try delving into things like addiction, and educaate yourself about what things are made of. Like my comment above says, botox is for example a toxic bacteria. Also look at how the first generation that used plastic and cosmetic surgery has aged. They have not faired well.

Some of us have no beauty to celebrate. Nice words are, well, nice. And the person saying them obviously intends to be kind. But the hard truth of life is that some people are just plain ugly and short of reconstructive surgery there is nothing that they can do about it. It's a fact, and sugar coating it with phrases like "your own beauty" or "your own style" does not change a fact. If these influencers really believed the feel good hokum they espouse they wouldn't post thousands of videos on make-up and clothes and other products which are designed to CHANGE how you look, and they wouldn't be trying to teach you how to use these things to alter your appearance. They do so because deep down even they know that there are standards for beauty and if you don't meet them, you're ugly. That's it.

@@Serenadesong clothing and makeup is used to complement us and not change us though. clothing can't make your face more beautiful, not even makeup (unless exaggerated). I don't remember anytime that I caught myself saying "shit they're so ugly" or something similar because my eyes are always going to the most complementing feature that someone has based on the face shape. I think it's the personal viewpoint that can limit or make us confident.

My problem with "natural trends" is most people don't have pimples, dark circles, or do procedures to reduce them. In addition, we have created a skincare trends to take care of the skin, which is incredible! But it returns the same cycle you talked about eye shadows. Influencers begin to gain new skin products for testing and use all of them in a single video. it's a cycle that has been around a long time.

I would characterize 2000's fashion as "tomboy glamour." It's sexier and glossier than 90's fashion, but without the hyper-femininity normally associated with those things. It's all about contrasting masculine and feminine, casual and dressy.

I’d say there were multiple categories for 2000s fashion the evening wear of the 2000s were the most feminized I think we have seen since the 80s The asymmetrical tissue hems with rhinestones and satins and silks and pink galore, with strappy heels and lingerie as outerwear type dresses and camisoles were hyper feminized and girlish The overplucked eyebrows blush and glossy lips further enhanced the femininity and youthfulness of the time But I do agree a lot of fashion was sexy tom boy And the other parts of the 2000s to me were beach wear, it seemed like everyone was ready to go to the beach

All I know is that all these new trends are kinda toxic. We most girls don't look super curvy or super skinny that is the reason why we prefer to follow beauty channels like this one. I'm never going to look like Kim Kardashian because it would be too expensive and I don't even like the way she looks, too exaggerated and artificial. But you are a normal woman who teaches normal women how to look as good as you. We want to look our best and we want to be ourselves . Great video!

I think the biggest thing that changed after '90 is that before that time fashion was a statement related to current politics or social rights etc., and now it's just purely looks and aesthetics. I feel like there is not much substance in todays fashion or beauty standards.

It is, but it's not so easy to see, because we are living in this period. Think about the minimalism trend. And many people now feel unsecure and go back to conservative living. Women looking so 'feminine' with this instsgram Make up. And the very curvy figure, wich is in trend relates to this also. The short hair trend is against that.

Highly disagree. Social issues are at the forefront in pop culture. Influence of drag in women's makeup on Instagram. Celebration of different body types from different ethnicities as we become more globalized. Etc. Etc.

Not so sure, you can tell that the ideal is not the white woman’s body only anymore. There is space for different shapes and styles, hair textures etc... The Lady Gagas of the world have brought drag queen make up out of the shadows at the same time where curvier and now plus sizes are getting accepted as worthy to enjoy fashion too. Even make up brands now offer more shades in foundation/eyeshadows when before their lack of range was a clear exclusion of certain skin colors - they arbitrarily decided in some way what was considered beautiful. You add technology to that and now you can see that a wide range of people can now feel free to explore their beauty, play around, present a new type of beauty. You can see the extreme competition white women now feel with that opening of beauty standards; they now do all types of injections in lips and butts to keep up their place at the top of a completely racialized and engineered beauty pyramid. It kinda looks a bit anarchic right now but I suppose it’s the shuffle of reorganization before it calms down with a new order later on.

My theory is that in 2000 clothes started becoming more and more easy to sew, because of the fast fashion industry and chain stores which wanted to just sell something that looks good but in fact is bad quality, there was no attention to following particular style and trend. Just selling something that is easy to produce, pretty comfortable, not complicated(jeans t-shirts) or something that looks interesting but in fact is very tawdry. Maybe it's about the popularity of barbie dolls and going along with that doll style. Also in the 80, 90 there were popular mom jeans so in 2000 people created something opposite- super low waisted jeans.

How would I describe the early 2000s? Caramel hair, especially for the tan girls, large curls, big earrings, golden belts, tropical vibe tops, sexy tighter jeans, pants. Something like glam Maliboo vibes Frozen blue, shimmerry greenish blue shadow with peachy or pink lip. It's like year 2000 The nude frozen beige lip. I love it, by the way. I used to wear it for years in our times In the 2000s, I feel like the bright colors would step ahead. - pink, orange etc. I distinctly remember the purple trend in, like, 2007 For those girls, who, you feel like, stand out nowadays - I feel like they like and follow the 80s, the 90s fashion, the more "natural" periods of it, or with more relaxed-looking representatives of the time with celebrities

Plastic surgery trend is real! I've noticed that it's becoming a big trend, especially in East Asia. Before it wasn't trendy during 90s, but now East Asian girls want to have Vshape small face like Kpop entertainers. That's mostly achievable through plastic surgery. I see most girls nowaday have had some works done to fit in. Otherwise they won't be considered pretty enough. I remember during 90s, girls were confident with their natural mono lids but now most had have double lids surgery for bigger eyes. It's really really sad. I don't blame girls for their insecurity because we all have that. I do blame the beauty industry and some irresponsible influencers who set out the wrong idea of beauty for their own gains.

@Tommy gibstain Also, the way the girl phrased it wasn't very good, but there was actually a recession in the very early 90s before big economic growth. Even if it was a very short recession, grunge fashion started towards the end of it. The trend continued after, and became more popular for aesthetic purposes the following year. She isn't entirely wrong, but you're right that the 90s weren't known for a weak economy.

I was a 90s teen and adored the Supermodels/Drew/Winona/Aaliyah/Bjork but to me 90s seemed more about comfort clothes/Avant Garde DIY fashion/individuality rather than sexy. For example, I was really influenced by 90s Neo Noir films/Erotic Thrillers (like Basic Instinct/Last Seduction/Jade/Single White Female) or 90s French drama films (like Beyond The Clouds, Three Colours Trilogy, The Apartment, The Double Life of Veronique/A Heart in Winter etc) which had more of a modest 40s type aesthetic with dark pantyhose, long elegant trenchcoats, brick red/true red lipstick or no lipstick and minimal makeup/natural beauty, no skin showing but legs with brogues/mid-length heels, cashmere sweaters, dainty jewellery or Japanese avant garde minimalism (Issy Miyake/Junya Wantanabe/Yohji Yamamoto/Tina Chow aesthetic). Nice to show a photo example of FKA Twigs btw. She is so like a 90s girl to me, very Tricky meets Sade meets Bjork. Love her.

I quit wearing makeup and lost weight during a time when I was in a deep depression. I even didn't shower for over a week because I was traumatized and distraught. Standing in line at a store (and feeling incredibly self-conscious) a woman approached me. I was afraid she'd go off on how big of a mess I was, or I had something stuck in my hair. Turns out she was a scout for a (fairly large) modeling agency. I'd been scouted many times before (I'm 5'10" long and slender build) but I did NOT expect that day to be a day I was scouted. A lot of people get model scouted not as much for their beauty, but because they fit some sort of ideal (and because they're tall) which I find interesting. I politely declined the business card. "I'm 30 years old" I said. Having had modeling experience in the past, I knew I was too old to get back into it. The lady was surprised (I look younger with no makeup) and started stumbling over her words a bit. I was like "I get it. I've done this in the past and I know you're looking for younger women. I'm not offended, just don't wanna waste your time". She was relieved that I didn't get pissed off lol. Beauty comes in all shapes and sizes and forms. People are often confused when they see the bedraggled messy-hair wreck of a human get model scouted in front of another girl who is all made up and dressed nicely. The first question they ask is always "how tall are you?" That's just how it is. I do love the movement towards more natural beauty that has not been enhanced with surgical procedures and filters. This is just a message for the people who are beautiful and take care of themselves, only to be passed over by model scouts for the girl with matted hair and ugly, dirty clothes. It's really only the height and body type that matters. The lights are hot and the fast clothing changes are jarring. It kinda sucks tbh. I'm a carpenter and infinitely happier doing that than prancing down a catwalk in painful shoes or posing in an unnatural position under hot lights while my back is killing me. Modeling is overrated as hell.

@@christineguerrero5678 Being scouted depends heavily upon where you live, and is more common and happens more often in larger cities. Modeling starts as a dream for most. Being scouted is extremely validating, not gonna lie about that one.. but modeling itself becomes a nightmare for many. The mixture of toxic industry standards and sheer circumstance creates a perfect climate for deterioration of mental and physical health in many cases; mine included. In my past experience, I encountered a number of really creepy photographers, which trapped me in uncomfortable situations where the power dynamic was severely shifted (out of my favor) by the photographers (mostly older men). The day I posted this, I suppose I was in my feelings remembering shit from the past and how surprisingly vulnerable it made me feel, causing it to be all the more disappointing. Modeling did seem like a fun and exciting opportunity... until reality hit me in the face.

I have never fit in, I don’t fit in and I absolutely don’t want to fit in! Particularly the Instagram standard, yikes!!! No thanks! Funny fact I was a grunge girl in the early 90s. It was a complete act of rebellion against the beauty pageant culture where I am from. I think recently, the subculture phenomena doesn’t exist anymore. Such a fascinating video, you’re amazing as always.

Hypebeasts are somewhat of a subculture. They all seem to listen to the same soundcloud rap and wear the same overhyped streetwear brands like Supreme and embody hyper-commercialism in an (unfortunately) non-ironic way. Albeit, they are a horrendous subculture and one I wish would just go away.

I think nowadays there are just so many smaller subcultures, rather than one solidarity on how to rebel. Probably because they can thrive in their own corner of the Internet. I personally hardly know anyone who follows the "main" beauty standard, just lots of variations of skater/hippie/grunge/vintage/egirl hybrids

there is absolutely a subculture nowadays. i’m fact, there’s a few subcultures going on. art hoes, hype beasts, vintage kids, emos, hipsters, pastel goths, the list goes on. the interesting thing is though that now there seems to be less of a pressure to fit in to one category and more of an emphasis on doing what you like regardless of lablels

I love your videos. There are so many videos of girls saying they regret getting fake breasts because of all the problems they have. And there are so many teenagers getting nose jobs and lip fillers - and their bodies/minds aren't fully developed yet. I had terrible taste as a teenager, but at the time I was completely sure that's what I wanted. I'm so glad I never had the money to do anything that I'd regret. There are also those girls on who try so hard to be different on social media that they ruin their bodies. Like Sara Mcdaniel and her fake eye.

They're wrecked by age 30. Horrible wrecked faces, psychological problems because they used surgery to address normal adolescent awkwardness instead of just rolling with it and growing out of it like normal people. High suicide rates, not suprisingf. People who constantly pick at their faces and bodies with surgeries are highly uncomfortable with their own being and eventually it all falls down. Surgery is the worst thing they can do and is in fact another form of self-harm.

I think now women and girls are _excpected to be their own make up artists and fashion designers rather than just a freedom to be so. There might be a rebellion of absolute minimal or even absurdist aesthetics brewing, like, another tomboy-ish era, but with liberation from taking fashion and make up so seriously: we already see nonsensical graphic logos and text on oversized clothing and strange combinations of proportions in tops and bottoms, hoods, pockets, lacing & zippers in unexpected places/pieces, especially in the youth section in some stores. There also might be a rebellion against the absolute perfect sculpted body type soon, because I think the thicc trend has culminated in recent years into people actually heavily body shaming each other for having the wrong shape of ass. That is definitely going to cause an outbreak sooner or later, because people have a tendency to resist if they can't match expectations. I'm also sensing that subcultures are blending in, that might be a resistance against the very fiery divide between subcultures that has been present for so long. Alternative scenes have mellowed down in their distinctiveness, and 'mainstream' constantly adapts key ingredients from looks considered alternative.

3:41 5:15 To all women : LET'S PROTEST! I think we need to protest to stop this beauty ideal on social media, for example Instagram. I've always saw women getting lip, jaw etc. Fillers or Botox. And they make their eyes look bigger (wearing fake lashes or extensions) , noses straight and high cheek bones with make-up. It's like everyone wants to look like only this typ. When I go out I see little girls with make-up on their faces. And the way they are dressed. When I think about how I was dresses as a 11 year old girl... I know we are women, we want to look beautiful for others and most importantly for ourselves but sometimes it's just too much. (This is my opinion and my intention was not to insult such people.)

I am a person with deformity and i got comments that i look like a mutant and it hurts me when people call mutants normal people without deformities. If they are mutants, then who the heck i am?
