Here's how you can carve a spoon out of wood. This cutlery, made from environmentally friendly natural materials, is convenient for eating and adding various seasonings, preparing drinks, etc. The manufacture of a wooden spoon takes place in several successive stages, each of which is described in detail below. It also tells which tree species are best to use to get a spoon.
What kind of wood should you choose for the spoon?
In practice, a spoon can be made from any hardwood growing in the temperate zone of Eurasia. If you have little experience, then linden is the best choice. Other types of trees are much harder and more difficult to process. As for timber from tropical countries, it can be poisonous.
How to make a wooden spoon?
You can make a spoon in several stages.
First, you need to saw off a large branch for harvesting. The bark is removed from it with a knife.
On the workpiece, you can draw the contours of the future spoon. to make it easier to cut.
One side of the workpiece is made flat, one of its ends is rounded off.
In the round end, a recess is made with a knife for scooping food. The wood around it is leveled with the same knife.
Using a knife, a handle is cut out. If desired, it can be made with a decorative top.
Then the cut out spoon is sequentially processed with sheets of sandpaper from coarse to fine. Processing takes at least 10 minutes.
How to dry a wooden spoon?
If the size of the spoon is small, then it is not necessary to specially create conditions for it to dry. Moreover, it should not be stored in excessively dry conditions, otherwise it will crack.
If you have a large spoon, keep it wrapped in tissue paper and in a plastic bag. The fabric is changed daily. It takes a month and a half maximum to dry a spoon. After that, it is advisable to impregnate the spoon.
How to make natural impregnation?
You can do without impregnation only if you are making a decorative spoon and do not plan to use it for eating. Otherwise impregnation is necessary. Soaking a spoon in linseed oil is best for these purposes. The impregnation is done after the spoon is completely dry.
