Our young Emily Dickenson of our modern times yet again captures the alienation of existence with a sense of extraordinary vulnerability and optimism -- this time, using the metaphor of a blanket as the woven secret of a relationship. Her breaking, vulnerable, wonderful voice is accompanied by a cantata piano, which, I think, she is gorgeously playing. Sublime!

Dax have you ever heard of Osvaldo GoliJov? He and Grace VanderWaal wrote the music for Francis Ford Coppola's movie Megalopolis.

The Vandervault song catalogue names it "Made Of You", with the video of her performance on 23rd October 2023. Interesting fact about Emily Dickinson is she was born on 10 December 1830, just 5 days after her main rival for greatest poetess ever, Christina Rossetti.

To me the 1st 2 stanzas you mentioned appear to be her looking back growing up with her family. They are cherished memories she keeps close to her heart and as a celeb she doesn't speak of them. "It's the only good I can seem to see" life hasn't been too great for Grace since her fame. "You don't know I'm made of you" she is the product of them raising her. Being the youngest you could say Grace's serious side is what she gained from Dave and Olivia and her arty creative side she got and was encouraged on by Tina. Grace loved her family atmosphere and thrived in it and they certainly got her right away. A young Grace saying what she thought and felt with such humour, wit and her singing captured Olivia and Tina attention early. Grace makes a few mentions how she is received by people she feels relaxed around enough to open up and be herself the way she was around her family "I'm too loud and say the wrong things" is one of them. I think I've seen so many hints in Grace's lyrics to see her personality wears people out. Then some time ago there are statements like Clair's where she say you don't know the story of what she went through or something like that. Olivia's latest rant on people wishing they were Grace's friend and how bluntly rude supposed friends were right to Grace's face. The 3rd stanza "Everyone everywhere just seems to be." We have to remember Grace ain't hangin with other celebs she is with ordinary people who party and do ordinary things. Some were students and some were club singers. Some might compare this to Poe hangin with amateur detective novelists. They're all in her pictures for a while then suddenly they're not. "At a different [eyeline] apart from me. But I remember how you use to see." To me it appears she purposely put this out of order. "Every one everywhere..." "But I remember how you use to see..." "At a different [eyelevel]..." To me it reads like "I hung out with ordinary people and I know I'm different from them but I remember they looked down their nose at me." If Grace is intent in being a club singer for the rest of her career then these indeed are the friends you get. I don't think Van Gogh hung out with butchers and tailors. I wonder if Corey Feldman now says "I was an actor." If you think that is controversial try this. What if Grace's career never got going right away after "Just The Beginning" and she stayed in New York because she had to run out of a few rooms because an Exec (the big man told me) wanted her to sit on his lap before he would move forward with her career. Almost 2 years exactly between Just The Beginning and Letters and no album or EP since.

That's an interesting interpretation on Grace's lyrics, Cal. Thank you. The dearth of Grace albums for four years now has been emotionally painful for me. The potential loss of musical genius and expression is almost too much to bear. An analogy might be The Beatles staying together after Rubber Soul but producing no albums from 1966 to 1969 -- going almost dark but tossing out ingenious tidbits occasionally, as Grace does. I was a reporter and editor for newspapers for 13 years and would LOVE to sit down with Grace for a couple of days and find out what the heck has been going on. Truly. Simply baffling and frustrating. How much have we lost to time?

I think the reason grace hasn’t really moved “forward” and is not where she should be by now with her music journey… is her record label. simply put, to them she’s not been a “good investment” because the music industry is a ‘business’ and her music unfortunately doesn’t fit into the “current climate” at the moment so talent such as hers is pushed aside in favour of the money making abundance of cheap produced manufactured repetitive Rubbish that is the music world today maybe in a few years hopefully this will change? and new artist such as her will finally get the recognition they deserve.

@@reflexxtr I liked daX's Beatles comparison and I wrote a 1000 word essay responding to daX and your comment. Feeling better that I got that out I deleted it, not in the mood today for the attacks. I think you're right and also think that her label hoped that the little they did put out on promoting her music was enough because they thought she already had millions of fans that would be looking for her music without any promotions. If you see what happen to Brian Crum you can get why they were sadly mistaken. I spoke to Brian fans off and on for two years after AGT and they still didn't know he had albums out. I think he had an album plus two Christmas albums in that time. Grace's mature fans were paying attention to her after AGT, looking for her music and watching her YT lives every week. Her young fans were big AGT fans who followed lots of big singers and expect Grace's music to drop on their lap just like Taylor's, Melanie's and Ariana's did. To this day teens are saying on Instagram comments "I's that the Ukulele girl?" "I haven't seen her since AGT." I still think it was because they didn't release a few of the Perfectly Imperfect songs as singles through out 2017 leading up to the leases of the JTB songs. But that would mean more money put out for promotions. Hey, I wonder if the Daniel Larson thing would have gotten as big as it is if it was Taylor he was obsessed with.

The only way I see Grace getting the recognition she deserves, is the day she goes on her own. But it would not be the first a genius does not get recognition, but one day someone will see what a special person she was, she is, she will be. Thanks for your views Dax.

'Ive got a secret to keep'. I might also add that the lyrics on 'I've got a secret to keep' are very, very clever... You've become my secret to keep a blanket I carry everywhere with me it's woven from my selective memory it's only the good I can seem to see you don't know how I'm made of you sewn in my skin I'll bear it through and I do everyone everywhere just seems to be a different eye line apart from me oh, oh i remember how you (all) used to be This is just my own personal interpretation of this song daX...She could be singing it about a friend, but with her predilection for double entendre, to ME, makes it seem that she might just be singing this to us hardcore fans. So not only is it very cleverly written, It becomes a heartbreaking self deprecating very intimate and personal statement of a very transcendent paen of oneness with us fans...Incredible! You got the sublime cryptic thing right daX! In spades. You've really parsed out the VERY clever multi-faceted way this song could be interpreted. Her lyrics simply shine here huh? Her innovative introspective writing here is indeed beyond credibility...Oh, and that vulnerability and emotional connection added to the melody and entendred cryptic lyrics makes her damn near incomparable and most def' right on up there with 'The Greats' of all time. I'm sure that Emily Dickensen is looking down with a great big smile on her face...Grace is a National Treasure..Cheers mate.

The double entendre point is quite interesting, Skyman. Grace is so utterly unique that I think she must’ve transported here from Elizabethan England, or the early 1800s romantic era. She reminds me a lot of Wordsworth, who is one of my favorites as well.

@@daxmusix Ummm, so yeaaaah, dax...About those Elizabethian or 'Romantic Eras daX... You are absolutely right on both accounts! Buuuuut, I am actually VERY certain, that in her incarnation after those eras, she was zapped right on up to somewhere really high...................🌛💫✨I mean up there in the sky beyond our sky; from someplace really, REALLY high, lol... Then she had a few cheese samosas, caught the jist of the general, ethereal musical vibe of the place and then was sent back down here to just blow all of our minds away completely, with soooooper-dooooper insane quantities of near transcendent mass songery thingies pal o' mine!🎵🕉😂 🤗 💘
