From a Milwaukeean…don’t reference Jeffrey Dahmer. We know, we’re not exactly proud of it. It’s kinda like bringing up Hitler to a German (obviously not on the same scale) Great video! People usually don’t come here in favor of Chicago so it’s cool to see someone advertise the nice things we have

I’m from a Milwaukee suburb where we pronounce Milwaukee as « Muh-WAH-Kee » and I highly recommend going to other festivals in addition to Summerfest in the summer. Festa Italiana is awesome. Bastille Days is a blast. There’s also Pride Fest, State Fair, etc in addition to all the cultural heritage festivals. I would also tell tourists to know where the sketchy areas are and avoid them at all costs!

As someone who moved here just over three years ago, tourists shouldn't limit themselves to just downtown. Each neighborhood has its own vibes and hidden gems that residents and tourists alike should vist. Also, some of the nearby suburbs have fantastic eats. West Allis has Kegel's and West Allis Cheese & Sausage that are must visits when here. Thank you for highlighting our city!

We love Milwaukee. We stay at the Hotel Phister. One of the oldest hotels and beautiful architecture. Another neat history place behind the Brewers stadium is one of the oldest VA hospital areas. There is a large modern VA but there is this Victorian village behind along with a cemetery. It was one of the first commissioned by Lincoln due to the Civil War and was built in the late 1800’s. Also don’t miss the Wisconsin State Fair in August and get a cream puff.

I'm originally from Milwaukee. You forgot to mention: 1. The "Grand Necklace of Parks", designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, designer of New York's Central Park, includes Lake Park, River Park (now Riverside Park), and West Park (now Washington Park). 2. Historic Lakefront Mansions 3. Wisconsin State Fair 4. Scenic Northern Suburbs-- Thiensville, Cedarburg, Port Washington, etc 5. Lake Geneva (since you mentioned Mars Cheese Castle)

Leon's custard is good, but I like the daily rotation of flavors they offer at Kopp's. Sprecher makes soft drinks AND beer, and they offer tours. I'm surprised you didn't mention the Miller brewery tour; it's interesting to see production on a mass scale. In late June there's the Downer Classic bicycle race through the streets of the Downer Avenue neighborhood on the (north) Eastside. The Wisconsin State Fair takes place in adjacent West Allis in early August. For different eats, try the Serbian food at Three Brothers or the Vietnamese at Hué, both in the Bayview neighborhood (SE side) which has lots of other cool shops and restaurants. Lastly, when a Milwaukee hotel employee asked where I was from, I laughingly said, "Oh, I'm a FIB" (which BTW actually stands for F***ing Illinois B******). He got a little red in the face, laughed, and said, "You're not supposed to know about that." Wisconsinites have a love/hate relationship with Illinoisans. They love the money we spend in their state, but they hate our aggressive driving and attitude. If you remember to dial it down several notches, be "Midwestern nice," and DON'T DISS THE PACKERS you'll be okay.

I was just in Milwaukee a couple months ago so I immediately recognized the pink birdies in the thumbnail and when I realized it was also a Wolter's World video, even better. 😊 You can also go inside the historic City Hall and the Basilica of Saint Josephat huge church room. The most impressive thing for me about the city are the Urban Ecology Centers(3 total) that are community areas that work to preserve the natural environment and also act as a lounge or place to learn and volunteer for anyone who wants to. I also checked out the Gordon Bath House ruins from when German was the most spoken language in the city in the late 1800s. Only the front wall remains as a buffer between the building and the Milwaukee River although the river was quite far away so I'm not sure if it was just low tide, if the river has moved, or the water levels are lower now

For a unique bit of history, don’t forget to visit the St Joan of Arc chapel on the Marquette University campus. The chapel was originally built in France in the early 1400s, and visited by Joan of Arc in 1429. The chapel was abandoned after the French Revolution, and sort of rediscovered in the early 1900s. The chapel was originally reconstructed in New York before being gifted to the university in the 1960s.

Be sure to visit the Milwaukee Public Museum and check out "Streets of Old Milwaukee" exhibit in the next year or two if you can! The museum is moving to a brand-new building in 2026 and won't be taking a number of its classic and iconic exhibits with them because they're literally built *into* the old building itself, and the Streets of Old Milwaukee is one of them, unfortunately. It's been the most popular part of the whole museum since it first opened back in the 1960s and everyone is bummed it won't be making the transition to the new location. So go and see it while you still can!

We went inside thinking it would be heated. It was not! What was heated was the restaurant inside, Fridays I believe? It was zero outside and you go into some doors and you don't expect it to be zero inside! They were apparently exposing that field to all the natural elements, year-round. We found a warm place but it was about a hundred more feet farther than we thought it would be.

Visited there from Atlanta when our daughter was working on a Masters at UWM - an excellent school! The best breakfast I've ever had in the entire world was at the Pfizer Hotel. Also, Milwaukee (the most segregated city in the USA) has a world class symphony and excellent youth arts programs. I loved visiting there - and the people were mid-western kind.

So why did you have to suddenly throw in Milwaukee being the most “segregated “city in the US seems a bit odd that you would just randomly put that in there and yes, some cities are primarily white Atlanta primarily black is that considered segregation?

I think it’s okay to tell them you’re from Illinois. They won’t like that you’re from there but I don’t think I’ve heard of someone stopping the conversation once they heard you’re from Illinois. I do kind of respect it though

I drive up from Chicago at least twice a month for the last 4 years. I have never had a weird look being from here. A large group of the city is actually from Chicago.

You're always welcome in Wisconsin, just keep spending that money. That whole Illinois thing, that applies here in Green Bay as well. I'm all too familiar with FIBs, I've always heard more vulgar words than you used here.

You're not kidding about the parking rates...currently live in the Madison area and visit Milwaukee often (friend and wife live downtown) and I can park in a city ramp downtown overnight for less than it costs for a few hours in downtown Madison...it's insane. And yeah, it's not our fault we hate Illinois...they did this to themselves 🤣

If you're coming up from Chicago, don't forget that Amtrak's Hiawatha trains are quick and convenient. You don't have to put up with that horrid traffic in Chicagoland. My husband and I were visiting friends in Chicago and we used the Hiawatha for a day trip to Milwaukee.
